Prognostications (MHR Staff Members Pick Week 1 Winners)
This is the time of year when NFL fans all across the country, as they prepare for real life football, fantasy football leagues and office football pools begin the laborious process of prognostication on the likely outcomes of 16 football games (excepting of course on bye weeks). There are many ways that people have been known to attempt their predicting of the future in regards to an oblong, leather object and twenty-two manly men locked in what looks strangely like a cross be Greco-Roman wrestling, track sprints, hurdling and baseball pitching. People have been known to build elaborate spreadsheets into which copious statistics are entered in an attempt to calculate the final score. Others work from a "gut feeling." It would not surprise me particularly to discover that crystal balls, tarot cards, darts, dice, coin flips, and ouija boards are pulled out to make a determination of the future.
I once heard of a fan who had thirty-two plush footballs, emblazoned with the logos of each of the NFL teams. He would put them out two by two, according to the weekend games. Whichever one his dog picked up first, that was his pick for that game. Maybe we would be best served by simply closing our eyes and pointing at the names on a list. Whatever your method, it is a fun exercise for many fans as they attempt to win bragging rights around the water cooler. After the jump, you will find which teams were picked by eight MHR staff members. Please offer up your picks in the comments section.

Y'all should thank me. Just had my 2nd fantasy football draft
and had the 3rd pick. So I took MJD. So hey, if he goes off on the Broncos on Sunday, my FFB wins! But if my usual jinx happens, then that’s great for the Broncos. :-)
There's no need to fear, Underdog is here! / Broncos/Dodgers/Lakers fan in Niners/Raiders/Giants/Warriors country, and damned proud of it.
As Far
as MJD is concerned, JINX JINX JINX!

People keep liking the Texans
NOTHING wrong with that. I love the Texans. But they are not better than the Colts, even at home. Houston is a sexy pick because of their offense, but the Colts are not a good team to get in a shootout with. Houston’s secondary is weak, and Peyton will pick them apart all day.

Texans, even when they sucked, played the Colts hard at home....

I didn't see it as a sexy pick
Houston played them close in both games last year. Just gotta wonder when the Texans will make the breakthrough and win a 2nd game against the Colts

The defensive line for Houston always seems to pressure Manning and he'll make mistakes like anyone else if pressured.
Imagination is more important than knowledge. A. Einstein
He threw three picks against us
And still one. If anyone can win a game while still turning the ball over, it’s Manning.

Why? You should simply pick the team you think will win. It’s not hard.

Though I see a little higher score…say 32-24 Broncos.

My vote for boldest pick goes to Kirk for tabbing the men in black over Tenn on the road.
I’d be shocked if it pans out, but I’d have to give props if he is right.
I am wondering
For all of Jason Campbell’s issues he is the kind of player who can win you a couple random games. And for their other issues the Raiders have some solid under the radar players.
But on the other side, I don’t like to bet against a Jeff Fisher team. Even after their 0-6 start last season. Good risk though.

Don’t give him props. He’s wrong. Cable and Co will lose this game by 10+ points. They’ll lose a lot of games in 2010, like they always do.

I think it could happen
The Titans don’t have much going for them outside of Johnson, and the Raider offense should be able to put up enough points. I would vote Oakland for that game.
I am a bear of very little brains and big words bother me.
It could happen
Jokeland made some solid offseason moves, for once. I hate to say it but its hard to see them not being significantly better than last year.
Sooner or later, they ARE going to stop sucking. Now may be the time to start mentally preparing for this.

Jax 8
I think it’s going to be just that low scoring and wacky. I’ll let you decide how those numbers happen! lol
In good times and bad times, I'm a Bronco fan. Sucka.
My thought
I will take it 20-16 the Broncos giving up two first half field goals and a field goal and late TD in the second half.

I would be so happy and content with that outcome!

How about the first ever 2-0 NFL game with Denver winning after the Jaguars’ center snaps it over the head of the QB & he boots it out of the end zone to avoid a Broncos touchdown?

I'll bite
Denver scores three field goals and racks up a safety late in the third. Jacksonville then is able to mount a drive in the last five minutes of the fourth, scores the TD and goes for two, so that a field goal will tie it. The onside kick is recovered by the Broncos though, and we win!!! Yay.
It takes neither courage nor intelligence to cheer for a team only when that team wins. The true test of a fan's mettle is the same as it is for a player: Were you there when you were needed?

Vulgar wittiness aside
I really do thing the Chiefs can beat the Chargers….“IF” they can hold on to the ball. By preseason standards the Chiefs to me have seemed to be the Chiefs of last year and have been handing the ball over on a silver platter. I will still take the Chiefs in the upset.
My glass is three quarters full at all times!

The Broncos are going to put up over 30 points on the Jags. That should be enough to win the game.
I expect
scoring on a good portion of our possessions. 31 points seems like a good target #
