How Kyle Orton's $8.8 million contract compares to NFL quarterbacks | All Things Broncos
While the $8.8 million salary Kyle Orton will receive in 2011 won’t make him the league’s highest-paid quarterback, he will make more than what Tom Brady, Drew Brees, Tony Romo and Jay Cutler are making this year.

The deal will give Orton three years, in the prime of his career, in Josh McDaniels’ offensive system. It will also help ease the pressure for rookie quarterback Tim Tebow, who could now get two years of developing under Orton and Brady Quinn, who is also signed through 2011.

I haven't heard or read anything about the status of Darrell Reid. Is he practicing? Is he expected to be full-go by the time (Ryan) Clady is, by Game 1? Do you think he could start, allowing (Mario) Haggan to possibly move back inside? What are your thoughts?

What new deal means to Orton and Tebow - AFC West Blog - ESPN
Orton is no longer a lame-duck quarterback this season. All the credit goes to Orton, a career-long afterthought who was a throw in when the Broncos traded Jay Cutler to Chicago last year. He played very well and was an early-season NFL MVP candidate before suffering an ankle season. The injury essentially derailed Denver’s season after it started 6-0.

Broncos coach Josh McDaniels isn't saying whether Tebow will be in or out when the Detroit Lions visit Invesco Field, but he's adamant that the first-round draft pick doesn't have to abandon his reckless abandon.

Stafford gives Lions rare commodity: hope - NFL - Yahoo! Sports
Matthew Stafford(notes) was flat on his back, surrounded on the sideline by the Detroit Lions’ medical staff. This was last November, the Lions with just one win on the season and down six to the Cleveland Browns. There was no time on the clock, but still one chance: The Browns had been called for end-zone interference on a Stafford mini-Hail Mary that the quarterback had released just before getting blasted.

Thanks, John
That is an epically bad lede by Klis. A one-year contract extension means an about-face on Orton? Klis seems like a nice guy and all, and he sure tries harder than Pork Chop did. But that’ is a ridiculous conclusion to draw.
Thanks, JOHN.

Welker's quick recovery, and solid performance...
give me hope that Clady will be ready for the season opener. I realize they are completely different injuries, but still…..just sayin ;)

Klis's article is a strange POV. I would think that they were always open to a one year extension but would have to raise the dollar amount and convince Orton that they were interested in him being around longterm to get him to sign it .
In other words what if they offered 7 million with 4 guaranteed and no real considerations for a longterm deal ? Orton wouldnt sign that so they see him in camp and minicamp and his upward trend is too great too ignore and so they up the dollars to a top half QB amount and convince Orton and his agent they theyre serious about working out something longterm if his play holds up and we have a new cba in place .
Ive said before but I think that both sides have been very honest and open about what each wants and needs because everything has been extremely low key for months similar to the Doom situation but the media kept that in the spotlight moreso than Doom no one ever actually bothered to ask Orton or Mcdaniels about his contract situation they just assumed Tebow was gonna be the guy sooner than later .
Thanks John
The article on the 4-3 preperation made me think about Hunter’s role.
Has he been brought in to help the guys for this prep or even to be part of the squad if the Broncos want to adapt to a 4-3 defence during the season?

Or will he be the next 4-3 DE to transition to 3-4 OLB for us?
If he can make that transition successfully, we can move Haggan back to ILB.

Patience and Thou shalt be rewarded
It’s good news on the Bronco’s organization to reward Orton his due credit for performing above and beyond in OTA and TC. I’m excited to see Orton progress and have further confidence in Josh’s system that once a QB masters the scheme, it’s a thing of beauty which Cutler sadly did not desire. Let’s see if the Greatest Show in Soldier Field will match up against McD’s Amoeba at Mile High.
