I'm in the Game Changer camp. I think having a real studly stud stud in the trenches will be a difference maker. I don't think we need more picks as the answer.
This has been a pretty constant point of discussion in the FanPosts, so I'd thought a thread dedicated to it would be nice. Please cast your vote and discuss your reasoning below.
I think that 1 really great pick is better than many pretty good picks. I think a great player will cause problems for opposing OCs and will be a beacon that causes the game of other players to rise. I also think that it's foolish to think we can rebuild our seriously broken D in just one draft. Probably not even 2 or 3 drafts. That's why I don't like the idea of foregoing a really great pick this year. I think either the Fair Meany or the other Syd will be a real force to be reckoned with, so it doesn't matter to me which one we pick.
I can't help but think of the J-E-T-S Jets. They sucked for quite a few years, and had a top 5 draft pick pretty consistently for a while. Each year they drafted the best Offensive lineman available, never trading down, while their fans booed and booed them. Now look. They can run the ball like no other team. They've built a powerhouse that will be a playoff contender for years too come. I think patience is a virtue when it comes to building a team for the long haul. I think having the #2 pick is too big an opportunity to pass up. If we get a beastly Defensive lineman with our first pick this year and for the next 2 or 3, I think Denver will be the team of the decade. Our offense is young and talented. If we don't sell the farm in order to try to quick fix our play-off chances, I think we'll finally achieve long term consistancy.
I know many people think there are lots of good defensive player that could be had if we trade down. And I know that some past defenses like the Killer Bee's (that's from the way, way back machine) and other no-name defenses occasionally rise to prominence. But I'm not convinced the risks outweigh the rewards. Talk me down if you think other wise.
