Last year's stats for Dallas Clark against the Broncos....5 Catches, 43 yards and 3 TD's. All 3 were in the RZ, 2 were from the 1 yard line.
Our LB crew CANNOT cover Clark. It will be upon Wink to assign someone to cover him. Last week BDawk seemed like he was constantly covering Carlson. We may see that again this week, but I don't know if Dawk is fast enough to keep up with Clark. It may just be a matter of trying to keep him from breaking the long one, ala the Giants game last week.
Dallas Clark is Manning's second highest targeted receiver. He rarely drops passes. He usually scores.
I said this last year before the game and I've been preaching it earlier this week. If we don't find someone who can stop/limit him, we will lose. Our second string DB's will have no chance against him, but I think they could limit Garcon and Collie....Cox, maybe, but I don't think so. Jones? No way. So can Champ or Dawk do this? If Champ is healthy and plays, he will probably cover Wayne...and rightly so. Dawk did pretty well against Carlson. Carlson is good, but he's no Clark. I didn't reference Goody, because I saw the play where he pulled up lame last week...It wasn't pretty, and I expect he'll be out. I don't think he could cover him either.
We did pretty well in the open field against Clark, but he killed us in the redzone. He feigns a block and jumps across the line for a pass that's already on the way.
So, who do you think matches up best with Clark? Does it even matter if we're in goalline defense? Is there a scheme to lock him down from the 10 yard line in? All questions that I'm sure are keeping Wink up at night.
