ESPN's 3 Things needed to win
Denver Broncos: Three things
http://espn.go.com/blog/afcwest/post/_/id/16684/denver-three-things
By Bill Williamson Three things Denver needs to work on this week in preparation for Sunday’s opener at Jacksonville:
Dominant in the passing game: The best thing Denver has going for it going into the season is quarterback Kyle Orton. He had an outstanding preseason and he has a nice rhythm going with his receivers. With the Denver running game banged up and uncertain headed into the Jaguars game, the Broncos will have to win in the air. Contain the run: The Broncos had the No. 3 pass defense in the NFL last season. But their run defense struggled down the stretch. The Jaguars can run the ball pretty well with Maurice Jones-Drew. He had 1,391 yards on the ground last season. He can wear defenses down. Denver’s front seven, starting with nose tackle Jamal Williams, must set the tone and not allow Jones-Drew to dictate the game on the ground.
Prepare for the heat: Sunday’s forecast in Jacksonville is 90 degrees and cloudy. The Broncos have struggled historically in Florida in the early season. The humidity can beat down teams. The Broncos must be mentally prepared for unpleasant conditions.
I agree with Bill (Now that is a first) But I think that our run game will be there as our stable of backs appear to be in game shape.
This should give us a real idea of what the identity of the 2010 Denver Broncos will look like. I really do not believe that the preseason told us much about the game plan or philosophy of our offense or defense.
Any thoughts?

Orton should come out of the gate throwing the pill.
I see Orton with over 350 yards and at least 2 touchdowns if not 3. He needs to hit the short passes 90% of the time and needs to let the ball fell some air also. Keep Jacksonville off balance all day long.
Knowshon and Buck need to help keep things in balance, but if Orton gets off to a great start, the running lanes will open late in the game for our RB’s.
Williamson is right about Jamaal. He needs to take on 2 blockers all day long. Bannan and McBean will take on the rest and our ILBers will make tackles in the back field. My best concern is our OLBers. There need to make sure that they contain and push the ball carrier back to the inside.
Our ST’s need to be mistake free, and come up with some good field position.

Stopping the run
will be the key to this happening. If we dont have the ball, it will be hard to throw for that many yards.
Denver has to get out to a lead early
If Orton can lead an opening TD drive than I think Denver has a good shot.
THIS^^^......This scenario would lead us right where we want to be.
I think the reverse ( getting down by 14 points) would lead the Jags to just ram the ball down our throats all day…a really short game for our offense.
I don't think our running game will be anywhere where we need it.
Moreno can’t possibly be sharp after missing the entire TC, Buckhalter is an ankle injury away from IR, Brown hasn’t been on the team long enough to learn the playbook/scheme/system. That could leave us with Lance Ball? Ouch with a double O! I guessing Kyle’s arm will get a good workout this Sunday.
The heat might not be as big a factor than the heat index, temp/humitiy, that could be a killer especially coming from the Rockies. These 2 areas have me concerned for this game and if we can sqeek by with a win I’ll be doublely happy…
At the same point...
if Jacksonville is playing the pass all day we should be able to run the ball effectively. Even if we have to run by committee. I would think if all 5 RB’s are active on game day that Moreno and Buckhalter are not 100%, or even 90%.
Lance Ball said from his grandma's funeral that only Brown was out...
I wouldn’t expect too much from Moreno even if he played. Bucky and Ball with most of the carries I suspect…
Or maybe it's...
While attending his Grandma’s funeral back east, Lance Twitted that only Andre Brown would be out of this week’s game…
If we start hydrating now, the heat becomes as much mental as it is physical. Be really smart with substitutions and control the ball. Best thing to do would be to build a big lead through the air and then you don’t have to worry about getting worn down at the end of the game.

3 Things Needed to Win:
1) A beer
2) Nachos
3) Broncos game
If you have those things right there… you’re already a winner!

The Broncos have struggled historically in Florida in the early season.
My god is that true….It’s like a curse.

Of course,
I believe it should read more like: Historically, the Broncos have struggled when playing early season games in Florida.
Why can’t I get paid to write for ESPN? Apparently you don’t need any writing skills.

Start writing for the Denver Post
It seems to be an foolproof pipeline to ESPN – Schefter and Williamson, back to back. And you don’t even have to know anything about football. (Schefter being the exception.)
You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say will be misquoted and then used against you.

…which, I imagine, is why no one else did either :p
Not that I don’t agree with him either. It just feels unnatural.
