That is somewhat disturbing (Tebow)

I understand the issue with trying to read a defense and get first downs, but after re-watching the game last night, he honestly still has some major issues with his footwork and delievry. After supposedly working on those items pre-draft and after the draft, once the game started he reverted to that style. The problem I have with it is that long term, it is not going to work in the NFL, the wind up deleivery is going to lead to fumbles (as was seen with the sack that I felt was a fumble), and general lack of consistent accuracy of his passes. The measure of an NFL QB is not can he hit a guy that is three yards open, it’s can he hit a guy who has 12-inches of open space, and that starts with the footwork and delievry of the ball.

“but after re-watching the game last night, Tebow honestly still has some major issues with his footwork and delivery.”

Dude – Every scout and I mean everyone said Tebow had big problems with his mechanics. If you were expecting him to fix this before his 1st preseason game, you were beyond hammered on the Kool-Aid.

The guy will need AT LEADT 1 year to unlearn many of the bad habits he mastered at Florida, as well as adjust to the speed of the NFL. Most rookie QBs need a year before they are ready to play effective NFL football. Even Stafford and Sanchise played like crap for most of their rookie season last year. Matt Ryan played pretty crappy in his 2nd season.

most QB’s, regardless of how they hold the ball, would have fumbled on that hit — he had zero protection and just absolutely drilled.

I’m not sure we should take Ryan Harris out of any of these preseason games. We can’t afford a QB injury so some camp fodder enjoy one last moment in the sun. Bastile far and away the worst player on the field in the 2nd half of that Cincy game. My goodness does he suck. Ditto on Polumbus.

that sack came from the left side

Which I believe was Polumbus at that stage of the game.

Mike Klis from his mailbag:

“But I will agree that Smith’s performance is a concern. Smith has not developed as hoped after the Broncos traded a future first-round draft pick to draft him out of Wake Forest in the second round last year.

Smith was known as a ballhawk, not a tackler, but he has put himself on the roster bubble."

Can we just talk about about Darcel McBath and the awesome blocking of Richard Quinn instead?

The thing that strikes me about Ayers is that the OLB roles in the Broncos’ defense are not mirror-images of each other. If he lacks “finishing” moves on the QB, but reliabily collapses the pocket, plus makes plays in the running game, he’s an excellent player in the weak-side OLB position (what do you call that in a 3-4? Is it still “Will”?). But as a replacement for Doom, his skill-set isn’t right. Ideally, we’d have him on the weakside, Haggan in the middle, and a non-sucky Jarvis Moss justifying his existince on the strong side.

OLB and OT were the two positions where I thought depth was the worst on this year’s Broncos. Somebody on the team earned some sh*tty karma to direct the injuries to those locations. Maybe it’s payback for the er, generous personnel accounting of the Super Bowl years.

by Chibronx on Aug 17, 2010 10:17 AM MDT up reply actions

Darcel McBath looks great and Rich Quinn has yet to ever impress in an NFL game. Or in college for that matter.

How’s that.

I think we have more depth at all LB spots than you do. Atkins, Mays and Kirlew all did some good work vs Cincy. A guy like Jarvis Green is going to have to earn his money opposite bull rush Ayers.

Didnt even play

Quinn as far as I could tell didnt even play in the game. Geer was the 3rd TE off the bench in the 1st Qtr. Is Quinn hurt, in the dog house, wife having a baby??

he was injured in practice a couple days before the game so he didnt make the trip

by Todd Jewell on Aug 17, 2010 11:35 AM MDT up reply actions

You are right about OT. We have NO depth here since neither Polumbus or D’Anthony are actual NFL players. There are probably 75 OTs playing college football that I’d feel better about than either of those two.

D’Anthony is going to get one of our QBs hurt out there.
