Not sure how I feel about Mora Jr
I know some people at MHR were pulling for him, can anyone get me enticed about him?
daaayuuuuum! you gonna take that KB?!? lol -Broncs55

Personally...
I’d rather the Broncos wait to interview and hire Packers defensive line coach Mike Trgovac. Trgovac has a great history with Fox running a 4-3, but has also been tutored under Dom Capers the past two seasons running a 3-4.

If Fox pick's Mora Jr then I hope to heck he can get defense righted.
Don’t know much about Mora’s ability to coach defense but it’s looking like we’ll see…
The biggest plus I see is that he’s been a head coach. I think it’s good to have former head coaches as coordinators. Look at KC and Chicago. They improved a lot with former HCs on staff.
If Only Haley Could Get Along with Former Head Coaches
Haley’s either axed or ran out two as his offensive coordinators in two seasons with the Chiefs, Chan Gailey and Charlie Weis.
The Chiefs were/are a farce
They benefited from a last place schedule and only beat two teams with records of .500 or better. If the Broncos ‘improve’ similarly next year, I hope it comes with more substance.
Yeah but those guys were good DCs before. Mora was average.

this definitely means that an offer was put to McDermott, and he rejected it in favor of Carolina/Rivera. I don’t think the timing makes sense otherwise.
according to Jay Glazer's twittter
I noticed that the Broncos were gunning for McDermott, Mora Jr OR Trgovac, there may not be a hire until after the superbowl…. but I doubt the Broncos will wait that long. If Trgovac doesn’t accept, Mora may be gone. I doubt they want to take that chance!

Can they talk to Trgovac now?
I understand that they have a game to prepare for, but can Denver start negotiations with him to see if he would take the job once the Packers season is over?

I forgot aout this...LOL...
During a rematch of the 2004 NFC Championship with the Philadelphia Eagles, Mora was seen smelling ammonia capsules on the sidelines during a Monday Night Football broadcast. John Madden noted that some coaches use the capsules during games, although they are mostly for players’ use.
+1
this is enough to sell me lol

Carolina or Minnesota
That’s where Singletary will end up. He has ties to both Leslie Frazier and Ron Rivera from their Bears’ days.
Rivera's defense and McD's offense - with McD being able to focus on offense only?
Yikes. Glad Carolina isn’t in our division.

Just realized that. I wondered how I could have missed that news....
Dude…. there’s on;y one McD! LOL.

Mora is not a Champ Bailey type personality based on comments today and in a post several days ago
We need a DC with some football smarts plus a coach who can motivate players. Doesn’t sound like Mora to me.
That's what Fox is for...
DC comes up with the schemes. Leave the pep talks to Fox, not that vets like Bailey need them. Those are more for the younger players, and motivation is Fox’ specialty. He’s hands-on with his defenses, as well. Mora (or whomever is hired) will handle the X’s and O’s.
I always thought Mora was not a very nice guy. He does seem to be a pretty decent defensive coach, however.
Bronco Champions are being forged as we speak.
I don't know what direction they will go in, but....
I would place Dick Jauron, Dave Wannsted, and a number of positional coaches ahead of Mora.
IMHO, everything Mora touches seems to turn sour very quickly. As a coach, he seemed to have the “deer-in-the-headlights” look often.
We are in new territory, as our coach has established our offensive identity. Simply put, its the same. Now, since Fox has a def. background, he SHOULD take his time and make the right hire. Show patience, because I wouldn’t mind getting someone from Green Bay, NYJ, etc., that can bring an aggressive nature to that side of the ball.
Not true at all. Still very crucial. The DC will game plan, work with the assistant coaches, call plays, make sure players are utilized correctly.
Fox may be there to tell him what he wants done but it is usually on the DC to get it done he needs to work well with the players IMO.
I don’t like Mora Jr. as DC. I hope we don’t make a hire just because we are afraid of losing him when he may not even be our first or second choice.
If they do end up hiring him then I hope he is good for the Broncos cause he hasn’t really been that great in the other places he’s been.

Did not say it was not at all crucial. It is not as crucial because Coach Fox has a long history of running defenses in this league.
Fact is Mora Jr is a big upgrade from Wink Martindale. Do you seriously think that coach Fox will not have his fingerprints all over the defense. Turning around our defense is the one of the biggest reasons that he got this job! I suspect that coach Fox will be very involved in the rebuilding of the defense. You cannot deny that the DC position is less important to a coach with years of experience in that area in this league versus an offensive coach who basically relies on the DC alone to run the show.
You're both correct..
but I believe the point BroncoMath is making is that the detail/ day-to-day stuff falls onto the D Coord. It’s perhaps the greatest challenge of a Head Coach, to be able to be engaged but also delegate responsibilities to trusted coordinators…on both sides of the ball.
Despair: It's always darkest just before it goes pitch black.
thank you for solving this delima

Why does everybody call him Jim Mora Jr.?
I suppose it caught on to differentiate the two, but don’t you also have to share Sr.’s middle name to be considered a Jr.? Dad is James Earnest, son is James Lawrence.
Maybe we can stop calling him Jr. and then start calling him "L"

Mora as DC with 49ers (1999-2003)
Points Allowed: 30th, 28th, 9th, 18th, 21st (Avg: 21st)
Passing Yards Allowed: 31st, 29th, 19th, 22nd, 17th (Avg: 24th)
Rushing Yards Allowed: 15th, 16th, 9th, 7th, 9th (Avg: 13th)
It’s not entirely fair to judge a guy on decade-old work, but it’s the last time his sole focus was defense. The 9ers were poised for a deep playoff run two of those seasons and the defense really let them down.
BR1.....I learned something Thanks
I was of the impression that the coordinator was the main man and hands-on to the players between the HC and the players and the HC looked over his shoulder so-to-speak. See, it pays to learn from the MHR guys.
Mora just struck me as really odd
I don’t know what it is, but I really don’t like the man, seems way too smug for someone who has been a failure as a HC. My hope is that we look more at someone more in the trenches that is ready for a step up in position.

So much for continuity.
If we get him, he’s probably gone again in a year or two. The guy threw his kicker under the bus last season. Which doesn’t exactly encourage loyalty. Surprised Fox is even considering this joker. This is also the guy that talked about leaving Atlanta for the Huskies, while still the coach for Atlanta. Not professional. This seems like it would be a lousy hire.
Since trashing the Kicker
is a real team killer. Nobody likes kickers. Especially weak-legged ones like Mare.
I’m not sold on Mora, but it doesn’t make sense to hold him to the same standards as a head coach when, as a DC, he’ll just handle the schemes. Fox will handle the intangibles, especially on that side of the ball.
Don't believe what the MSM tells you....
….the only position in football more important than the kicker is the punter.

I don't see any point in rushing for a DC
giving how thin our options is right now

Zomtober!!!
I agree with Colsportsfan.
No need to rush when the best Defenses are still playing. Let’s wait and see if we can steal a great Position coach from one of the other teams.

Great Points...
Getting the HC was urgent, but unless it’s somebody we are completely sold on, I see no reason to rush to hire a DC, especially given Fox’s D background. Let’s get the right guy that will stay on for I don’t know maybe Two years…

FWIW: Lindsay Jones reporting addition of Mora as DC is “likely” and “near”
I was eleven when Elway made the "leap" in Super Bowl XXXII, but I like to think that's still the moment I was conceived. Go Broncos!

Yea and the DP is reporting as well we are likely
to bring in Richard Smith for LB’s and Jeff Rodgers for ST’s
