Raiders Press Release:

RAIDERS’ HEYWARD-BEY PREPARES FOR PRODUCTIVE 2010 SEASON

Raiders Owner Al Davis has always said that the Raiders have had the greatest players, greatest coaches, played in the greatest games and participated in the greatest plays in the history of professional football. The Raiders have been dominant in terms of winning. The greatest wide receivers in professional football have passed through the portals of the Oakland Raiders or have been coached by Davis.

Lance Alworth Willie Gault
Art Powell Andre Rison
Warren Wells Bob Chandler
Fred Biletnikoff Jerry Rice
Cliff Branch Tim Brown
James Lofton Randy Moss

Now Darrius Heyward-Bey, the Raiders’ top pick in the 2009 NFL Draft, is prepping to join that select group. Heyward-Bey has enjoyed a workmanlike offseason where he has put in time and energy to prepare for his second NFL campaign, when many of those whose names mentioned blossomed in professional football competition.

“I’m just working on my game, using this opportunity to get better, to work with my quarterbacks and my teammates,” said Heyward-Bey following a recent OTA session. “Just going out, just playing my game. That’s all I’m doing right now. And I’m using each practice to reach my goals.”

The list of wide receivers should make any pundit or so-called expert think twice before putting negativity on Heyward-Bey. No one has come close to the excellence at wide receivers that have worn the Silver and Black. These performers have been the greatest players who have ever played the game.

Really?  Really?  I don't even know what to say about this - I can hardly type I'm laughing so hard.  WOW!  I hope Al Davis never dies.

He may well have a stellar career as a tRaider...

Year one will be ear marked as failure though and in the BlackHole corporation that has me tickled to death…Can’t wait for Bey and Champ to compete.

by bfree2bronc on Jun 13, 2010 3:29 PM MDT reply actions

Wait, Champ covers the #1 receiver, right? So, he’ll never line up against Bey… or am I missing something? :)

Fix the line, Moreno will be fine.

by aLuffabo on Jun 13, 2010 11:47 PM MDT up reply actions

I definitely agree with this press release. I am sure that both Randy Moss and Jerry Rice will go into the Hall of Fame as Raiders…

by DoubleJay on Jun 13, 2010 3:36 PM MDT reply actions

No doubt. They definitely enjoyed the prime of their careers in silver and black.

Fix the line, Moreno will be fine.

Louis Murphy makes Bey look like a middle schooler

small fast guys in the NFL aren’t ever going to become any one of those guys on that list. HONESTLY, JERRY RICE? RANDY MOSS? Oh ya you betcha those guys were definitely raised and polished into elite receivers in the silver and black??? WTFMFWTFAYT.

He’s bound to trip over a rainbow and find the gold sooner or later, I know it’s the offseason and it is “happy our team is going to be 16-0” time for every team but come on how can you look at past production and claim that because at some point those guys were Raiders ALL people who play for this team will be and are the best ever…

Oh well we enjoy making fun of the Raiders and this is just fuel for our funnies.

by JALefor on Jun 13, 2010 3:52 PM MDT reply actions

Willie Gault is a stretch

but Lance Alworth is an outright lie. The Raiders drafted Bambi then traded his rights to San Diego. At no time was he ever a member of the Raiders.

by SlowWhiteGuy on Jun 13, 2010 4:54 PM MDT reply actions

NO KIDDING! alworth?!!! what a load.

“passed through the portals” is about right. there’s only three guys on that list that have any claim as being decent RAIDER receivers, and that’s being generous with trade demands and buttering up one’s entire body with tree sap.

leave it to al to set the B.S. bar beyond reach.

by oxmouth on Jun 13, 2010 10:39 PM MDT up reply actions

In no way shape or form am I defending this article

but it does reference that these receivers were either on the Raiders or coached by Darth Davis. He was a WR coach at SD…

by JALefor on Jun 14, 2010 10:02 AM MDT up reply actions

Wasn't Al Davis still human when those other receivers played in the Black Hole?

This is a joke. It reminds me of the time, last year, when they asked that John Gruden not be allowed to broadcast games in Oakland becuase he said they should “blow up the building and start all over”. It’s just juvenille PR. It’s laughable.

Where’s the quotes of teamates raving about DHB? Where’s the highlight reel? Where’s the Cable saying DHB is kicking butt out there? I was talking to a Raiders fan about DHB a couple weeks back. He kept pulling DHB’s name like a gun, as in the smoking gun, a reason why they’ll be better this year. I asked him multiple times if there were great things coming out of camp, if he’s making great catches, etc.. or if it’s just assumed that he’ll be better in year two. I never once got an answer. Not one quote of anyone raving about the guy.

Anybody heard this guy is doing great?

November, gentlemen. We go again to their house and we make it OUR MF house!! We take our Crown from those punks, not from around those punks! We take it in November and we protect it in January. Two wins. That's it. Take it!!!

Maybe

But I heard rave reviews about how much Jamarcus had slimmed down and rededicated himself to the game and how he was throwing really well. I think it was from Porkchop.

Two weeks later he was cut.

We need a Frank Schwab to follow on Twitter for the Raiders. No doubt that Frankie would be telling us how many catches DHB dropped each day.

It takes neither courage nor intelligence to cheer for a team only when that team wins. The true test of a fan's mettle is the same as it is for a player: Were you there when you were needed?

Jerry McDonald is a Raiders beat writer and did a fine job of that last year and this year. Only dropped like 3 or 4 in all of them so far.

Sometimes I wonder what I would do in Als shoes

Lets say you own a NFL team, you are probably the only owner not a billionaire, you actually own the team cause you love the game. Your beloved wife and only real friend died awhile back, and your son is a total douche. Would you actually hire a GM and wear a suit and tie, ≈ sitting in the background. I know I wouldnt I would be making the freakin draft picks, rocking me teams sweat pants, signing checks, giving propaganda err press statements. I would even tell the coach what defense to run, shet it would be like playing Madden for real. In short I would probably become Al Davis AKA the crip keeper

okay maybe, but

lose the “dapper doo” hair grease, get you a gold grill (or teeth whitener—your choice), and get rid of the overhead projector press conferences. maybe have some hot ladies on both arms at all times, get some custom made ray-bans to replace the blublockers—did i mention teeth whitener?—oh yeah, and then buy a couple silver shirts to alternate with the black ones, move off the dockers pants and smoke a lot of cubans. finally, hire good coaches and then cure myself of the “need to draft speed” fetish. not necessarily in any order.

anyway, that’s where i’d start.

i agree with the rest, u never know heyward bey could get good.

by raiderfan4life on Jun 14, 2010 12:55 PM MDT up reply actions

anyone could get good!

But I think what we were poking fun of is whoever wrote the article is claiming that these were great receivers due to Oakland’s coaching. In most cases, receivers who were great at one time, have gone to Oakland for the big money, but they no longer put up the numbers which made them great to begin with.

A lot of the time, we see articles that have logic put into the article that no one on the outside looking in understands. Raidernation, in this case will support the ideas, however. It just doesn’t make any sense is all. Much like Al =)

I laughed just as hard as you Denver fans. I think DHB is making great strides, definitely better than he was last year. Not that that is hard task or anything, but he’s actually looking like a true #1 receiver.

I was ready to declare Murphy and Schilens the starters but DHB might be earning his spot as a starter.

that the raiders should give up on football and join the WWE. This kind of stuff is the norm there.
