This is a year-old article from the PA Mercury speculating about Denver interest in McDermott in 2009 right around the time of the McDaniels hiring. It doesn't surprise me that the Broncos are still interested, especially since the situation in Philly collapsed. McDermott comes from a great coaching background in Philly dating back as far as 1998, serving as scouting adminstrator/coordinator. He then followed in Spagnulo's footsteps up the coaching tree in Philly as Defensive Backs, then Linebackers coach. He was finally promoted to DC after Jim Johnson's death. Those are some great defensive coaches to be associated with. If Denver makes this move I will be really excited. McDermott appears to be a hard-nosed coach with lots of energy and expects a high level of performance from his players. This is exactely the kind of guy Denver needs to set some strict rules and turn a sloppy defense into a disciplined and aggressive one. He spent over a decade under Jim Johnson (who ran a very good and very aggressive 4-3 in PHI) and worked closely with Spagnulo - which are some great coaches to learn from. Time under John Fox's defensive wisdom is only going to make this guy more well rounded. And the fact that he worked in scouting and was also a HC assistant in Philly is a bonus considering leadership and knowledge at the top is inexperienced (Elway has some growing to do, and Xanders could always use another knowledgeable voice for defensive players come draft time.
