Paige: Is Tebow Time now for Broncos? - The Denver Post
Coach McDaniels confronts a dilemma with which Prince Hamlet would empathize — whether 'tis nobler to suffer the slings and arrows of controversy in high risk, high reward or failure, or take a conservative arm against a sea of troubles. Tonight, the Saints and Patriots play in Gillette Stadium in the preseason opener for both clubs, but just as we saw on Sunday during the Hall of Fame game in Canton, the starters will see limited work. Have we ever found out what happened to Decker or Thomas? How long will each be out?
How long with Kuper be out?
Denver: 32-32 until we're not.
What I heard
Thomas MRI was negative. Decker showed that he reaggravated a high ankle sprain. Thats all I know
"Ben Roethlisburger is screwed up, he uses bathrooms for sex and golf courses for bathrooms." Unknown
I HEARD
Gaffney, and D J Williams left the field yesterday hurt also, anybody know anything?
D.J.
Has been nursing some kind of injury for awhile now. Broncos aren’t saying what it is. He was out yesterday in the “do not touch” jersey, but left the field early…

WHAT ABOUT
Gaffney, according to BRONCOTALK: “Jabar Gaffney also left practice with an unspecified injury.”
pulled right hamstring is what the Post is saying
Inside linebacker D.J. Williams started the morning practice wearing an orange “no contact” jersey because of an undisclosed injury. He left the field limping with what appeared to be a pulled right hamstring and didn’t participate in the evening practice.
I hope someone can do a post that relays the injury status of all our players. That is quite a task right about now.
Denver: 32-32 until we're not.
Kuper
Has an ankle injury.
"Ben Roethlisburger is screwed up, he uses bathrooms for sex and golf courses for bathrooms." Unknown
From DB.com
D.J. Williams, Jamal Williams, Daniel Graham, Jabar Gaffney and Demaryius Thomas sat out the afternoon session. They all appeared to be headed to the weight room for a workout along with Knowshon Moreno and Correll Buckhalter.
Notice they don’t mention Doom or Decker

And for those of you that think one can’t call a bust after just one season, I give you Andre Smith of the Cincinnati Bungles.
Denver: 32-32 until we're not.
Certainly not hearing good things about Phonz right now
Seems like he is pretty low on the depth chart by reading todays articles.

He’s had a few picks in TC to go with getting burnt several times.
The dude is a medicore talent we WAY overdrafted. But he does seems to care (try) enough to carve out an NFL career of some sort.
I can’t wait to see our young CBs play in the preseason games. Sounds like Cox is pretty awesome so that will take off a lot of the sting if Phonz continues to stink.
Denver: 32-32 until we're not.
+1
I haven’t been hearing good things about Smith. Starting to side with McGeorge on this one…the kid is starting to look like a poor pick. I hope he shows us otherwise in the preseason games.

…it’s mental now. He flashes — but not like last training camp. This according to Alfred Williams, who said Smith had a great camp last year.
You can't.

If he’s still playing that way his SECOND year. THEN maybe you can pick a different word.

Andre Smith missed the first part of training camp and then the first preseason game last year because he wouldn't sign his contract.
Then, when he did sign his contract, he injured his foot 3 practices later. I watched that Cincinnati hard knocks series about 2 days ago from my DVR.
You can’t call him a bust, yet…

McDaniels feels more comfortable with Kyle Orton now. After Orton’s mediocre season in 2009, the Broncos brought in Brady Quinn for the specific purpose of challenging Orton for the starting job in Orton’s final season in Denver.
Orton responded initially by not working out with his receivers, absorbing the playbook and showing lackluster interest early in the offseason training activities. When the Broncos became enthralled with, and then drafted, Tebow, Orton became more motivated to win back his job and earn a long-term contract from some franchise.
Is that really true?
I think the contract issue had more to do with that..
I think Orton, like many RFA’s, were trying to decide how they were going to handle it. Once Orton decided he was going to sign the tender and get to work, he did…

Wow, there's a lot of assumptions and stretches in that
That first paragraph could be more accurately rewritten to say:
McD has full confidence in Kyle Orton right now. After Orton had a career year in 2009, the Broncos brought in Brady Quinn for the specific purpose of replacing Chris Simms as Orton’s backup. With Orton playing on a tender, it will be interesting to see if this is his final season in Denver or if he plays well enough to be given an extention and compete for the starting job next year as well.
Concerning the second paragraph, I agree with John. Orton was assessing how to handle the “non-volutary workouts” since he was one of the players caught up in the final league year RFA rules. Orton’s had to compete from day one for his job in this league and he knows it’s no different now. I highly doubt us trading for Quinn got his panties in a bunch and then the drafting of Tebow brought him out of his “lacluster interest” and pushed him to try to win back his job.
Woody should be working for some politician with those story spinning abilities.
"He uses statistics as a drunken man uses lamp-posts... for support rather than illumination."
- Andrew Lang (1844-1912)
Orton was at the players reps meetings in early March once that was over he returned and signed his tender. This was way before we got Tebow
Is Woody telling us that we started our offseason program before the SB was over in early Feb because if not there is an interview from McDaniels in mid February where talks about Orton.
We traded for Quinn in mid March while Orton was at the players rep meetings and he was interviewed at the meetings and said point blank he was not holding out and would return as soon as the meetings were over and he had been in contact with the coach and he knew this . Orton returned within a week and signed his tender .
Woody really is making things up now . Orton probably refused an interview with him or something and who can blame him after the smear campaign that Woodys been on .
Since this is the first whiff of anything like this,
I think Woody was carrying on the Shakespeare drama theme. Sounds like his interpretation, not fact based.
I think Paige is stirring the pot here
Merely asking whether or not to start Tebow is a joke. He’s not ready and by all reports is far behind Orton and Quinn. Yes he’s a winner, but if you’re going to use that criteria, Orton is also a winner. Orton is a winner in the NFL. If we’re not doing well by week 6, articles like this are going to create demands from restless fans to start an unready Tebow. And when he doesn’t start, it will foster further disdain for McD.

Woody needs to spend less time trying to be cute and more time trying to be relevant. Save the cheese for your diary Woods. We want to hear about sports.
Start Tebow? That isn’t a question at all. It ain’t happening unless Orton and Quinn both fall into a well.

mcD stirred his own pot plenty on this one.
not even going back to cutler, he and xanders chose not to extend orton’s contract, then brought in brady quinn and then took a QB in the first round who is still considered by most to be a reach. it isn’t exactly taking the low profile route. if we’re not doing well by week 6, mcD will probably already be considering the switch, with or without fans and media breathing down his neck.
more power to mcD on his bold moves and i’m rooting for him, but there should be unrest and questions if things aren’t going well at week 6.
I think he actually does want strong competition at every postion on this team
All coaches say that, but what most of them really mean is strong competition at each position except QB as most coaches seem to be wary of creating a QB controversy. I don’t think McD is wary of that at all. He knows the personalities of his 3 QB’s and isn’t concerned about a controversy. He believes that more competition among the players equals more improvement of those players.
We’re also much deeper now with Orton, Quinn, & Tebow >>>>>>>>>>Orton, Simms, & Brandstater. Roster depth has been a focus at all of the positions since McD has arrived and I’m not surprised that QB was on his list in that as well.
McD won’t start Tebow until Tebow is ready. Not a moment before then. No matter what our record is and no matter what the media and fans are saying.

competition's a great idea
but simms and brandstater were mcD’s players too.
competition wasn’t really my point though. i’m just saying that if things go badly, mcD will probably have earned the reviews he gets from the fans and media. fans and media aren’t always on the wrong side of things.
as far as not bringing in tebow until he’s ready, well, kind of. if the broncos find their way out of the competition early on, then there’s not a much better way to get a rookie playing experience than to have him play an extended preseason. that would be a monolithic disaster though, and i don’t see it happening.
also, if the broncs do go the orton, c_style route, i think it would be a bad sign if you’re seeing a bunch of p.t. …. but then, i’ve never seen you play QB… :-)
Don't worry
I’ve been taking lots of mental reps.
