When I arrived at Redskins Park last Thursday, I expected all the players to be talking about Mike Shanahan. Some folks already think Shanahan could succeed his father in Washington, but I'd like to see the offense play a couple games before jumping on that bandwagon.

thanks for the tracks!

nice to see Oakland look inept on O =)

happy friday the 13th to everyone

Thanks, John

I am excited to see the the new kids in action on Sunday. Two rookies starting on the Interior OL? I’m sure it’s been done, but it doesn’t seem too likely. Alex mack sat a few games last year. If Walton is in there from day one, it means that either the position is very thin, or he’s one of the most polished college centers in a long time. The answer is probably #1.

by Chibronx on Aug 13, 2010 8:18 AM MDT reply actions

Walton has taken all of the first team snaps in camp, if they put someone else in there I would be really surprised.

by Todd Jewell on Aug 13, 2010 8:22 AM MDT up reply actions

I fully expect him to be the starter. The question is, what does it mean? Center has such a steep learning curve that a team has to be pretty thin to throw a rookie in from Day 1. He was the Center I wanted the most in the draft, and I’m thrilled with the pick. I’m just bracing myself for a rough September.

by Chibronx on Aug 13, 2010 9:03 AM MDT up reply actions

Perspective

I think it at least means he’s better or on par with Hochstein. I’d feel a little uncomfortable knowing he was going to start, but having Walton there has me excited due to upside/potential. Yeah, I’m sure he’ll play like a rookie at times, but I think he has a shot at being a legit starter by the end of the first month or so.

by BroncosBassist on Aug 13, 2010 9:33 AM MDT up reply actions

I think it at least means he’s better or on par with Hochstein.

Yeah, and I’m at least on part to a 16-year-old on Twitter when it comes to writing. Comparing the guy to Hochstein is setting a very, very low bar.

You raise an interesting question. Alex Mack sat early last year, then was very good. Being thrown in early probably won’t hurt his development. Maybe it just means worse hiccups.

by Chibronx on Aug 13, 2010 11:44 AM MDT up reply actions

Touche

But I really meant that he’s taking reps from someone who’s actually logged time at the position in a real game (I think… has he actually played C in a game?). There are probably better options in the league, but he’s got a chance to really grow into something good for us.

by BroncosBassist on Aug 13, 2010 1:46 PM MDT up reply actions

That Oakland team sure looks like an offensive juggernaut. I can see why everyone thinks Jason Campbell is the 2nd coming of Joe Montana now that he is out of Washington. I need to revise my expectations for their season from 3-13 to 4-12.

Their 4th string is pretty tough though.

Denver: 32-32 until we're not.

by McGeorge on Aug 13, 2010 8:32 AM MDT reply actions

Lamarr Houston appears to be a good pick for them though … 2 sacks in the first quarter isn’t shabby. I don’t know who he was going against though, Dallas’s line looked shaky last week.

by Todd Jewell on Aug 13, 2010 8:34 AM MDT up reply actions

The D has some nice players, but that O really sucks. They have wasted Top 10 picks on JaBust Russell, Bust DMC and Bust Bey Bey…

Denver: 32-32 until we're not.

by McGeorge on Aug 13, 2010 9:49 AM MDT up reply actions

LOL!

I think you meant the 2nd coming of Jim Plunkett. At least according to Al Davis.

by BroncoTwins on Aug 13, 2010 8:53 AM MDT up reply actions

I think he looks like the 2nd coming of Charlie Frye.

Denver: 32-32 until we're not.

Wait a minute

I thought we were the ones expected to go 4-12….Aren’t the experts saying Oakland will be better than us? I mean McG, they’re experts. Experts.

Excuse me, do these effectively hide my thunder?

by T.Dot_Bronco on Aug 13, 2010 9:12 AM MDT up reply actions

Peter King said KC would be 9-7 last season.

The Raiders will have a hard time reaching 4 wins if they continue to score 10 pts per game.

They do have some nice players on D, but that offense is just horrible and so is the coaching.

Denver: 32-32 until we're not.

by McGeorge on Aug 13, 2010 9:25 AM MDT up reply actions

Some people are actually picking Oakland to win the division

I still can’t fathom how Jason Campbell and Rolando McClain get them up to 9-7 or 10-6.

by black_knight101 on Aug 13, 2010 10:01 AM MDT up reply actions

I can’t fathom how Jason Campbell suddenly became a great NFL QB in the eyes of some many once he was traded to Oakland.

Denver: 32-32 until we're not.

by McGeorge on Aug 13, 2010 10:31 AM MDT up reply actions

Cutler was coming off 4,500 yards and a Pro Bowl birth. Plus he had some monster games on prime time TV (Raiders, Browns, Jets).

Campbell has never played a great season or a memorable one. He is a less achomplished Kyle Orton.

Denver: 32-32 until we're not.

by McGeorge on Aug 13, 2010 10:49 AM MDT up reply actions

you mean for all of those 0 winning seasons?

by Todd Jewell on Aug 13, 2010 11:11 AM MDT up reply actions

winning is more about team.

I just mean that Campbell himself never played well in Washington. He was never an impact QB. His best years have been average…

Denver: 32-32 until we're not.

by McGeorge on Aug 13, 2010 12:53 PM MDT up reply actions

I've always though Jason Campbell had the tools...

He was just in a horrible situation in Washington…their O-line sucked big time. Unfortunately for Campbell he’s not in a much better situation with the faders.

It was the upgrade

From Jamarcus to Campbell.

I mean it is a huge upgrade to be fair.

Why does Madden suck at ranking the Broncos so much?

by ChristianL on Aug 13, 2010 4:22 PM MDT up reply actions

I’m an upgrade from JaMarcus. So are you…

Cable was supposedly very unhappy

…that the team let go of Justin Fargus.

That makes me smile.

Yes...

I'm not sure how you got such a favorable impression of Campbell?

All I saw was 3 and outs against the Dallas D in the first quarter. Ahhh unless that was veiled sarcasm, in which cse I totally agree!

lol, couldn't agree more.

3.8 yards per completion. That sure sounds like a vertical attack to me…

All hail McGeorge

For one, he had the funniest line on MHR for the past month with “did he punch anyone over this matter?”

He also voiced what I have been screaming at my car radio every morning listening to sports radio jockeys – “How the heck does Jason Campbell go from being the problem in DC to the solution in OAK?”

I tell Raider fans: if Campbell was worth a darn, why did Shanny – a QB guru – let him go?

by Gristle McThornbody on Aug 13, 2010 12:05 PM MDT up reply actions

Because Shanny knows his O-line is still going to suck for a year or two

McNabb = great scrambler. Campbell = not

Yes and no.

If Campbell were a legitimate QB in Shanny’s eyes he would still be with them. Bottom line. Poor O Line or not.

When you get a guy like REX GROSSMAN to be your backup

it can’t say anything good about Jason Campbell.

Marcus Thomas to new England for a 3rd?

We’d be lucky to get a 5th for Thomas and that’s just the truth. Anquan Boldin got traded for a 3rd.

by Iwasfn47 on Aug 13, 2010 7:30 PM MDT up reply actions

Depends

A lot on how desperate a team is. remember Shanny fleeced Seattle for a 5th for that worthless receiver.

Denver: 32-32 until we're not.

by McGeorge on Aug 13, 2010 10:08 PM MDT up reply actions

Really?

Last year in the 5th we took Kenny McKinley with a pick from Cleveland. In the 6th we took Tom with a pick from Detroit. Wouldn’t say it was a waste either rather than a lost bet. We gambled on him, and lost.

We also happened to have come across 2 much better QB’s since than and that couldn’t have been anticipated when we drafted him. I’ll take it considering maybe 2-3 guys in the whole round drafted after TB contributed at all last year.
