Broncos Sign OL Chris Kuper To 6-Year Contract
The Denver Broncos on Friday signed offensive lineman Chris Kuper to a new six-year contract, it was announced. As per club policy, financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.
"We are extremely excited about the extension of Chris Kuper's contract and the fact that he will be a Bronco for a long time," Broncos Head Coach Josh McDaniels said. "He exemplifies the qualities that we look for in our players both on and off the field. We look forward to his continued leadership and toughness in our efforts to build a championship caliber team."
"The fact that the Broncos are putting this much trust in me is an incredible feeling," Kuper said. "It is a dream come true. I'd like to thank Mr. Bowlen, Coach McDaniels and Brian Xanders for getting this deal done. This is where I wanted to be because I feel like this team is headed in the right direction, and my family is excited that we can stay here and be a part of it. I really hope that at some point I can say that I finished my career as a Bronco and won a couple of Super Bowls here, too."
Kuper (6-foot-4, 303 pounds) is entering his fifth NFL season and has played 48 career games (42 starts) for the Broncos since they selected him in the fifth round (161st overall) of the 2006 NFL Draft from the University of North Dakota.
He started 15 games for the Broncos at right guard in 2009 after opening all 16 games for Denver at that position in 2008. That year, he was the only 16-game starting guard in the NFL to not allow a sack according to Stats Inc. and helped the Broncos set a franchise record for fewest sacks allowed (12) in a season.
A two-time All-American at North Dakota, Kuper started the Broncos' final 11 games at left guard in 2007 after seeing action for the club on special teams as a rookie in 2006.

Wow, we are busy today.
If Taylor Swift were to try and tackle me, I'd let her.

yeah, LOTS of activity.
When things slow down in a week or two, we are going to have a ball digesting and analyzing these moves.
So much for the belief that he was the weak link on the line
Congratulations to a guy who looks like he works his tail end off every game. I’m glad to have that slot locked up. Here’s Clady’s contract:
7/25/2008: Signed a six-year, $14.75 million contract. The deal includes $11.415 million guaranteed. Another $2.55 million is available through incentives. 2009: $2,141,250, 2010: $2,569,500, 2011: $2,997,750, 2012: $1.994 million (Voidable Year), 2013: Free Agent
Ryan Harris is in the last year of his contract – I’ll be surprised if we get near the end of the season without an extension for him. Nice to get the line set for a long time to come. Now for center and LG!

I agree with you Doc
Harris will need dealt with later in the season; I’d be surprised if he wasn’t (barring injury).
And yes, Kuper was underrated. Standing next to the Weigmann, I think, is what got people thinking along those lines. I’ve always supported him, keeping him, and resigning him. It’s a good day.
November, gentlemen. We go again to their house and we make it OUR MF house!! We take our Crown from those punks, not from around those punks! We take it in November and we protect it in January. Two wins. That's it. Take it!!!
same as Bannan and Moreno
Xanders likes to wield the voidable year, I like that.
Assuming no voids, that means a RB, OL and DL are currently scheduled to be replaced on the same schedule. I haven’t charted it out, but that clearly fits into a measured pacing, which I like to see as well. Contract design as a tool to help end around certain detrimental effects that come from (in our case neccessary and somewhat unavoidable due to the wholesale purge we endured after 08) position flooding.

I've always said
When all the talk was about RFA’s for cheap, I often opined that all it would take is for a brave club (like Denver) to sort of create the business model for how to deal with these RFA’s – that we didn’t just get them on the ultra-cheap for a year, but rather that the tender just bought time to get a deal done, that it’s not at all uncommon for a player to be extended in his final year.
I’m happy. I’m happy that McX is now showing that they will take care of the players that take care of them. I expected Doom to be first, but Kuper is a great start. Congrats to him and to us.

Doom derserves it.
But if I interpreted things correctly off of a news snippet, even P Manning is not signed at this moment. Just get ’er done, just get ’er done.
Well and you nailed it
We’re probably working on a few guys, just haven’t heard it, just like we hadn’t heard about Kuper until it was done

Lock up Dumervil?? Why? What did he do?
JUST KIDDING!! I totally agree… get the deal DONE :)

Awesome!
So much for the people saying he wasn’t long for the team.

This is a great move!
As long as we get Harris an extension, our o-line should be set for years.

Love it
This is going to be a tight knit line if we can just cement it with a strong center.
I like Josh. But I need Ws.
I am glad they got this done. I felt that they really wanted him here considering they put a 1st round tender on the guy
Now I hope they make Doom a happy man and then they can work on Harris during the season (pending he stays healthy).
Good deal
Six-years $29 million contract. The deal contains $15 million guaranteed. 2010-2015: Under Contract, 2016: Free Agent

Wow, that's a lot of money for a guard !
Almost $5M per year is a lot.
Doom will be signed,

Great
We need to trust management on our other FRAs. If they do not get long term deals this year, that most likely means they are asking for too much money – so be it. Also for some, Orton(?), management may want to see how well they play for at least part of this year before making a long term commitment.
Getting Kuper inked is great – stability in our O line for a fair compensation for both parties!
This is awesome
Stability and continuity is key to success of the o-line. Now, we just need some of the new guys to pan out (Walton and Beadles perhaps?) and both Harris and Clady to return to/maintain their health and we could be set for years along the line. Very good news. I expect (okay, I hope) to see Doom extended before training camp.

Kuper deserved this kind of contract.
IMO this shows the importance McX places on the OL; building it and keeping it intact.
The Rams years ago had an OL that had played together for something like 8-10 years. I may be wrong about that – it is hard to believe. They were good. A solid foundation for the team to build on.
I was at a friends house when this story broke
and I couldn’t wait to get home to post on here. I love this. With all the talk about Doom, Kuper was kind of an after thought. Not anymore. 6 year, 29 million. McD just showed that he is not afraid to throw big money. Very, Very happy about this news.

Wonder what Alfred Williams will say now about McX not “taking care of the players”.
I hate the Red Wings.
Who the heck is Alfred Williams?
Fix the line, Moreno will be fine.

Alfred Williams is a Denver local sports radio host.
He is kinda the Bill Williamson of the radio. I ignore him whenever possible.
Contract details

It’s from an anonymous source, but I tend to trust the NFP guys.
It looks like we signed Kuper to a 6-year $29 million contract with $13 million in guaranteed money.
I like the numbers on the deal. It seems like the right amount for what he brings to the team without going overboard.
Fix the line, Moreno will be fine.
That's almost $5M/yr
Seems a little high to me, but hey, what do I know =) Glad he’s locked for six.

Well, it’s almost $5 million a year if the contract is fully realized. Only $13 million is guaranteed. If he did nothing to earn more than the guaranteed amount, it’s a little over $2 million/year. I wish we knew the full details, I would love to look at a full contract.
I wonder if anyone on here knows what where he will likely end up making per year.
Either way, if he plays up to the level we know he is capable of, I’d be more than happy to pay him $5 million/year.
Fix the line, Moreno will be fine.
