Since then, Knowshon has become an integral part of the Denver Broncos offense. He will be the main running back for our team for hopefully a long time. Because of that, we need to really figure out how good Moreno is. I personally think he is the stud that we watched dominate the SEC in Georgia.
Last year, Moreno wasn't overly impressive, with his 3.8 average, and his longest rush being 36 yards. Also, he never reached 100 rushing yards in a game. It seems to me he really hit a rookie wall. The last couple of months, he really couldn't produce. He did pretty bad the last part of the season, but so did the entire Bronco team. Where I think we saw the true Moreno was in the time before he hit that wall. Especially in the month of November, where he had a 5.0 average with 2 TDs.
Very seldom did Moreno break a huge run. Like I said, his longest was only 36 yards. He was tied for 45th in the league in that category. That 36 yard rush was one of only TWO rushes over 20 yards for Moreno. That is really unimpressive. Despite all of that, I still think Moreno will have a great season this year. It has been said many times that Moreno has been much much more decisive in his running in mini camp. I know that this mini camp isn't always a great indicator of how well someone will do, but I think in Moreno's case it is. I think he was often held back last year because he had to think before he acted. I believe this is going to change this year, and Moreno can simply use his instincts. Instincts which got him 2,736 yards on 498 carries (5.5 average) and 30 TDs in his two years at Georgia. He also had no shortage of long runs as a Bulldog.
So I'll ask you guys (and girls), how will Moreno do in 2010 and beyond? Will he continue to run like last year? Or is he on his way to becoming a superstar? I'm thinking closer to the latter.
