A list of Denver's defensive drafting over the years
I was struck by a comment that John Elway made during his presser that a team must build through the draft,
so I wanted to do a little research on the Broncos' defensive drafts over the years.
I am posting, for brevity's sake, only the drafts that it would be possible that a player may still be in the league and
settled on starting at 1995. (after the jump)
Here is a list of defensive players taken in the NFL Draft by the Denver Broncos since 1995:
Yr - Rd/Pick Player Position

2010 - 7/225 Syd'Quan Thompson DB
2010 - 7/232 Jammie Kirlew LB
That's the list.
Now I am no draft guru, but this seems a very underwhelming list, especially on the defensive line, and in terms of players
that actually contributed to the Denver Broncos.
Is it coaching? Is it scouting? Is it lack of continuity? Is it an indifference toward defensive players?
How have the Broncos gotten to the point they are at on defense?
I am looking forward to your posts in discussion of how the Broncos have fared building a defense throught the draft,
and how the Broncos can do a better job in the future.

Ughh
Draft more D-Line man, and better CBs and LBs.
Denver needs to draft more DT in the 2nd round
Denver needs to draft more DT, period
regardless of round, but I’m with ya.

Phil Yeboah-Kodie
might be THE BEST LB since…………Vernon Gholston??? Either way, he was a BEAST!
"When Tim Tebow does pushups, he's not pushing himself up, he's pushing the world down."
Phil Yeboah-Kodie AND Ken Brown
BOTH drafted ahead of Terrell Davis….. THAT is what “Draft Rankings” get you.
Broncomaniacs.... UNITE!
Best defensive player PERIOD since Ted Gregory!
And Yeboah-Kodie WAS actually as tall as he was listed too!
Broncomaniacs.... UNITE!
But was he the best defensive player that Shanahan drafted???
My money goes on the 2nd rounder in 2001, Paul Toviessi…. That man was an animal on the foosball field!
Broncomaniacs.... UNITE!
Out of 16 freakin' drafts
the only players who were good, or at least half-way decent were: Al Wilson, Trevor Pryce, Elvis Dumervil, DJ Williams, Darrent Williams, John Mobley, Ian Gold, Kenny Kennedy (debatable), Deltha O’Neil (debatable), Reggie Hayward (debatable), and Robert Ayers (still too early to call it either way, but for now I’m saying he’s decent).
Willie Middlebrooks, Jarvis Moss, Tim Crowder…….are you freakin’ kidding me? If this is the best Shanny could do, I’m personally glad he’s gone (moreso, after seeing his despot-like, dealings with his players in D.C. – Shanny & Dan Snyder are a match made in Hades).

Jarvis Moss... 17th overall...
That was the draft when we were finally going to pay some attention to the DL…
And that was a bad draft for DL...
I looked at the 07 draft to see who would have been better for the Broncos than who they went with…
LaMarr Woodley was the only DL from that draft to make the Pro Bowl… But slim pickins otherwise. Ryan McBean? Baraka Atkins?
But a good MLB was there
Carolina took Jon Beason a good MLB. Undersized, rugged, Pro Bowler. Would not have needed to trade up to the 17th pick and had more picks later on.

defense defense are you kidding me
You could probably could have better results if you were blindfolded and just threw darts at the draft board .
Minor Note
I found it surprising that Nick Eason and Tim Crowder are still playing for the Steelers and Bucs, respectively. Not that they are impact players but probably better than what we have here.
Btw, anyone know how Alphonso Smith did at the Lions this year? I can see that he made a few interceptions, went on IR for the season at some point but not much else.
he's tall, blonde, smokes a cigar, and he's a pig!
For comparison -
look at the fanpost that I just put up about the defnesive drafts of the Steelers during the same time frame.
