Agentj's Week 1 NFL Power Rankings
| Rank | 2009 Record | Team | Comments |
| 1 | 13-3 | Saints | They haven't changed much and they beat up the Colts in the Super bowl |
| 2 | 14-2 | Colts | This team hasn't changed much either. As long as Peyton Stays healthy this team is a contender |
| 3 | 11-5 | Packers | I have the Packers taking the cake, but until the season starts I can't rank them higher than the two superbowl reps. |
| 4 | 9-7 | Ravens | The Ravens have an offense and Flacco is taking the next step |
| 5 | 12-4 | Vikings | The Vikings look incerdibly vulnerable with Favre's health at age 40. As long as he is playing healty they are a legit contender to make it back the NFC championship game. |
| 6 | 9-7 | Jets | The best defense in the NFL. The best running team in the NFL. Sanchez has to take a step forward for this team to climb up the rankings. |
| 7 | 9-7 | Texans | This is the year the Texans make the playoffs. They are good on both sides of the ball and now have the ability to match the Colts offense. The defensive players have started to mature. |
| 8 | 13-3 | Chargers | Still a top notch offensive team they should take the AFC west. |
| 9 | 10-6 | Patriots | The Pats have slipped and will be more challenged in their division with eh Jets and Dolphins. As long as Brady is thealthy they will be able to win a majority of their games. |
| 10 | 8-8 | 49ers | The 49ers are coming around. They have a top notch defense and a new O-line to help the running game and sustain drives. Only the QB will hold them back. |
| 11 | 11-5 | Cowboys | The Cowboys have shown some serious discpline issues on defense and the O-line in their preseason games. If Tony Romo gets that much preseaure in the regular season this team could be 8-8 |
| 12 | 10-6 |
Bengals |
They still have a very good defense and can run the ball. With new WRs Palmer could make take the passing game up a notch. |
| 13 | 11-5 | Eagles | This team has a lot to prove. They have lost their leader in Donovan McNabb. Kolb has looked the part at times, but we'll have to wait and see. |
| 14 | 8-8 | Titans | This team can do a lot of things well. Vince Young has to step up for this team to go anywhere. He looks like he may have turned the maturity corner (on the field). |
| 15 | 7-9 | Dolphins | With Henne in his second year and better targets the Miami should be a playoff contender. This is a tough team. |
| 16 | 9-7 | Falcons | I am just not feeling it with the Falcons. They seem to keep taking a step backwards. Matt Ryan doesn't look like he is ready to take the next level as many have predicted. |
| 17 | 8-8 | Broncos | As of now I just don't know what this team will do. Orton looks like he is trying to elevate his game and do more things with his feet and accuracy. Problem is his new O-line and WRs may take awhile to gel. The Defense looks very similar to last year. Great pass defense. Lousy run defense. The running game is still up in the air. A lot has to come together for this team to win. |
| 18 | 7-9 | Bears | Until I see otherwise I think that the Bears are going to be great one week and aweful the next week. Most of this revolves around Jay Cutler. The more constent he is the more consistent the Bears will be. They should finish right around 8-8 unless Cutler has a light go off in the Martz system. |
| 19 | 4-12 | Redskins | McNabb's healt is the issue here. Very similar situation as the Vikings. If McNabb can stay healthy this team will quikcly rise in the rankings. |
| 20 | 2-14 | Lions | Stafford and company are looking capable of winning games. I think they come up a bit from the bottom of the barrel. |
| 21 | 8-8 | Panthers | This team lost a defensive star and may be starting a rookie QB. |
| 22 | 8-8 | Giants | The Giants look like a mess and very inconstitent. Eli will have to carry this team. He isn't that kind of QB. |
| 23 | 7-9 | Jaguars | The running game looks good. The defense doesn't scare anybody. |
| 24 | 5-11 | Seahawks | Too many holes for Hasselback to lead this team out of the basement. |
| 25 | 10-6 | Cardinals | The Cards are headed back to the basement post Warner. You really begin to appriciate how good he was the last couple of years to carry this team. |
| 26 | 9-7 | Steelers | Without Ben this team could start 0-4. |
| 27 | 5-11 |
Browns |
Holmgreen has the team playing better. Let's see how the first copule of games go. |
| 28 | 5-11 | Raiders | With Campbell the Raiders could be decent and avoid the double digit losses for the first time in seven years. |
| 29 | 4-12 | Chiefs | The Chiefs need leadership from Cassel. |
| 30 | 6-10 | Bills | No O-line. No QB. Should have taken Tebow or Clausen in the Draft. Spiller will give some highlight reel runs to keep fans interested though. |
| 31 | 3-13 | Buccaneers | This team has a lot of young talent that needs to be developed. |
| 32 | 1-15 | Rams | They triple their wins and get 3. |

This is dumb...
Haven’t you seen ESPN??? The raiders and chiefs are way better than the broncos…lol. I’m pretty high on the packers as well.

I really think ESPN has their heads up something
I can’t agree with their rankings half of the time. They always have the Cowboys and Steelers ranked too high.
Well they are Americas team(s).

Just curious about your quarterback analogy.
The Vikings look incredibly vulnerable with Favre’s health. If he gets knocked out of the lineup the Vikings aren’t a top 10 team.
If Brees, Manning, Rodgers, Rivers, or Brady get hurt are there teams top 10?
I realize that a lot has been made of Brett’s ankle. I haven’t seen it affect his pre-season play. But the media has put it out there as an issue. But I will take the Vikings defense against the Packers defense. Many are impressed with the Packers offense. Me too. But they are really hurting at LB and DBs. If defense wins championships you have them rated to high.

That goes for any teams' field general as it goes.
That’s why it is so important to have a solid OLine to protect him.
I guess I worded it a little generic
Favre is 40 and is a high risk to be out for multiple games. The other QBs are less of a health risk. could have probabley ledft out the obvious top 10 statement. I’ll take that out.
Q for lifelongvike
How is your O line looking? Especially McKinnie?
Take it easy, but take it. Studs Terkel
Well we haven't seen them yet.
Our center got a calf injury two days into TC. He will probably start Thursday but is he in shape? Who knows. So all preseason the Vikes have been experimenting with two new centers and other players. McKinney has looked fine except for one complete Whiff that ended up in a Farve sack. The whiff was caused by the new center although McKinnie got blamed.
I believe in the O-Line for one reason. Our FO made no move to upgrade this year. We drafted a guard in the 5th round that will be our back-up guard. But that is it. So if they believe. I believe.
Last year Hutchison was injured and played through it. This year all look healthy, now.

Nice Job
Here’s my top 10.
1. Saints (I always think defending champ should be #1 headed into season until proven otherwise)
2. Packers
3. Chargers (As much as it pains me)
4. Vikings
5. Colts (I think this is the year they fall off a little bit)
6. Broncos (Why, because I love them)
7. Jets (I still am not buying their greatness yet. Offense leaves a lot to be desired)
8. Titans (They will be dangerous)
9. Ravens (Yikes the secondary)
10. Bengals (T.O. and Ocho get along, for now)

I have a feeling the Chargers are going to implode this year especially in December.
They have been nearly unbeatable in December for a few years now and as we all know, good things must come to an end…And this is the year.
Here's My Top 15
1. Saints
2. Packers
3. Colts
4. Jets
5. Vikings
6. Ravens
7. Bengals
8. Texans
9. Patriots
10. 49ers
12. Broncos (Tied with the Chargers as I think the Broncos are on the upward path)
12. Chargers (may have had a better record last year but I think they are on the decline)
13. Cowboys
14. Titans
15. Eagles

agreed
The middle of the pack is kinda hard to tell in the early stages of the season, but I think we are better than the majority of those teams listed between 10-17.
Although time will tell. The only stat that matters is the score board at the end of the game.

Pretty good
It will be interesting to see how the Texans do this year. Their offense is one of the best in the league and they should have a good running game this year too. If their D is good, then yeah I could see them doing some damage.
Teams I think you have ranked too high: 49ers (still have tons of QB questions), Eagles (waaay too young and again questionable at QB), Lions (they’re still the Lions).
Teams I think you have ranked too low: Cowboys (should be a top 5 team imo), Bengals (good team in virtually all positions, should be even better on D this year), Falcons (should have a much better D as well), Giants (they’re not as bad as everyone is saying), Steelers (still the Steelers, definatly better than teams like the Bears, Jags, Panthers, etc.), Raiders and Chiefs, sadly.
Stiff 4 Life
cowboys top 5?
You didn’t watch any of their preseason games. They looked awfull. I mean REAL bad. They aren’t even top 10. Hell, they might not make #16 in my book.
Yes, they looked that bad.

As the Broncos so are most of the other teams in preseason...
Most are trying a lot of unknowns and the whole story won’t unfold until it counts…I’m hoping they are bad, them and Pittsturd!
A different list
Instead of listing the teams in order from top to bottom, I have two lists: Most overrated, and most underrated.
Most Overrated Teams:
The Ravens: Yeah, they have found an offense, I won’t argue there. The problem is their defense, which was exposed last year. The Ravens D is suffering from a combination of age and mediocrity. Can the O score enough points to make up? I have my doubts.
The Jets. Yes, they have a good D. Yes, they have the RB that I wish we had drafted. Beyond that, does anyone really remember how much they stunk for most of last season? If Sanchez makes tremendous progress, they might be good. I have my doubts about Sanchez, though, and will be surprised if he can stay healthy.
The Cowboys. Talent wise, I just don’t see them as an elite team. I also see signs of dysfunction developing on both sides of the ball. I do expect them to challenge for the NFC East title, but I am not one of those who sees the NFC East as an elite division.
The Colts. Yes, Manning is still behind center, but for the first time last year he looked human at times. Age eventually catches up with everyone, and if PM declines, so will the Colts.
The Patriots. If ever a team was riding on reputation rather than talent, it would be the Pats. I will be surprised if they get past Miami this year.
Most underrated teams:
The Bengals. Combine a stout defense, strong running game, and a Carson Palmer who finally looks healthy and has someone to throw to and you have a winning combination. Remember, they swept their division last year, and imho look stronger this year.
The Texans. Overall, this is a very solid team at every facet. Their big weakness in the past was getting past the Colts, but I believe that this is the year when they finally put that demon to rest.
The Lions. No, I don’t expect to see them in the post season, but I do expect them to move up into the middle of the pack. Their defense is much improved, and I see signs of life on offense. I fully expect them to move past Chicago, and be competitive most weeks.
The Redskins. The Skins lost most of their games last year by 3 points or less, and that was with a horrible offense. Their defense is smothering, and Shanahan’s offense will make a huge difference. This could be the most improved team in the league, and I would not be surprised if they take the NFC East.
The Chiefs. KC has made progress in their rebuilding project, with an infusion of talent on both sides of the ball. If (as I expect) the Chargers stumble this year, it will come down to KC and Denver to decide the division winner.

I'm suprised Denver's not on your list as most underrated teams

I considered listing them
If you read or listen to the MSM, then Denver is definitely underrated, but around here not so much. I do think there are some issues with the Broncos that may (repeat, MAY) hold them back this year, but overall I see improvement from last year, even though we may get off to a slow start. I ended up listing the Chiefs because it seems that most have them as a bottom dweller again this year even though they came together pretty well late last year and should be better this year.
well, I listen to the MSM... I just don't hear them

Not a bad list
I would still keep the Colts up there, Manning will likely have a career as long as Favre’s, and he showed age didn’t slow him down. With the best WR’s Manning’s ever had and a great defense, it’s hard to say their overrated. I agree about the Jets, their offense is in shambles, but they do have a great, very solid defense. Ravens deserve their praise, a very talented offense, with a solid front seven, biggest weakness, secondary, hardly overrated.
As for underrated, I like Schaub and Johnson, but other then them and a handful of other players, this team is lacking in a lot of key areas, and they are more inconsistent then almost any other team in the league. I agree people are down on the Bengals despite losing no real key pieces and bringing in more talent, they aren’t SB contenders just yet, but I believe they could make a deep playoff run. I think the Lions win closer to .500 then most expect, but playing against the Packers and Vikings twice a season isn’t easy for any team. The Redskins could go 9-7 or 10-6, but it will require a lot of luck, and some big plays by McNabb. Until Cassel shows he can lead that team, I don’t see them coming above 8-8.
I am a bear of very little brains and big words bother me.
I like it
I think your assessment of the Broncos is pretty accurate. It’s just tinted with enough orange to pass MHR muster, but realistic enough that you retain credibility. Good work!
by GJcontingent-rAd on Sep 7, 2010 3:49 PM MDT reply actions
Not bad
I think you are overrating a weak offensive team in the Jets, and I think the Texans are to inconsistent to be true contenders. I’d also move the Giants up, Manning had a fantastic season last season, and showed he could lead the team himself with the running game a mess. With both backs returning, it comes down to line play, and while they might struggle early, they have some key players, as well as their coach, fighting for their jobs. Other then that, nice list.
I am a bear of very little brains and big words bother me.
My pet peeve...
is that having the Jets at the low end of the top ten is considered rating them ‘fairly’. There has been no greater case to be made for the east-coast (particularly NY) bias in sports reporting than this offseason. The Jets finally win a couple playoff games and now they’re Super Bowl contenders? Give me a break. Sure, they finished strong, but that doesn’t change the fact that they still didn’t have a winning record in the regular season and their top player missed the whole of camp and the preseason.

Good list
But take it from a Broncos fan in Raiders coutntry, Jason Campbell is not a good QB. He struggles to make it through his progressions and rarely finds the open receiver. There is a reason why the Redskins dumped him. It just doesn’t seem like the game has ever slowed down for him. He may be an upgrade over the Hut, but so would a jar of mayonnaise. I honestly can’t figure why the MSM thinks the Raiders, and even the Chiefs, are going to be so much improved this year.

I live in Virginia and not anywhere near Raiders’ country. Thank goodness.

agree about Campbell
imo, the only thing Campbell has going for him is that he is not J. Russell. But he isn’t very good.
