Denver Broncos Claim OT Chris Clark, Cut OLB Baraka Atkins
The Denver Broncos have claimed offensive tackle Chris Clark and cut outside linebacker Baraka Atkins, per Gary Miller and Max Broncos on Twitter.
Clark was originally signed as an undrafted free agent by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2008, and was most recently with the Minnesota Vikings.
The former Southern Mississippi left tackle started three straight seasons for the Golden Eagles from 2006-2008. He will provide the Broncos some size (6'5" 315) and depth along the offensive line, where it is desperately needed.

Not much at all.
Vikings fans said he sucked in the pre-season, glad he’s gone.

fans aren't the best judge of ability....lol
no usually anyway
Verbose in style, dispersion of thought, procrastination in life.

If his own team isn't even optimistic
I like to think us as Broncos fans are the BEST judges of ability. We might be optimistic and hoping every player does well, but if this guys own fans in Minnesota, who are the biggest homers in the WORLD, don’t like him…

I like to think...
That professional coaches are the best judge of ability – but in the realm of fan opinion I will give Broncos fans the edge. LOL
Buy you have a point – Vikes fans are pretty up on their team and its worth noting their thoughts.
My question is whether or not there is presently a better option available. We may question this move but I wonder if anyone has a suggestion as to who they might have picked instead. Seriously.
You're either a fan or you're not.

Not sure I like this pickup
I’m not finding much information. He’s got two years on the practice squad and was cut again this year.
The only way this makes sense to me is if the Broncos picked him up to see if he might work at left guard.

nice thought, i wonder if he tried left guard before? or right guard?

Alan...left guard?? That position is pretty well manned by Zane Beatles and Stanley Daniels.
NAH, we need tackles because Zaney bu. is backup to the Ryan’s. No I do not think Batiste is a qualit
why didn't we cut Bruce Hall instead of Atkins...
since we picked up that RB from the Giants….I don’t see much need in Hall…

Looks like another LB on the way. Doubt we would go in with just Ayers, Hunter and Moss. (Although Haggan can go outside I think they like him in the middle.
Not a chance. He is a 4th year Vet

Didn't the Vikes run the ball pretty well last year?
Was this kid just not able to unseat a starter? If so, he might be an upgrade to our options right now. I don’t know his story, but I’m just saying. Is this guy the best available fit?

Here's my take
I don’t think he was athletic enough in Minn…I think he could fill a role for us at G though. I think it is another pick by the FO looking for some overlooked talent.

Hall is on PS
Per the DP, when Chris Clark was picked up Bruce Hall was moved to the practice squad.
Meant when Andre Brown was picked up
that Bruce Hall was moved to the practice squad.
{{Sniff}}
no one reads my comments above I guess… {sniff} ;-( j/k
Yeah Brown over Hall seems a no brainer. Even tho Brown can’t go first game.

Bruce Hall can not be moved to PS! He will have to clear waivers first.
Then on Monday (remember 24 hours) if Denver still wants him they can claim him.
yes
CB too if Champ leaves…

Word
Moss 2.0 is showing us something but he and Ayers both need to do it when the games count. Color me cautiously optimistic.

Perrish Cox!
I’m excited that Perrish Cox made the team. Now, remind me- how many players are on the team without Cox?

Arnett
I’m kind of surprised that Britt Davis was added to the practice squad over Alric Arnett. Didn’t Arnett have a TD catch against the Vikings?

TIME TO BELIEVE. BRONCO Champions are being forged as we speak
Chris Clark
Here is an interesting article bemoaning the Minnesota Oline woes. Seems like they have been complaining about their offensive line for awhile, and not surprised that they would say Clark was a liability. One thing I am curious about, and perhaps someone who knows more about this than I do can answer: The Vikings were using a zone blocking system, and complained about the large size of their linemen. The Broncos are using a power blocking scheme and will be pulling guards, right? So getting another huge OT, a la Clady, in Clark, who will be put in for pass blocking, would fit better in our scheme than Minnesota’s—or am I just ignorant about all this Oline technique? Thanks for setting me straight if I am off . . .
Thanks for the reply
Just hoping that Clady will get back to pro bowl shape and Harris gets back also—just amazed at the continuing problems getting healthy on Oline, RB.
Bruce Hall
will easily clear waivers. Could you think of anyone that wants him? Against the Vikes, he was TERRIBLE. They were pretty much playing their third-stringers at that stage
Brad James
by the new Bradfather on Sep 5, 2010 7:08 PM MDT reply actions
Not to disagree about Hall
but our Oline has to open some holes—best back in the world needs some line blocking and McD was trying all kinds of position switches by that point.
I wonder who else we missed out on
I noticed that we put in a claim on Lumpkin as well, and missed out…could be multiple others we haven’t heard much about. Don’t they understand the Broncos are supposed to have the first pick of any and all waived players?
