And now to get to that 75 word limit, that playoff game in 96 was pretty good, wasn't it?

While the Broncos eclipsed 300 yards rushing in that game, there were only two backs that rushed for 100+ each.
Terrell Davis had 184 and Derek Loville had 103. Vaughn Hebron came in a distant third with only 23 yards rushing.
Olandis Gary wasn’t drafted until 1999.

To be honest, I thought that the Broncos actually did that once to someone, where three backs all went for 100+ each, but I can’t find anything that backs it up. Perhaps I’m just getting old and really really nostalgic LOL

How is your secondary?
Do you think that your DBs would match up well against Jabar Gaffney, Eddie Royal, Brandon Lloyd, Demaryius Thomas, Eric Decker, and Matthew Willis?
If Taylor Swift were to try and tackle me, I'd let her.
If someone owned an ICEE truck and wanted to kidnap me, I'd let them.
That’s something Jag fans are throwing the panic button on. Rashean Mathis is still a gamer, but after that, it’s a mixed bag. Derek Cox has the talent, but has been playing with an injury. Then we cut or traded away practically every safety on the roster.

Is there a pretty solid pass rush to help with the holes in your secondary?
If not, I believe that our depth at WR could be something that the Jags struggle with on sunday.

The 2009 Jags had one of the worst pass rushes in the modern NFL and a lot of money was spent in the offseason to correct that. Mainly in the form of bringing in Aaron Kampman and Tyson Alualu.
The pass rush is certainly going to be improved, but we can’t say by how much just yet.

I think Eugene Monroe is going to take his place amongst the other great AFC tackles this year. After coming into the 2009 camp out of shape (thanks to a 2 week holdout) and battling a severe flu, he really kicked it into another gear in the 2nd half of 2009. He came into this year’s camp in excellent shape and was a dominant force during the preseason.
After that, I dunno. Some uneducated talking heads keep praising RT Eben Britton, but he’s been inconsistent at best. The interior of the offensive line is also an issue. C Brad Meester was really bad last year, but has looked like he might rebound this year. Also, G Vince Manuwai is in year 2 of his recovery from ACL surgery.

How many fans are buying tickets for 4 games
on the small chance that Tebow runs one or two snaps out of the Wildcat formation?
QPU # 2.
No, last I heard, the other half pack was outselling the Denver one 3-1.
It’s honestly what I expected. Everyone with half a bran realized Tebow would’ve been an extremely stupid short term solution to the Jaguars ticket problems. He would’ve been holding a clip board all year and no one’s going to pay $50 a ticket to see their favorite player benched.
Big Cat Country, The #1 Jaguars blog on the net
by Jonathan Loesche on Sep 6, 2010 12:26 PM MDT up reply actions
Agreed about that not being a solution
There would have been a lot of frustrated fans since he would’ve sat most of the year barring injuries. And the coach doesn’t want a QB controversy. And also, didn’t they have a fairly high first round pick? They wouldn’t have taken him there, and by the time they picked 2nd he would’ve been gone. They would’ve had to make some major moves to get him when they had other glaring needs. But as we Broncos fans have found out, don’t let logic and fairness get in the way of the MSM’s arguments!

The Broncos really struggled in Miami season opener
a few years back because of the weather. Do the Jags where their white uni’s at home? If so, Denver should wear their orange unis instead of their dark blues.
QPU # 2.
Usually no surprisingly.
Del Rio’s first home game as HC was vs Buffalo. Honestly I think that was the hottest, muggiest game I’ve been to in person in my life. Jax wore their white jerseys, like they always did when Coughlin was the HC. Yet Buffalo still whipped us 38-17. After that game Del Rio basicly swore off wearing white at home. Though we have done it twice since, home openers in 2005 (vs Seattle) and 2006 (vs Dallas)

The Jags are going to be surprised at how good we are now that everyone is close to healthy.
The only thing the jags got going for them is the run game. Our answer will be the Dawk laying some wood on MJD.

It should be an interesting test for the Broncos now that Shanahan is no longer here.
There were questions that arose after the departure of Mike Shanahan and his conditioning methods, those discrepancies hopefully have been dianosed and rectified. I don’t think the weather will be much of a factor as both teams have to play in it. Let’s hope both teams play well and the best team comes out on top!
I think the Jags may also shock you. The passing attack has improved. David Garrad completed over 70% of his passes this preseason and having MJD back will open up playaction pass opportunities and draw safeties into the box. The D line also appeared much improved and I am picking Derrick Harvey to finally have a big year. The Jags won’t be a cake walk.

Del Rios future
Do you think if Del Rio dosnt win this year he is out as Jags head coach?
Also why do the Jags have such a hard time selling tickets? Is there just a lack of interest in the team in jacksonville because yall have been fairly competative teh past few years even when you havent made the playoffs.
I think it’s pretty much playoffs or bust for Jack at this point. This team has had twice as many December collapses (4) compared to playoff appearances (2) and only 1 playoff win to show for it.
As far as tickets go, last year was something of a perfect storm. Jax has the 2nd highest unemployment rate in the league, after Detroit. A lot of people were jaded when 2008’s Super Bowl run turned into a 5-11 team.
If you look at the year’s before 2009, Jax was right in the middle of attendance. The tarps were put on the stadium because quite frankly it was far too big for the market. At 73K and some change, it was the 6th largest stadium in the league, yet Jax is the 2nd smallest market.
The team has since launched one of the greatest PR campaigns in history with it’s “Team Teal” promotion. The team has sold over 15,000 new season tickets and is on the right direction.

Who do you think Mathis will cover?
lot of guys on our team can get separation, catch, and make a play afterwards.
Also, what do you expect from Garrard this year?
Not sure, typically Mathis line’s up on the left side of the formation, so whichever wide out will be there.
As for Garrard, he’ll put up decent numbers, but he’s the prototypical “Game Manager” QB. GM Gene Smith has made it perfectly clear he intends to take a QB high in next year’s draft, so the writing is on the wall there. Also, little factoid of interest, the Jags haven’t taken a QB since Leftwich in 2003. That’s the longest period of any team in the NFL.

When he was first drafted, needless to say everyone at BCC let out a collective WTF.
However, as we researched the pick we liked it. He had better numbers than Gerald McCoy. He’ll be a starter. Got a sack on his first play of the preseason.
Alot of people were championing Notre Dame QB Jimmy Clausen, but obviously that would’ve been a huge reach.

This will be around while now, thanks for doing this JL.
Question:
There was talk Del Rio “lost” the lockerroom when the Mike Peterson flap happened. Where is he now? I know the ownership is tight with money right now and would avoid paying 2 coaches like the plague, but does he still “have” the team?
Also, WR Mike Thomas played here at U of A and he was a playmaker. I hear good things about him, what are the fans’ thoughts? I hope he drops 5 balls against us but then catches 80 balls the rest of the yr:)
Always remember Goliath was a 40 point favorite over David.
-- Shug Jordan
First off, Weaver has never been afraid to spend money. Just because the Jags don’t go out and get a TO or Mike Vick doesn’t mean the team is cheap.
As for Del Rio, I do think he lost the locker room in 2008. He brought in Gregg Williams to be the DC and just expected Williams and Koetter to take the team to the Super Bowl. He proceeded to then become a major part of the Jax socialite scene rather than being the HC. Then when the season went to hell and Jack acted like he was there all along, it was the final straw.
As for now, I think Jack has complete control of the locker room. He knows this is his last chance.

From afar, it seemed like Jack was kept soley for reason of not paying another HC. He hasnt done anything in the past 3 yrs that warrants him keeping his job IMO. Unless I missed something great he’s done. Haven’t the fans been calling for his head?

Red Zone?
I have some of the Jags preseason games and have noticed a couple of things. Though, I haven’t watched enough to know whether they are real issues:
1) It seems like Garrard is doing a good job throwing underneath but seems to struggle as he gets closer to the end zone. Do you have concerns about your red zone offense?
2) It also seems like the run blocking by the jags might have been a bit inconsistent this preseason, is that true from your perspective?
Thanks.
the more you practice the luckier you get
1) Absolutely it’s a concern. MJD is the offense in the red zone and when we’re too far out for him to get the job done, we’re in trouble. There have been way too many turnovers in the red zone and the preseason did nothing to make me feel better about it.
2) No it wasn’t really that inconsistent. It was consistently bad. I don’t think there’s too many people concerned because this is kind of an annual thing. There was a lot of shuffling on the first team interior line in the preseason. They’re really not the best group on the interior line and it’s a position that needs to be addressed, but I’d expect the run game to look a lot better for the regular season.

I have looked a lot at the Jags offense this year
Outside of the great ability of MJD, I just didn’t see much ability to make key plays from the passing game, both from Garrard and the receivers. What is the plan in Jacksonville to avoid a one sided offense similar to St. Louis with Steven Jackson?
I am a bear of very little brains and big words bother me.

Dillard
Being one of the rare NFL talents from my alma mater, I’m interested in how Dillard was progressing. Knowing the WR core there has been, um, a work in progress for a few years, is he filling space, or one that you are counting on for the future? Also, is he out temporarily, or IR’d for the year? Thanks for taking the time to camp out here awhile!
I expects very much out of him
this year. He is a ‘catch maschine’ in long (10+ yard passes). Maybe the second best WR in the team (IMO). He is someone Denver must keep an eye on him.

I'm curious....
what Jacksonville fans think about their drafting over the past 5-6 years? I’m a big draft/prospects guy and it seems like there’s been a lot of more misses than hits, especially with early round picks. Guys like Reggie Williams, Matt Jones (ouch), Justin Durant, and Quentin Groves have been complete busts. Guys like Leftwich, Barnes, Nelson, Harvey and Lewis have been solid starters at some point but not stars. It really seems like MJD is the only star that’s been drafted with MSW having potential to join MJD as a star or at least on the solid starters list. It’s hard to judge the 2009 picks and impossible to judge the 2010 picks but I’m hesitant about Monroe, Britton, and Alualu.
I’m wondering what Jax fans are saying about this. I don’t mean for this post to be inflammatory as I know drafts are always a delicate subject with fans (just ask me how I feel about Alphonso Smith right about now), but are fans blaming Smith for these picks? Or Del Rio? Or both? I don’t know the draft room dynamic of the Jags which is why I’m asking and how this might lead to a new front office/coach in the near future if the Jags don’t perform up to expectations this season. Also, do you believe that the Jags may have “pressed” a little too hard to try and fill both sides of the lines in the past three years instead of simply taking the best players available? I won’t lie but it was a little startling as a draft fan to see the Jags go DE/DE with a tradeup in 2008, OT/OT/DT in 2009, then DT/DT again in 2010. Do you think Indy being in that division has made the team go with draft day decisions that were a bit short-sighted or really were the best moves to be made?
The Shack Harris era(2003-08)
was considered a dark age when it comes to drafting. From the 6 first round picks only 2 (Marcedes Lewis; Harvey) is with the team. He screwed a lot of drafts in my opinion. The 2008 season was a disiaster We had 11 picks- he drafted 5 players; 4 of them are gone….
He had only 1 elite draft -2006: Lewis; MJD; Ingram.
The new era with Gene Smith so far a success story. 15 picks all with team; Last year the first 4 picks started almost every game. Although I have concerns with 1-2 players(Britton; Cox;) it is a major upgrade. This year’s 1st pick’s (Alualu) performance will be key. 8;5 out of 10 people thinks he was a reach. But if he turns outto be a great player; nobody will chaleenge Gene Smith for a while.

Play calling
I watched the Jags a lot last year because I had MJD on my fantasy team. I found myself frustrated with the play calling in that I noticed MJD would sometimes be forgotton about. I felt he’s a stud and should be force fed the ball at every opportunity but he went long periods without touching it. If I remember correctly he was frustrated as well with his lack of touches. I was wondering if you guys had the same observation. If the Jags get down early do they tend to abandon the run?
Excuse me, do these effectively hide my thunder?
Depends
This year it will be a new situation. OC Dirk Koetter will run this offense on his own. In the last years RB coach Pola; and TE coach Tice had major influence. hey wanted to run the ball more.
But Koetter is a pass 1st type of guy; so nobody knows what he is planning. Prepare for double TE formations; and a lot of pass plays

I just don’t understand how the Jags can be favored this weekend,
Because of the media coverage and unknowns
What people know is Marshall & Scheffler are gone. And they know the Broncos are more wounded then a civil war regiment.
All passes to Marshall & Scheffler will now fall on vacant land and the bandages, crutches, wheelchairs in the field will slow the remaining players.
So, of course…How could the Broncos win in those conditions?

yeah..... Scheffler was a stud on our team!
Don’t know what we will do without him!!!
Now that Royal is effective in the his new position (the slot), and Orton isn’t targeting just one receiver…. not sure how he’s going to do it.
Also, the new 1st team run defense is looking horrible only giving up 1 big play this preseason.
The offensive line has shown a lot of promise against premier players… so the concern has just amplified!
Also, our defensive backs are getting older but still how the same talent…. I’m very worried!
I’m not worried against Jacksonville, no offense. My crystall ball keeps saying 21-10 Denver.
daaayuuuuum! you gonna take that KB?!? lol -Broncs55

In fairness to Jacksonville
I suspect they’ll be better this year. They seem to have done a few things to improve their team.
Having said that, having a weak secondary against the Broncos doesn’t bode well for them.

Not sure if you are being sarcastic...
But if you are, don’t forget we have also ADDED players as well. We are injured, this is true. I don’t think we are any more or less so than any other team in the NFL right now though. I guess we’ll all find out come Sunday. Like Ray-Ray said, the game ain’t played with the mouth, it’s played once you buckle up that chin strap. I just look forward to a competitive game, with us coming out on top, and no more new injuries for either team.
I'm not a complete idiot, some pieces are missing.
To be honest
I’m not really sure how that worked out either. Granted I think the Jaguars are going to win, but the media has done nothing but project us as a top 5 draft pick.

It seems a stretch....
Since no one has seen the Denver D, not have they seen the Denver O. I really think the hullabaloo is rather touching, but I think there is a real game on. I would not be surprised if the loudest cheer of the day will be for Tebow when he completes his first pass….
The Jags fans are falling for the MSSM BS……
The loudest cheer of the day will not be for Tebow
Not even close. That’ll be the loudest boo of the day if anything. I don’t think y’all realize how much Jaguar fans hate that guy.

I'll take a stab at the question...
Because he plays for the Broncos? :-)

Fixt.

That would only make sense if we wanted him prior to the draft
We didn’t. None of us did. Check the archives if you don’t believe.

It was the endless mindless drabble from everyone saying that he would be taken by the Jaguars
It was never really Tebow’s fault as he never did anything wrong. But it was everyone saying he’d save the franchise and that he’d sell out the stadium that just got old. He’s not a good QB prospect. Period. Sorry if that offends you guys as Broncos fans, but our GM determined that he was clearly not worth the 10th pick and I really, really doubt he would’ve determined him to be worth a 2nd round pick. The fact that talking heads such as Kiper and Mayock would believe that the Jaguars would just forego the fact that he has obvious flaws in his passing technique because of what college he went to was infuriating.
That’s why in the months prior to the draft all of us over at BCC continued to tell everyone that it wouldn’t happen and when it didn’t, everyone still acted shocked. Jaguar fans never wanted Tebow. Gator fans did and that sucks for them.

I'm glad your GM determined it the way he did.
Now we have the next big thing in the NFL, IMHO.
And that sucks for you.
He’s not perfect, but everyone that comes in contact with him says the kid is special. That has to mean something. There have been other quarterbacks to play in the NFL that didn’t have the perfect techniques to suit the talking heads, as you also call them, and Tebow will be no different.
I don’t expect him to ever be a Tom Brady or a Peyton Manning. He will probably never be that quarterback. No, he has the potential to do something that is different from the norm and most people don’t think whatever that is will be very succesful, well I don’t see any reason it won’t be. Don’t count your chickens kind of thing.
Tebow is already the number one jersey in the NFL. The kid inspires and people like that and flock to him because of it like moths to a flame. There is an electricity about him that I haven’t felt since Elway left. I did not say he is or will ever be John Elway. But the FEELING is pretty much the same. I don’t know what else to tell you. See ya sunday.

Interesting
I can understand how you guys would get sick of the chatter. Especially when Tebow was concerned, considering how much attention he was getting as an individual. Annoying for sure.
I wonder though, when you say he’s “not a good QB prospect. Period”, have you seen him play in the pre-season at all?
If not, his play would suggest that he indeed a good QB prospect, so you might want to ease up on the definitive declarations. See, it’s early. Nobody really knows yet, but we Bronco fans have seen enough to be encouraged about the QB prospect that is Tim Tebow.
FYI, John Elway also had obvious flaws (patting the ball) in his passing technique, as have other successful NFL QBs. Perfect passing technique isn’t the end-all, be-all. If it was, Ryan Leaf would hold many NFL records.
That same GM you mention also determined that Tyson Alualu WAS worth the 10th pick, an evaluation that many Jags fans and others have heavily questioned, as has been admitted in this post. So, perhaps keeping a little perspective there would be helpful.
Jags fans may not have wanted him, but you may end up regretting it. Time will tell, but we’re encouraged.
