Darrelle Revis won't be hurt by holding out on Jets, Rex Ryan - Jerome Bettis - SI.com
Holding out through August isn't going to be a huge deal for Darrelle Revis. Whenever you miss time in training camp, it's naturally going to hurt from a conditioning standpoint, but with Revis' shut-down abilities, it's not much of a problem. There's really only one fear early in the season: Conditioning. To be an elite cornerback, you need to be in superior shape. Revis won't be in football shape at first, so Anquan Boldin, Randy Moss and even Brandon Marshall may not be stranded on Revis Island the first three weeks, but the Jets don't need to worry.

Make My Day
You are really fast, John. I am usually up at 5 a.m. MT and like to get my daily dose of HorseTracks as soon as possible to start my day. So, I just want to thank you for your diligence in getting it out so early. The Broncos will be fine this year. I predict that they will be at least 10-6. I never predict an upper limit, so this is my bottom line prediction.
Go Broncos. Let the regular season begin (finally).
Thank you!
Always excited to read some Broncos articles before having to leave for college.
At least I have the MHR Radio podcast today during the commute. :D

Wow.
I started to read a couple articles – just because I had the time – and my eyes just kept gravitating towards the horrible grammar and lame puns. I don’t know why I keep forgetting that it doesn’t take good writing to get a job/column in mainstream media, just writing that’s interesting and intelligible enough for the masses to fight over.
I mean, my writing is not much better – but then i’m not getting paid to do it either

Of course
McNabb is practicing with the Redskins again. Of course he will play against the Cowgirls.
What is hard to believe is that a member of the MSM (can’t remember who) would say, “Mike Shanahan doesn’t strike me as the kind of guy who would use an injury as a smokescreen.” Really? Then you don’t know Mike Shanahan AT ALL, do you? LMAO
In good times and bad times, I'm a Bronco fan. Sucka.
oh
and thanks for the tracks! Excited to watch our first week’s worth of regular season pre-game press conferences!

Will Terrance Cody ever play?
I liked the idea of him — glad no one in our FO agreed with me.
too bad about MJD, I would much rather not have to deal with him
Thanks, John
I’m checking in aroung 6am MST these days. It’s insane that Horse Tracks is always waiting. Helps me to scratch the Broncos itch and go about my day. I am indebted.
I liked Payton Hillis just fine, but may we never draft another white RB again! The Hillis worshipers still can’t let him go.
He was/is vastly more popular in Denver than his brief Bronco career should merit.

Well
We essentially traded Hillis for Quinn straight up (maybe a 2011 7th rounder was thrown in) and we have essentially no depth at the RB position so it’s easy to be a monday morning QB about this trade. I still say I would rather have Hillis than Brady Quinn

You’re dead right on the returns so far. But backup QB was a position of real need, and we couldn’t anticipate the decimiation of the RB corps by injury this year. The relevant issue is whether fans would be this beside themselves if the Broncos shipped out Ryan Torain or even Buck. I’m very comfortable answering no.
This issue comes up with Eric Decker, too. He’s the back-up slot receiver and he plays a shorter, tougher game. But he’s being compared over and over to Ed McCaffrey, who was the deep man — the Demaryius Thomas — on his teams.
would this even be an issue
if white was still pounding it in from 2 yards out and not injured?
just the same recycled controversy swirling around 4 former players.
to the future! Go Broncos!

I think it still would be an issue. Doesn't change the way people feel about Hillis and why.
But, yes, to the future! Is it Sunday yet? I feel like a kid counting down the days till Christmas.
Go Broncos.
Fair point but how about looking at it this wy
I’d rather have Brady Quinn as this year’s backup than Chris Simms. (Esp since I’m probably in the minority here but I don’t want Tebow as #2 QB yet, I think I’d rather him spend the year learning and maybe getting in occasional game action.) They needed a backup QB, Quinn is adequate. With RB injury problems it’s easy to second guess the Hillis trade but it’s also hard to avoid seeing that McDaniels’ staff had lost interest in him. Fair or not (and we don’t know the ins and outs).

Thing was he did some special things in short yardage...
I still remember the time a safety for SD came up to make a tackle and literally bounced off his thigh. Let me put it this way, he showed way more “flashes” and actually produced at the NFL level on game day, than Phonz ever did. Yet you still have Phonz disciples on these boards. Is Phonz white? He also showed an ability to catch the ball, and had over 100 yards receiving against the Fins and had over a hundred yards rushing against a pretty good team (can’t remember which one).
The truth is he had some skills in short yardage as good as and better than many of the short yardage specialists kept by other teams. He also had good hands for an outlet receiver. I have no doubt that he been given enough touches and stayed health that he could have gained 1000 yards. Now, there are a lot of backs that are capable of getting a 1000 yards. There are other backs who are better receivers not due to their hands but speed after the catch. The other reality is there are few “power backs” who start in the NFL anymore. At one time there were quite a few and people loved them as well. Bettis is an example and, he was not white, but people loved his power running style. How about Okoye as an example of another non-white power back people got juiced about? There is something viscerally satisfying about seeing a big back flatten someone. If the tables were turned and it was mostly power backs in the NFl, then the “skat back” or “speed back” would have people drooling.
The reality is he could have helped the team last year and this year if McD did not have a thing against him. He sat in McD’s doghouse for mistakes a lot longer than Moreno did for the same exact mistakes. However, not using Hillis last year did not hurt us as much as McD ignoring Royal. Not having Hillis this year will not hurt the broncos as much as other mistakes McD and the coaching staff are bound to make this year. Not a slam on them, just as a coach sometimes you look back and mistakes were made and they hurt the team.
