Does anyone know how rusty Revis will be in week 1?

I assume he’s been staying in shape, just not practicing on the field.

Also, I’m very intrigued by the prospect of watching Miami vs. the Jets, particularly Marshall vs. Revis. I remember Marshall having some trouble against good corners, now he’ll be going against one of the best twice a year.

He could be rusty

What a lot of people don’t understand though is that there is a difference between being in shape and being in football shape, and the only way to get in football shape is to play and practice football. But for a CB that won’t be as hard as say a DL or OL.

Plus, he’s one of those few special players in this league that could pull this off. I’m not really all in on the Revis hype, but still this shouldn’t pose a problem for a player of his caliber.

And on BMarsh, fully agreed. I think actually his biggest weakness is physical corners. I remember the Philly game Sheldon Brown smacked him on one screen and BMarsh wasn’t a factor in the game afterwards

by DBroncs1414 on Sep 6, 2010 9:57 AM MDT up reply actions

I think Marshall may have some problems

But you need to remember that Marshall is 6’4" and 230 pounds versus Revis who is 5’11" 198 pounds. Marshall will be able to out muscle and get over Revis, but Revis is good at jumping routes, and that is where he will disrupt a bigger guy like Marshall.

I am a bear of very little brains and big words bother me.

by Topher Doll on Sep 6, 2010 10:06 AM MDT up reply actions

I know that's what he'slisted at

But I’m pretty sure he is taller than 5’11. I have heard in the past he is 6’2 and although that still gives the advantage to Marshall it helps.

And I don’t think Revis is as physical as Brown, I was just saying from my observations that physical CB’s can negate Marshall. Revis v. Marshall should be some good battles

by DBroncs1414 on Sep 6, 2010 10:17 AM MDT up reply actions

I don't think that players list themselves as smaller

I hear about listing bigger, but not smaller, and 5’11" and 6’2" is a big difference. It’s true though, a bigger corner can compete with Marshall, but imagine what Marshall would do to a guy like Squid, who I am a big fan of.

I am a bear of very little brains and big words bother me.

by Topher Doll on Sep 6, 2010 4:34 PM MDT up reply actions

Revis can also try to disrupt Marshall mentally.

Brandon is one of those guys that can be taken out of a game if his head isn’t in it. (I think I remember this happening against the Dolphins, not sure.)

I wasn't aware of Marshall having trouble with physical corners, but if it's true, it's quite odd.

Considering how physical Marshall himself is.

Lost in W&D

With all the wheeling and dealing, what happened to Jarron Gilbert? He was claimed, then unclaimed, then someone said the Broncos should have claimed him instead of Clark. Is he better than Clark? Are there any better (healthier) rbs out there than Andre Brown? It seems a turf toe issue may not be much immediate help. Is Geer better than Branson, who once was mentioned as an H-Back and could have been used in short yardage? An article on who the Broncos ended up with and who they could have gotten would be interesting.

by opinion8r on Sep 6, 2010 7:20 AM MDT reply actions

Jarron Gilbert is a DT and Clark is an OT so I don’t get your question.

If we took Andre Brown with a turf toe, it’s pretty clear that is not a short term move. That is one the FO believes will have a long term impact if Brown becomes a regular. I would suspect Moreno is more healthy that Ryan Harris based on the two roster moves.

Denver: 32-32 until we're not.

by McGeorge on Sep 6, 2010 8:09 AM MDT up reply actions

Agreed

But I wonder whom else we tried to claim. Urbik would have been a huge get. Not sure about this lineman they picked up; my guess is that it’s either short term insurance, or that they think he was out of his element in a zone scheme and will flourish in a power scheme.

Still, he couldn’t really pass protect. Maybe his future is at guard.

by JeffG on Sep 6, 2010 9:19 AM MDT up reply actions

I think Clark is a short term move and Brown is viewed as a possible RB for the future.

It has nothing to do with offense v. defense

It has to do with who is the better plug in for the team at this juncture (end of preseason) that can help the team going into the season. Clark just doesn’t seem like much help of any kind.

by opinion8r on Sep 6, 2010 3:09 PM MDT up reply actions

Just had that holy-sh*t moment

All preseason, I assumed we’d deal with the Clady outage by lining up Graham or Quinn over his replacement. I’m just realizing what a mammoth injury issue we’re looking at.

The potential starting OL would be Beadles-Daniels-Walton-Hochstein-Baptiste, with Gronkowski for blocking help, and Ball in the backfield. Yikes!

by Chibronx on Sep 6, 2010 8:08 AM MDT reply actions

well Clady will start and so should Kuper

Quinn started the last preseason game, so he is fine as well
Clady, Daniels, Walton, Kuper, Beadles, with Quinn blocking [although I imagine they just kept Graham out because they know he doesn’t need the reps].

And the he should be ready to go in week 1.

just like last season ; )

Except this time last season I assumed that Knowshon + Bobby Turner + B Marsh + Josh McDaniels would equal offensive domination. : /

Good thing we got a little bigger up front. Let’s hope those rookie nasty streaks pay some dividends this year.

For all the publicity given the Chargers situation with Vincent Jackson, I think McNeil's absence is just as much an issue

Not having their big LT to start the year is huge. They are having to shuffle guys around, Dombrowski will play LT instead of RT, they just signed Adam Terry to give depth, and none of that adds up to McNeil.

I know why we focus on our own concerns about the health of our own OL, but the Chargers have some real worries here.

Sounds to me like TE Gronkowski could be a key factor in the short yardage runs.

The dude can squat 635 LBS if that means anything. I like the fact that we are acquiring tough, physical and smart players…BTW he holds a master degree I believe in marketing, so there we have it. The take on Dan is he only caught one pass in 2 games he played, well, that doesn’t tell the whole story on him and reporting of this type is the genuine BS we get from DP even if it is Legwold in whom I have the most repect over there. How was his blocking abilities? That’s what I want to know and hear…

by bfree2bronc on Sep 6, 2010 12:16 PM MDT reply actions

All of his draft reports the year he came out had pass blocking as a strength in college

But all the recent articles I read from Detroit emphasized his pass catching there.

Seem though a guy who is a record setting type of strong weightlifter would have the strength to be a great blocker if he was coached well.

by Kosty on Sep 6, 2010 1:15 PM MDT reply actions

I like the emphasis on smart fast and position flexible players as well

Eventually that adds things in your favor and helps the odds.

One common thing I see about the prominent releases last year with Jay Cutler, Brandon Marshall and Tony Scheffler, is that they all seemed hugely physically talented, but not the most intellectual and disciplined of players and not the brightest football players around and prone to emotional and sloppy play.

I think McDaniels values smart and disciplined play more and feels that allows the system to work the odds, and not just have free lance physical play be the thing you count on to save the day, as thats more random.

won’t be worth dog poop. He is just a way for coach to keep from cutting Smith—happens all the time.
