Statement from Denver Broncos Head Coach Josh McDaniels:
"Kenny had a promising future on the football field, but more importantly, he was a great teammate whose smile and personality could light up the room. This is a tragic loss for our football team, and his family is in all of our thoughts and prayers during this difficult time."

This is a damn shame.
I have no words.
Rest in peace Kenny.
Why does Madden suck at ranking the Broncos so much?
all my prayers
go out to his child. This is so sudden and confusing, horrible and saddening. It’s just a freaking crime to lose such a bright, caring young man. His whole life before him, never to be realized, taken way too early from his friends and loved ones. It’s NOT RIGHT.
Sad, sad day to be a Bronco fan.
In good times and bad times, I'm a Bronco fan. Sucka.

My heartfelt thanks go to all the players who ever wore the orange, or fought to do so. I wish we had another 40 roster spots, at least.

What a terrible tragedy. So sad to lose such a young talented man. My heart goes out to his family and teammates.
Come together as a team this weekend and play your hearts out for Kenny. It makes you remember how fragile and fleeting a life can be. Cherish the time you have with those around you because you never know when they will be taken from you.
RIP Kenny
Very sorry for him, his family, and friends.
My condolences to the family and friends. R.I.P Kenny...
May you find the peace in death you must have been unable to find in life.
I have not yet begun to procrastinate.
May God bless and keep you, Kenny. Our prayers are with you and your family.
I saw it on ESPN and prayed I was wrong. Such tragedy. Again.
Sad day for Broncos, but sadder still for the child.
I agree with BroncoMath101, this is definitely the time to cherish what you have, it can be gone in an instant. RIP, Kenny….

First time to post here after reading for a long time, but my thoughts and prayers go out to Kenny’s family, his friends, his teammates, and anyone close to him. Reading this made me think about how fragile life is and then made me immediately go and hug my little son.
Reminds us that there is more to life than football, but that football can be a great escape and place for comfort and bonding. I’m sure the Broncos family will come together even closer now.

Be at peace, Kenny
Such a tragedy for a promising young man. I hope his teammates on the Broncos are given grief counseling or some bereavement time to help them deal with this too.
I read on twitter

This is truly a shock. My thoughts and prayers go out to the McKinley family and the people who were close to him. RIP Kenny.
If Taylor Swift were to try and tackle me, I'd let her.
It is so sad to see a young man go with
so much talent and from all accounts a great personality. I never saw him in person but from what I saw on TV and in pictures he always had a huge smile on his face. He always seemed like the was in a great mood and having a great time. The feeling of shock and loss is exactly the way I felt when Darrent Williams was killed.
RIP Darrent Williams and Kenny McKinley. Two great young men that will be missed by everyone.

It is so difficult to understand how a young man with such promise could take his life.
Those of us who have never faced depression can’t know the pain every day brings. The sense of hopelessness, the sense that things will never get any better. There is no joy or anything to look forward to. The only way out of the pain seems to be to end it once and for all. We can’t understand such depth of despair or realize how difficult it is to see alternatives. May all who knew him find peace in their lives and find hope in new beginnings.
Imagination is more important than knowledge. A. Einstein
So utterly tragic, sad.
I saw the news via Twitter after coming out of a movie screening this afternoon and stared at it incomprehensibly as I’m sure y’all did. It’s just a reminder of Ponderosa says above and others of you have said, and that everyone, not just athletes, but everyone, should reach out to anyone who has been dealt tough breaks in life. And who show signs of depression.
It’s got to be such a stunning, shocking feeling for the players who knew him. I hope they can come together and support anyone in need. We found out with the DWilliams tragedy that it can really have a lasting effect on guys that they may not even acknowledge at first.

They'll either put out 110% and destroy Indy or the emotion will be too much and they'll fold.
Either way, this game will be put in perspective and ultimately, win or lose, will not mean nearly as much as all of us waking up in the morning, taking a deep breath, appreciating what we have and living our lives for as long as we are given the gift of life.
If Taylor Swift were to try and tackle me, I'd let her.

Condolences to his family, friends and teammates
But most importantly his child. I grew up with divorced parents and that was really hard. I cannot begin to comprehend growing up without a father at all. As for for Kenny I cannot understand what would make him want to kill himself, if that is on fact what happened. If he were still here he would all the family, friends and teammates that care do much about him and how his loss will effect their lives forever. I personally believe suicide is extremely stupid and the most selfish thing but that is for another time completely. Hope you find peace wherever you are now. R.I.P. To you, Travis Henry, Darent Williams and Dsmien Nash who lives were all cut too short.

Depression is a very real thing
it is sad that he did not go talk to someone about it and instead chose to take his own life. If you ever know someone that is depressed or just needs to talk you should take a moment to just listen. Just let the person let out all their worries while you listen. Things like this can be the difference between life and death.
This is a very sad night

Gettin' 60 Minutes.......
It always seems that the good die young.
My thoughts and prayers go out for the living soul of this outstanding young man! I know he will always get 60 minutes of playing time on first team in the great game beyond and never have to spend another minute or frustrating season sentenced to just watching from the ranks of the injured reserve. Go in Peace!
Terrible news.
A very sad time for Bronco Nation.

The local Fox news report mentioned financial pressures - What was he getting paid being on IR status?
I assume that regardless of legal technicalities that some things will be done to take care of his family.
Obviously the young man had some stress for being placed on injured reserve, but does that in the NFL still have a large salary or compensation package as opposed to just being cut from a roster?
Does the NFL or teams have some sort of a insurance or other plan in place for families under the circumstances or is it to the goodwill of the organization here or is his estate still owed income from the organization.
I just don’t understand even as I so much understand depression as an illness and why suicides occur in theory, I still don’t understand and never will . RIP So sad.
he was scheduled to make $395,000 if he had been on the 53-man roster.
Since he would spent the whole season on IR, it would be reduced to $240,000.
Bleeding Orange & Blue in The Netherlands
Depression causes irrational worries about things
Even if 99.9% of the rest of the world wouldn’t worry in that situation, it seems like the end of the world to the depressed. It’s so tragic that this sort of thing can go unnoticed until it is too late.

Depression makes it hard to put things in perspective , even a significant income like that
You can say NFL teams are not family all you want and them something happens like this
As someone who suffers from depression I can tell you
That you will not be able to make sense of it. As others have said, us depressive types fell backed into a corner, with no options and nothing to look forward to in life. Usually we feel as if we are a great burden on everything and everyone around us and that we offer nothing positive to the ones who love us. Many of us want to be better but it is an illness that requires constant treatment, whether from self, loved ones, therapists, or medication. The best explanation I have ever heard someone use is this: You feel like someone has put a giant glass over top of you. While you are screaming at the top of your lungs for someone to listen, no one can hear you.
H. Ross Perot was a wealthy Detroit businessman. He had millions of dollars in net worth and owned several companies that were successful. He was also a manic depressive and for no apparent reason whatsoever decided to hang himself with his pool hose one day.
Life can be bizarre, fragile, and yet precious. When I see something like this, the only thing that I can do is look at all of the people around him that he was loved by, and he let down. All of those people saddened and feeling the loss makes you realize that even if you don’t feel loved, you are. It is the one thing that has helped keep me in check as my life has gone on.
Ndamukong Suh - Bringing 50's football back to Motown!
Prayers for his family.... I hope if anyone here in the MHR family are feeling sad they will reach out to someone.
He had such a bright future ahead of him and not because of football.

I'm sitting here on my sofa with my 2-year-old
I first read this last night, and it took me a minute to comprehend what I was reading. It was mentioned in passing, and I sort of put it out of my mind hoping it wasn’t true. I’m having trouble reading all the heart-felt comments from everyone. Things like this make you appreciate all the wonderful things in your life. RIP, Kenny. You’ll be missed more than you knew.
As a Chiefs fan, this is a major wake-up call for all football fans.
It’s a reminder beyond the helmet logo there’s a person with a name, a family, a history. Losing a player makes it personal, no matter what color or logo he is sporting. I remember losing Derrick Thomas; my heart was heavy for the longest time. But Denver has lost three players in a short span of time, and that is unfathomable. I offer my sympathies to Kenny’s family, teammates, coaches, and fans. He may be gone, but you will be able to hold onto the memories; that is something that cannot be taken from you. And may the team use his memory as inspiration to win the next game in his honor.
Signed,
SupremeChief
