If My Eyes Don't Deceive Me ......

We had a hell of a 2010 draft ...

It looks like we are keeping:

WR Demaryius Thomas (1st Round, 22nd overall)

QB Tim Tebow (1st Round, 25th overall)

OL Zane Beadles – (2nd Round, 45th overall)

C J.D. Walton – (3rd Round, 80th overall)

WR Eric Decker – (3rd Round, 87th overall) (from Philadelphia)

CB Perrish Cox – (5th Round, 137th overall) (from Philadelphia via Cleveland)

CB Syd’quan Thompson - (7th, 225th overall)

Don't think these picks makes the cut

C Eric Olsen – (6th Round, 183rd overall)

DE/OLB Jammie Kirlew – (7th, 232rd overall)

If this is the case, McD and crew were 100% through the first 5 rounds encompassing 6 picks and then 1 out of 3 in the 6th through 7th rounds.

Of course only time will tell on these and not all will be pro bowl bound but to get this value from a draft is nothing short of spectacular as it appears right now. You will be hard pressed to find a draft that has delivered so much consistency in recent years with the caveat that they all appear to be what they appear to be.

If so, nice job McD and staff (even though only time will tell)

For homerific discussion, who do you think makes the pro bowl from this list? I am going to go with

Thomas

Tebow

Cox

I would add Walton

for a future Pro-Bowler as well.

Some good Centers in the AFC

Pouncey did a number on Jamaal. If Denver was in the NFC I’d say sure.

sack

didn’t he give up a sack against ayers on dixon?

by tunesmith on Aug 31, 2010 12:57 PM MDT up reply actions

Over at Steel Curtain, they think Pouncy just held his own.

and were giving him credit for doing it against Jamaal. Interesting how perspective can affect it.

The few times...........

I watched Pouncey and Jamaal, Pouncey couldn’t handle him without help. And that is Jamaal’s job right? to tie up 2 blockers and keep our LB’s clean?

CHARACTER, INTELLIGENCE, and HARD WORK often beats TALENT but what happens when you load up on all 4???????????

To be honest, I was watching the outside, but the one time I checked the middle...

Pouncey snapped the ball, and the NT took him and laid him into the RG’s feet. The play was an inside run for minimal gain. Pouncey had very little power, and the NT easily had his way with him.

Although, to be fair, maybe the point was to get the NT out of the way, in which case, Pouncey succeeded.

Didn't see any examples of Pouncey handling Jamaal

Did see several plays where JW pushed him into the backfield and even more plays where he was doubled up. Went back through the play by play and didn’t see any runs up the middle either. No knock on Pouncey from what I hear JD is having trouble with JW as well. Would love to ask Jamaal which center he thinks is tougher to handle.

How about Zane Beadles!

Honestly I was concerned the week leading up to the Steelers. I was imagining Sportscenter highlights of the rookie taking on the former defensive MVP but Zane Beadles was well up for the challenge!
Back in April when Floyd Little went up to the podium and announced a name I have never heard before I was in shock. I think me and Tom Jackson had the same reaction after hearing Sergio Kindle we where expecting a someone in Mel Kiper’s top ten. Well if someone told me then that we could get a Left Tackle/ Guard that could dominate J Harrison at pick # 43 I don’t think I would have believed it. Well we might have got the biggest steal of the Draft after P Cox at pick number #43. This Draft looks better everyday. Go Broncos!

Was their really any doubt we'd keep our 3rd rounders and up?

I do agree about Kirlew, Olsen and Thompson will be decided next game I think.

Well, until they play ....

yes … there has to be some doubt. But not only the fact that they make the squad but they currentl look like good picks.

by prunch on Aug 31, 2010 12:38 PM MDT up reply actions

I don't think I know a single 1st rounder that didn't make their team outside of injury

2nd and 3rd rounders almost always do, but I guess sometimes they don’t.

by RockyMountainThunder on Aug 31, 2010 1:44 PM MDT up reply actions

Haha good example

But he actually made the team and signed a four year contract, he was just cut during the pre-season, plus he was a last 3rd rounder, last pick of the 3rd round actually.

You are right though, I wouldn’t dream of calling any of our picks Hall of Famers yet.

Here's how I like to evaluate

Within three years these players will be:
Elite All-Pro
Solid Starter
Solid Contributor/ Role Player
Backup Player
Bust

Here is what I expect:
D. Thomas- Elite All Pro
T. Tebow-Solid Starter
Z. Beadles-Solid Starter
J.D. Walton-Elite All Pro
Perrish Cox Solid Starter, but wouldn’t be surprised with Elite All Pro at all
Eric Olsen- Backup player at Best, but wouldn’t be shocked with Bust
Syd’quan Thompson Solid Contributor/Role Player
Jammie Kirlew-Bust, could be backup at best

Here’s to hoping. I think Beadles and Walton already are solid starters and Thompson and Cox have shown they can contribute.

2 Elite players and 3 solid starters is pretty good.

Darcel McBath-Elite All Pro -Yes I believe in him that much
Richard Quiin-Solid Starter
David Bruton-Solid Contributor/Role Player
Seth Olsen-Bust, Sadly
Kenny McKinley, Backup Player
Tom Brandstater, Backup Player
Blake Schleuter-El Busto

Can’t remeber if I missed anyone.

Leave it to me to defend Smith

Smith-Solid Contributor/Role Player
Quinn-Solid Contributor/Role Player
McBath- Solid starter- He’s not going to be all pro next year.
McKinley-Bust
Brandstater-Bust

A bit harsh on McKinley?

Labelling him a backup/bust after 1 year and then being put on IR – my impression is he was doing ok until he got injured?

by NZBroncoFan on Aug 31, 2010 9:13 PM MDT up reply actions

My problem with McKinley

Is that he was to frail. The runback in which he got injured last year is attests to that. I was a supporter of McKinley when he was drafted but since then, I became of the opinion that he doesn’t have a NFL body. I doubt to see him during a regular season game again.

I thought you were saying since he was drafted

But if you’re talking about 3 years from now, I agree wholeheartedly.

Who is this Eric Decker you speak of?

We have Ed McCaffrey still on the team. I think you mean him.

No good catch. Decker I think will be Solid Starter, on the outside with D. Thomas and E. royal in the Slot.

Seriously, when it comes to cutting down to 53, CB will cause the coaches to lose some sleep!

Hope they can makes some trades where we are not losing future starters to other teams for free! When do we have to be down to 53?
