it could be...
that Bruce Hall will be on the roster for the first four weeks, after which he’d be replaced by White.
More than anything,
I think its McDaniels trying to show respect to Fargas, releasing him at a time when other teams might be interested in including him as part of the 75. Hopefully it also means Moreno is ready to start practicing this week.
Agreed I think it means both those things
Still a little surprised but he hadn’t looked that good yet and they didn’t want to wait around. Gives him time to latch on elsewhere. And also means that Lance Ball has looked so good why bother with Fargas?
Not surprised by Tony Carter’s cut either. Too much solid depth in DBackfield for him to compete with, alas. Wish him luck.
There's no need to fear, Underdog is here! / Broncos/Dodgers/Lakers fan in Niners/Raiders/Giants/Warriors country, and damned proud of it.
did you see Fargas in the last preseason game?
I was afraid he wouldnt be able to get up after each play.
"Iron sharpens Iron."
Fargas ahs always run with attitude
And he has since he got here. But he just hasnt gotten any yards doing it. I think this was the right move. I definitely want to see more of White.
Im thinking we keep 4 plus Larsen. Which means 3 plus White four weeks in. And I think Ball made the case for himself in that regard too.

Gene Hackman - Hoosiers
Ball is proving himself
to be solid depth. Fargas may just have been too late to the party — not enough time to digest the playbook between now and the start of the season, or prove himself to the coaches. If he’d had another month or two in the program, maybe he would have competed a little better.

Maybe a stupid question...
what’s the difference between being released and designated waived/injured?
"I've missed more than 9,000 shots in my career. I've lost almost 300 games. 26 times, I've been trusted to take the game winning shot and missed. I've failed over and over and over again in my life, and that is why I succeed." - Michael Jordan
"To give anything less than your best is to sacrifice the gift." - Steve Prefontaine
RIP BARREL MAN
Tony has less than 4 accrued seasons
Therefore he is subject to the waiver wire.
From the CBA
ARTICLE XXII
WAIVER SYSTEM
Section 1. Release:
(a) Whenever a player who has finished the season in which his fourth year of credited service has been earned under the Bert Bell/Pete Rozelle Plan is placed on waivers between February 1 and the trading deadline, his contract will be considered terminated and the player will be completely free at any time thereafter to negotiate and sign a Player Contract with any Club, and any Club shall be completely free to negotiate and sign a Player Contract with such player, without penalty or restriction, including, but not limited to, Draft Choice Compensation between Clubs or First Refusal Rights of any kind, or any signing period. If the waivers occur after that time, the player’s Player Contract will be subject to the waiver system and may be awarded to a claiming Club. However, if such player is claimed and awarded, he shall have the option to declare himself an Unrestricted Free Agent at the end of the League Year in question if he has a no-trade clause in his Player Contract. If such player does not have a no-trade clause and the Player Contract being awarded through waivers covers more than one additional season, the player shall have the right to declare himself an Unrestricted Free Agent as set forth above at the end of the League Year following the League Year in which he is waived and awarded.
(b) Whenever a player who has finished less than the season in which his fourth year of credited service has been earned under the Bert Bell/Pete Rozelle Plan is placed on waivers, the player’s Player Contract will be subject to the waiver system and may be awarded to a claiming Club.
Section 2. Contact: Coaches or any other persons connected with another NFL Club are prohibited from contacting any player placed on waivers until such time as the player is released by the waiving Club.
Section 3. Ineligibility: Any NFL player who is declared ineligible to compete in a pre-season, regular season or post-season game because of a breach by any NFL Club by whom he is employed of waiver procedures and regulations, or any other provision of the NFL Constitution and Bylaws, will be paid the salary or other compensation which he would have received if he had not been declared ineligible, which, in any event, will be a minimum of one week’s salary and, when applicable, expense payments.
Section 4. Notice of Termination: The Notice of Termination form attached hereto as Appendix G will be used by all Clubs. If possible, the Notice of Termination will be personally delivered to the player prior to his departure from the team. If the Notice of Termination has not been personally delivered to the player prior to his departure from the team, the Notice of Termination will be sent to him by certified mail at his last address on file with the Club.
***Waiver system: The procedure by which a player’s contract or NFL rights are made available by his current team to other teams in the league. During the procedure, the 31 other teams either file a claim to obtain the player or waive the opportunity to do so, thus the term waiver. The claiming period is typically ten days during the off-season, but from early July through December, it lasts only 24 hours. If a player is claimed by two or more teams in this period, priority is based on the inverse won-lost standing of the teams. The team with the worst record has priority. If no team selects the player, he’s free to sign with any team, including his previous employer. If no one signs him, he is unemployed — technically fired from the NFL.

My ship finally came in, but it was the Kobayashi Maru.
I believe it means the Broncos are releasing him but first they have to work out some sort of injury settlement because he was injured while signed with the team. I remember a similar scenario with Cecil Sapp a few years ago. Bsically Carter was cut but you can’t just cut an injured player there has to be some sort of setllement.

We did this with Barrett
Released basically means the team has severed relations with the player and the player is free to seek employment elsewhere.
Waived puts them on the waiver wire, as kirk mentioned above. The effect is that each team starting from the worst in 2009 to the best has the opportunity to claim him. If no-one claims him, the Broncos would be free to do something like place him on the practice squad. John did a great article on the waiver system just a week or so ago.

Well
Fargas tried, but I’m not sure he can do it anymore. I hope Knowshon’s nearly back

So if Knowshon is good to go
do they give him reps in this week’s garbage game or does he start stone cold in the regular season?
It's been an amazing 20 days Fargas!

The Bills
released Kyle Calloway, a rookie OT/OG from Iowa. I hope that we can bring him in and give him a look for depth purposes.
As for the Fargas cut, that may mean that LenDale White has a chance to stay.
wow, he was projected in rd 4 if I recall…but if he cant make the bills with a putrid O-line there, not sure he can help us. Maybe he wanted no part of the Bills.

Did not the Bills have some high OL draft picks in past couple years?
Maybe the Broncos could have more patience for him and room on the practice squad.
He is 6 7 and 323 measurable and of all things fell some in the draft because of a drunken moped DUI.
6-7 beers.0.106 legal limit in Iowa .080.
He was projected 6-7 round as a solid NFL backup teammate of Bryan Bulaga.
Seems like a perfect practice squad prospect.

Calloway’s height and athleticism on the edge is what draws scouts to the film room. The three-year starter earned All-Big Ten honorable mention at right tackle the past two seasons, but has been versatile enough to line up at left tackle in several games in 2007 and play right guard in their January Orange Bowl victory over Georgia Tech.
Although he’s not the elite prospect that Gallery, Steinbach or Verba were, Calloway’s length, strength, footwork and technique give him a chance for a long pro career — no matter where he’s placed on the line.
…
Analysis
Pass blocking: Mirrors and stays low against power defensive ends from his right tackle spot. Sets up quickly in pass protection and uses a good angle on his kick slide, rarely giving up the edge. Absorbs big punches and regularly anchors. Extends his arms to keep rushers at bay but could have a stronger punch to knock them off balance. Works to stay with his man on secondary rushes but will reach more than move his feet. Adjusts to twists but doesn’t always recognize or get a hand on inside blitzers. Will get tall and choppy in his footwork against quicker ends.
Run blocking: Attacks edge rushers on run plays, firing his hands into their jersey. Able to move in any direction. Solid combo blocker negates MIKE linebacker or other defenders coming inside-out. Latches onto the numbers and doesn’t let go. Keeps a wide base on the edge and keep his hands and feet active to sustain. Likes to keep his man on the ground through the whistle.
Pulling/trapping: Does not pull or trap much in Iowa’s zone blocking scheme but has good footwork for his size. Usually under control when on the move. Could trap if moved into the strong-side guard spot but should stay between the tackles.
Initial Quickness: Fires off the ball to run block, often locking down the defensive end on his side. Strong at punching the defensive tackle and quickly getting to linebacker in combo blocks. Quick off the snap into his kick slide for his size.
Downfield: Easily gets to linebackers, finding their numbers with his hands and keeping his feet moving to take them out of the play. Shows good flexibility to adjust in space. Uses angles to keep defenders from running around him to the ball. Typically stays on one block downfield but is agile enough to reach others in his area.
Intangibles: Durable, versatile, tough, and disciplined player with loads of potential. No major character concerns, but was arrested and suspended for a game for operating a moped while intoxicated in June 2009. Took responsibility for his actions.
Its hard to fault the guy for the moped thing
I mean is there a better time to ride a moped? They are about three notches down from a riding lawn mower in danger level. I’m not condoning his actions, just sayin.

Fargas, we hardly knew ye... but Ball is awesome.
If Taylor Swift were to try and tackle me, I'd let her.
If someone owned an ICEE truck and wanted to kidnap me, I'd let them.

This move (Fargas) makes sense to me
Fargus ahs fewer years left, we have younger and non-injured good prospects. I kind of hope the pattern continues as we prune the roster.
So would you be in favor of cutting Stokley in favor of Willis?
Or would he be an exception to this pattern?
No, No change there. I would, with regrets, say goodbye to a great player and great guy, and keep Willis,
then ask Stokes if he wants to get into coaching.
