A calling out of the McGeorges (in a good way)
It's always a good thing to look at things from the otherside. It helps us keep perspective...change the tint on our "Rose Colored Glasses". Keep the world in balance. Yes, That is important! But my pupose here is not to divide, but to draw together the passoin we share as "TRUE" Broncos fans.
You see, I have been reading McGeorge's comments for a couple years now and though I don't necessarily agree with his views, I see beyond the comments, the anger, the disgust. As I think most others here will agree, we see the passion. He may not like what he see happening to the team, but he still has the passion for that team, The Broncos.
Why are we here? This is not the DPO posting an article so the nay-sayers can belittle the Broncos. This is where "TRUE" fans can express thier views of OUR team. We are here because to some degree we all have passion for the Broncos.
So now I am calling all of you out. You know who you are. It's time to turn the page. The past has gone and cannot be recalled. We have today and the future. And I for one believe it is bright.
Quick Analogy: Say you buy a house and it needs lots of repairs. There are 2 ways to go. The first way you take care of the "window dressing" and make everything look just fine. In the second way, you teardown the decay and useless to be rebuilt. In each case you can make the habitation acceptable. Of course the first method looks good to all the on-lookers from afar and the second appears to be in disarray. As time wears on, the first choice becomes stale and old and does not improve. On the other hand, the second choice is a set building blocks and standards for it's foundation to be set for years to come.
Let us as fans realize we see only snapshots of what is happening behind the scenes. But I for one feel my heart thump and my blood pressure rise when I hear our players talk. Not the "Coach Speak", but the stuff they say from the heart. You can hear it in their words. There is a confidence and an anticipation for the start of the new season.
Should we as fans... TRUE fans of the Denver Broncos not have the same confidence and anticipation of the very players we cheer for on Sundays?
I call out all of the McGeorges to stand behnd the teamwe all feel so passionate about.
(sorry for using you McGeorge....I do respect your views)

I guess I fall into that category
I really do love the Broncos, and I have my rose colored, kool-aid filled moments, but I’m just not built that way for full-time fandom. In a post I did a few months ago, I called for unity despite differing views of the world. I won’t regress, but I found a few nice quotes for that post that carry some weight:
“Criticism may not be agreeable, but it is necessary. It fulfills the same function as pain in the human body. It calls attention to an unhealthy state of things.” Winston Churchill
“Criticism, like rain, should be gentle enough to nourish a man’s growth without destroying his roots.” George Jean Nathan
“Perhaps the most important segment of our membership is the group that is learning, at any given time, that there is someplace safe where they can have an opinion on the Broncos. The value of this can’t be overestimated. When John (Bena) founded this blog, the Cutler-Plummer issue had driven a wedge into the online fan base, and online Broncos communities were being torn to shreds by these divisions. MHR is John’s dedication to the idea that Bronco’s fans are ultimately a team, and need to care enough about each other not to try and tear each other apart.
We start by valuing the Broncos. And that leads us to each other. That is what we must protect and hold on to.” Jeremy Bolander
I will, and have, strive to be open minded, but I will also call out those who might be so entrenched in their beliefs: take your face out of the kool-aid once in a while, and actually look at the world. If it’s scary, dive back in, no problem, but the biggest pet peeve, and the only one I have, is those who ignore the facts. It’s okay to think, “okay, well I think we’ll be different, break the mold, be the miracle team.” But don’t just brush off the truth because you don’t like it. My passion for this team and for the game is what drives my criticisms, it is what drives McDaniels to scream at his team, it is what drives players to be better, to rise to the occasion. If you never point out weaknesses, if you never lose your temper once in a while, if you never get pissed at your team, you aren’t a real fan in my opinion. Real passion for a team is a double-edge sword, you can’t claim to be passionate about your team if you only say the rosy things, real passion means you want the team to step up, it means you demand more, it means you love the team so much you hate to see it fail. Passion breeds pride, love, joy, anger, and despair, it isn’t a happy-go-lucky, laid back emotion. It is a roller coaster ride, one that isn’t always happy or easy.
I consider myself a realist, like I’m sure other like McG or Negative Nelly would consider themselves, but by nature of being a realist, I must support and be open minded to other ideas. It’s hard sometimes, but my greatest goal here, like our own Jeremy Bolander said so well, is to instruct, learn and grow in our football and Broncos knowledge. Unity and passion is what brings us together, and because of that passion, we won’t agree, get used to it, but that passion is what truly binds us together in the end.
I am a bear of very little brains and big words bother me.

I wish that those around the net,
particularly other SB Nation sites, that bash MHR as the bastion of la-la land would actually take the time to read posts like these…
Nothing annoys me more than seeing someone casually name drop MHR as a kool-aid-only zone on a place like the Denver Stiffs, for instance.

Well stated Drizzt...
If I have a beef with the coach or a player I won’t hesitate to blast their butts here…The difference between MHR and DP, DB posters is, most of the time all they want to do is gripe and bitch…It is good to blow off steam once in awhile, but to be a habitual griper or bitcher is a disease. That why I no longer discuss at BroncoDiscuss which I believe is now defunct and maybe rightly so. There were too many individuals who felt it was either their way or the highway…Well, it doesn’t work that way and everybody has an opinion and shouldn’t be blasted for it! Now if they continue with the rant then they should show just cause for the rant…Which usually is refuted with intelligent response from intelligent people…
It wasn't me I promise.
I would be proud to call MHR my home, if i didn’t hate your team so much:P
Now if you could only get rid of McG, it would be awesome:P
Disclaimer: Comments above are not meant to be taken with a grain of salt.
well isn't this whole fanpost then kind of contradicting this?
Someone is calling all of us fans to have the same view point and unite as Broncos fans.
In essence “to drink the kool aid”
I could really care less about any of this… I’m just a Broncos fan but to be honest
1)AZBroncos Calls all Fans to have the Same View Points and Love for the team
2)MHR fans get annoyed when people call this kool-aid land
3) Doesnt make sense to me

I don't have a problem with ANY of the regular cast around here
The differences we have and the discussions we have about those differences is what makes MHR the greatest Bronco fan site around, and I would not change a thing about it. I know that even if I am at 100% polar opposite of position with someone here,we can discuss, get input, and not be ridiculed for having an opinion. I have had my mind changed in here more than once, and thats the reason I love this place, and will be here with all my fellow Broncos fans, whether they drink the Kool-Aid, or nip the Brandy too much!
Lets tear this season up Broncos, 8-0 at home!!

What a great conversation starter, AZBF.
Personally, I’m an eternal optimist. I always try to see the positives in most every situation regarding the Broncos. However, there’s a part of me that seeks out the realist point of view.
Many times when I’m reading comments I’ll scan through and seek out the ones by those I consider to be resident realists. I appreciate their viewpoints because it gives me balance and allows me to temper my annoying optimism. A sort of watering down of the Kool Aid, if you will.
I may not always agree with everything they say, but I dig the fact that MHR has several of those anchors in its membership that keep us grounded in reality. If it weren’t for those points of view, MHR would be an intolerably “happy-go-lucky” place, and I don’t think I would enjoy it as much.

I guess I sparked some deep feelings
With my 1st attempt at posting.
I was a Shanahan supporter all the way back to the Dan reeve’s era and with cutler, I tried to look at the talent and believe time would bring maturity. But that’s all water under the bridge, not to be forgotten, but rather used for perspective. Those teams that preceeded the current regime were very talented, but did not play as a team.
Today’s team being built as a team and from my perspective (though I don’t understand all the moves) I like the direction.

I don't always agree with what McX do
…But often times I find myself playing Devil’s advocate vs. those whose (it seems to me) knee-jerk pessimism is so pervasive as to be entirely predictable.
I think that happens a lot here: some of us will appear to overvalue certain decisions made by the Broncos FO and coaching staff because we want to make sure that the thinking of the decision makers is accurately portrayed and explained — which comes across as acting as McD apologists. But that’s because very rarely, I’d argue, are moves made by McD because, he hopes to destroy the team and tear down a world-class foundation to satiate his own giant ego; or because he doesn’t understand football as well as some guy using a silly name in the comments on a fan site.
McGeorge’s negativity can be trying. But he backs up his positions to the extent he can. There are a few others here who are far more of a problem, and who bring the kind of Denver Post commenter mentality that most of here would just rather not expose ourselves to.

I totally agree with this post.
This is what makes us here at the MHR true fans. We all have are differances in opinion but at the end of the day we all bleed the orange and blue. Whether its negative or postive we all as bronco fans come out of each fanpost, fanshot, or main story come a better fan for our differances.

Another house analogy
Say you pay someone to remodel your house. They start with the kitchen. They install faulty plumbing (Alphonso Smith) and charge you an arm and a leg for it (the 14th pick in the draft). You complain, so they go to the cheapest store in town (Detroit) and get some putty (a 7th round draft pick and unheralded tight end) to fix it. Are you happy?
;)
I want the Broncos to succeed. I like some of what I’ve seen from McD the coach, but I’m still awaiting the offensive genius to shine through. I think the jury is definitely out on McX as a GM tandem.

Fair points
and to some degree I tend to side with the critics more than the kool-aiders. That said, every coach/GM combo makes mistakes (Daryl Gardiner, Dale Carter, that former Charger receiver who’s name escapes me at the moment, etc.). I’ve come to the point where I don’t take it so personally (for lack of a better word) anymore and view it for the entertainment that it is. I always go into a season hopeful, but concerned (this year it’s the O-line and our ability to stop the run – I’m wondering if Jamal Williams still has it). We’ll see – as the old saying goes, that’s why they play the game.
Go Broncs!
It's "just" football
I was gonna say...
What if your house is just always on the cusp of being “one fix-up away” from being perfect. But you keep bringing in subcontractors who are ex-cons with drug problems and 35 kids to support? All while bringing in a bunch of guys from the not-very-successful renovator in Cleveland? And all you can do is watch while all the kids from the neighborhood run right through you renovators and bust off 20 and 30 yard runs, only being stopped because Champ Bailey is…..oh wait, what?

I thought it was time for Shanny to go. Probably past time, sadly. Unfortunately, I do see some of the same problems with McX the GM as I did with Shanny the defacto GM. And I thought that Bowlen was trying to go in a different direction and separate the two positions?

I agree.
As much as I hated the day it happened, I felt Shanny had just been here too long. But I also thought we were going to see a much more separated Coach/GM structure, and it seems those lines are increasingly blurred.

exactly.
i don’t see a way around it though. i actually agree with parcels on the whole “if you want me to cook dinner, at least let me pick out the groceries” thing. if you trust an nfl coach (that’s a big if) then it’s hard for me to see how some relatively disengaged joe (GM) who’s not staying up til 4 in the morning every night rewriting his own playbook could make better personnel decisions for his offense and defense.
my main question with shanny was his “friends and family” program, which seems to be healthy and strong in the new regime.
in all fairness...
same could be said for McD right? Isn’t his brother a part of the staff?

here we go again...
The debate between both camps, those who are optimistic about the current team and future…and those that are pessimistic about the current team and future. Why is it so bad or so much of a problem that both exist here? I just don’t get it. It is the nature of life and trying to eradicate one or the other will never work. Best to let both exist in a friendly and civil way. The thing you have to watch out for are the extremists to either side…those are the culprits in most of the drama that happens here. But I like to think of it like Yin/Yang…balance. One cannot exist without the other. Light/Dark, male/female, good/evil. It is because one exists that the other does as well and life just wouldn’t be as fun and interesting if we all were the same. Let’s get over ourselves and enjoy some good-natured debate.
And by the way, my beliefs fluctuate. I go back and forth between optimism and pessimism. I’ve not held much hope for the Broncos the last few years, including the end of the Shanny years. I do see some light at the end of the tunnel, but am just not ready to proclaim the Broncos on the verge of greatness.

AzBroncoFan, you must be feeling a llittle frustrated.
It is difficult to give an analogy without irritating somebody somewhere, which I don’t mean at all to do…. but it feels a little like the repeated attempts at peace in the Middle East; the initiator of the talks brings both sides together to work out their differences and they use the opportunity to spend more time marking the boundries of their differences with impenetrable walls. Oh well……GO BRONCOS!!!!
LOL
I’ve said this before but I firmly believe that some people are here primarily to promote themselves first, and talk football second. So they intentionally seek to be irritating because it gets everyone talking about them, and their opinion.
This implies that they feel their opinion is superior to, or more important than everyone else’s. We all have our point of view on the direction of this team, like all fans. Some of us agree, some disagree but there’s no reason to be brutal or domineering about it. Nothing said here is going to change anything and if any of us were good enough to run an NFL team someone would have called us before the season started.
In the end we’re all fans, and even though we’re all relatively anonymous here there’s no reason we can’t be friends too. All most of us want is for the Broncos to win and to have fun discussing the possibilities. And when they don’t win we will all have our opinions about what’s wrong, but I don’t see why everyone can’t be civil and adult about it. This place is supposed to be FUN.
But if you need someone to stroke your ego and tell you that you’re right about everything you don’t need me, and you really don’t even need MHR. What you need is to get a dog, or a parrot, or a really submissive spouse.
Or just sit in front of a mirror and talk to yourself.
You're either a fan or you're not.

Year 2 of the McDaniels era is ahead.
With a few chinks in the armour (dinged up O-line and RB, run D), the men of Denver suit up for another grueling fall and winter of battle. Every army starts out the same (0-0), and only those skilled enough and strong enough will fight beyond the schedule (playoffs).
Our Little General learned A LOT last year while earning several scars (KC/Oak) and badges of courage (Dal/NE). His confidence will soar this year as his field commander (Orton) has a year of battle experience under the Little General to lead his men to victory.
The time is upon us. Bring on the felines of Florida. Mount your steeds and draw your swords, for another epic season of battle is upon us. Let’s prepare for some cat stew.
