I’m glad to have Krieger point out the things I tend to miss when he astutely notes that Orton is ahead of the other two in the QB race. I didn’t pick that up but I don’t have a trained eye like his.
Good game for the Broncos since our 1st string whipped up on Cincy’s 1st and it was their 2nd game…. I don’t think anyone suffered a injury that will require much time off.
The guys that played in the 3rd and 4th quarters better do a lot of running in practice because they were loafing on the field. What a sorry lack of effort from our backups. Denver is not going to keep 80 guys on the active roster so you’d think these guys might actually want to try to win jobs instead of arm tackling and jogging out their routes.
Denver: 32-32 until we're not.
I find it thard to believe they weren't trying
given how badly they want to be on the team. Maybe they were so tentative and hesitant (i.e. slow at reading and reacting) that it looked like they weren’t trying.
"Surprised to see you, Captain, though pleased." — from Star Trek episode Space Seed.
Some good stuff from some of the d-line backups
Like the depth there.
I really liked the depth at all LB spots – Atkins, Kirlew and Alexander all flahed often.
Was VERY disappointed with Phonz, Cox and Jones. They sucked and played little effort or concentration.
Denver: 32-32 until we're not.
To follow-up...
I’m going to defer assessment on the DBs. Champ says Cox can play. That’s quite an endorsement.
Champ also said
that Hamza Abdullah could play.
The early bird may get the worm, but the second mouse gets the cheese in the trap.
Champ said Cox could play in training camp.
some guys just can’t play well in the games.
hopefully Cox can improve on his training camp success…somebody needs to, out of Cox, Smith, and Jones.

Pathetic comes to mind
ST coverage too. But I think some of this should be laid at the feet of the DC. As a coach, you’ve got to motivate the troops. Sure, they’re professionals and you’d think they would fight like hell for their roster spot, but the coach needs to instill that ‘hell bent for leather’ mentality, and it was woefully missing. And good morning Goody, hope you’re in shape, because any OC in their right mind will attack your side, not the Champ’s.

Too bad about the Texans rookie RB – I was hoping the Texans could finally overcome the Colts, but this won’t help. And too bad about Tory Holt – I always liked his game.
The early bird may get the worm, but the second mouse gets the cheese in the trap.
orton looked amazing out there last night. the guy was in full attack mode, getting it done
quinn probably just played himself into the number 3 QB spot. unless we see significant improvement soon, anyway
tebow looked great for where he is at right now. he should probably be number 2 QB, with a lot of learning still yet to do. but he was impressive
Replay?
Does anyone know if NFL Rewind offers up exhibition games too, or just regular season games? I have a sub to the season to watch Broncos games online (after they’re archived) but looks like they may be cheapskates and not offer up exhibition games too.
Otherwise have to wait til Tuesday night it appears to watch replay of it on NFL Network. Knowing the score doesn’t matter much, just want to see some of the action…

Year-Two results on the McD playbook
We’ve now gotten pre-season looks at 5 QBs taking their first shot at the McD playbook. Every contestant got his hat handed to him on his first time out.
I’ve had patience with McD because I buy what’s being sold about his system. The theory all along was that it’s a short-term disadvantage, but a long-term advantage. In year one, there is just too much to master, especially when you havea roster molded to the equally distinctive Shanny approach. The progress we’ve seen in year 2 from Orton is excellent. We’ll know for sure that things are working in a year, when Quinn and Tebow are in their second camp, and have the chance to show real improvement.
The best thing McD did was call a late 4th quarter TO on a defensive stop. Gave Tebow the time to mount that last drive and really build his confidence. Tim looked like a 1st round QB last night and that drive showcased what he can bring to the NFL.
McD gets an check plus for his game day coaching in this game.
Denver: 32-32 until we're not.
haha a check plus?
Coming from you, I’ll take that!
It's just about time for us to get out there and win a MF Game!
Jim Armstrong
Seems to think the Raiders are the best team in the division this year; he doesn’t much like the Broncos in year two under McDaniels.
Evidently, he’s watching different games than I am.
I’m sorry, I just don’t get the injury hysteria pushed by so many excitable “experts.”. Better now than week 4 of pre-season or week 4 of the regular season. Other than Doom, we’ll have most every other starter ready — with Clady iffy for the first few games. We have the ability to go from 3-4 to 4-3 with proper personnel, and we have the right personnel (in my opinion) to do some creative blitzing.
Listening to Alfred Williams (who was a skeptic last season), Richard Quinn is a monster blocker, and Graham — well, we know what he can do. I think we’ll rely on them for protection the first few weeks. After that, I really like the makeup of our first and second teams.
Could surprise this year.
Yeah
I’ve been a firm believer we have a top 10 defense between our first and 2nd squads.
But our camp fodder just really sucks – although there are a couple that show some flashes, but a couple out of a couple dozen is not that spectacular!

Everyone is trying to pick a dark horse so they can be right
Why does Madden suck at ranking the Broncos so much?
If we wanted to be right
Wouldn’t we try and pick the logical team?

Kyle Orton: “I’m really excited abut our offense. We’re going to have a unit that can dominate a MF game.”
I’m not sure I’ve ever heard Kyle so bold. OK, so I put in the “MF” part, but the rest is true… and bold. And I like to hear it.
It's just about time for us to get out there and win a MF Game!

Yep, especially considering we’ve still got fairly un-tapped resources in Thomas and Decker that hopefully will be ready to produce as the season goes forward, as well as two of our starting linemen back, Clady and Kuper. His confidence is um, confidence inspiring.
It's just about time for us to get out there and win a MF Game!
I wonder if the word "dominate" is something that McD has been saying in meetings.
Because it seems like a lot of players have been using the word dominate. KO, Ayers are the two I can think of off of the top of my head.

I really liked Tebow's decision making
Although he takes a long time, he seems to recognize where he likes the match ups and then delivers. You can tell he’s been studying hard and working hard, since this is his first playing under fire and he didn’t throw into quadruple coverage, like someone else did.

Difficult to draw any conclusions about Tebow
one one or another. He was playing against 3rd and 4th stringers. Quinn didn’t look good and that needs to be corrected. We need a quality veteran backup QB, in case KO goes down. Tebow is just too far away from being ready to step in and perform well at the NFL level. If Brady Quinn doesn’t improve, then McD should bring in another veteran.
agree

Wow
The Broncos have way too much invested in Tebow for him to being playing behind a third-string offensive line any longer. Plus, the current No. 2 quarterback, Brady Quinn, showed nothing in Sunday night’s 33-24 loss in Cincinnati to prove he deserves to be a backup NFL quarterback.
Call me crazy, but I can barely believe he wrote that. I like the new, decisive Bill Williamson! LOL
