The Arizona Solution

So I heard two separate, unrelated items on the proverbial "rumor wire" today that really got me to thinking.  Item one was, "Dove Valley confirms that QB Kyle Orton is available for trade, with a 2nd round pick as compensation".  Item two was, "Arizona is bringing in Josh MCDaniels to interview for the Offensive Coordinator job."

Hmmm......

The conclusion is fairly obvious - if Josh McDaniels indeed takes the job as the Cardinals' OC, then the Cardinals become potential trading partner #1 for Kyle Orton.

One thing I love in the NFL is a win-win trade.  Think of Portis/Bailey, or even Cutler/Orton.  Sometimes trades just make a ton of sense, and this has the makings of one of those times.

To wit, if I were running the Cardinals, I would DEFINITELY hire McDaniels as my OC.  The guy clearly has the pedigree and the experience to be an A-1 OC, and I personally believe that such an appointment may eventually lead our wayward Josh to another HC job ... someday.

Proximally, if I were to hire McDaniels, and if I lacked a viable starter a QB, I'd be first in line to try to get the guy that McDaniels coached to a top-10 (statistical) level just one year before, and who had clearly internalized theoffense that McDaniels runs.

Additionally, if I have some depth of talent in areas that the Broncos are desirous of upgrades, maybe I can get away with a player-for-player trade that creates that elusive "win-win" for both franchises.

So, if i am running the Cardinals I sign Josh McDaniels as my OC and trade straight-up Kyle Orton for 6-8, 300 pound DE Calais Campbell.

Win-win.
