NFC Divisional Playoff Open Thread: Packers at Falcons

Kickoff is at 6:00 pm MST (8:00 pm EST) on FOX.

The Green Bay Packers will come to the Georgia Dome and play the Atlanta Falcons for the second time this season. The first meeting between these teams happened in week 12 in Atlanta and saw the Falcons arise victorious, 20-17. With the game tied at 17 all, late in the fourth quarter, the Packers kicked off to Eric Weems who sprinted upfield and was dragged down by the facemask. After tacking on the penalty yardage, the Falcons started their final drive in Green Bay territory and Matt Ryan completed 4 short completions to set the Falcons up with a game winning field goal.

It was a very close and exciting regular season game, but today's game has much bigger implications. The winner will move on to the NFC Championship game, another step closer to the Lombardi Trophy. You don't want to miss this game.

One thing fans should pay close attention to here:

Atlanta runs one of the most effective 4-3 defenses in the NFL. Denver hasn’t had an EFFECTIVE 4-3 (or defense at all) in years.

This should give some good insight on how the D line moves around against a good Packers team.

that's odd

he’s a nice guy, the team loved him, he started Tebow for us, and his team improved under him. He obviously was not ready for the job but he took it in stride and actually picked up a win with the team that ended up with the 2nd to last pick.

by DBroncs1414 on Jan 15, 2011 6:41 PM MST up reply actions

I know, I dont have a good reason....

I guess what it is is that there was such a lovefest among some for him, to the point of even hoping he would be hired as HC (which is downright nuts). So that rubbed me the wrong way which I have transfered to him.

I’m sure he’ll get over it ;)

by charlesnelsonreilly on Jan 15, 2011 6:46 PM MST up reply actions

I actually made a fanpost saying Studes deserved a shot for the HC job

am I nuts because I dont agree with you?

I said I didn’t think he would get it, and I wouldnt be mad if he didnt, but I said as well that if they could get him with a good set of coordinators I wouldn’t be opposed. So am I “downright nuts”?

Here we are in 2010, and they are playing for a spot in the NFC championship game.

Funny comparison

You make the comparison though… here is a quote on Raji and his brother:

Twenty-four-year-old B.J. Raji is 6-foot-2, and listed, perhaps kindly, at 337 pounds.
Corey, two years younger, is 6-6, 218. "People would ask me all the time: What happened to you?" Corey Raji said. "Did your brother eat all of your food or something?"

You heard it here first

Pittsburgh is gonna smack New England in the mouth, in the AFC Championship. Steelers / Packers makes a yellow arse Super Bowl, in which the Pittsburgh Steelers, decimate Aaron Rodgers and company for Big Ben’s 3rd ring.

Philly gave up quite a few points in their last few games.

They gave him a shot after the loss of their DC passed and I’m not sure they loved his audition.

I guess 21 pts to Green Bay isn't really that bad

Especially considering what our D has given up and the Falcons D gave up to them last night.
