Add Two More Coaches To The List
And then there were four....
According to the Denver Post(link), the Broncos can add two more coaching candidates to the list. John Elway, the Broncos new team vice president announced today that the Broncos are asking permission to interview two more coaches, Perry Fewell, the Giants defensive coordinator, and Gregg Williams, the Saints defensive coordinator.
Perry Fewell is currently the Giants defensive coordinator, while having a large history of jobs else where in the NFL. He served as the defensive backs coach for the Jacksonville Jaguars, Chicago Bears, and St. Louis Rams before getting the job in Buffalo as the defensive coordinator. Fewell was the interim head coach for 7 games in Buffalo, having a 3-4 record in that time, for what it's worth.
Gregg Williams is currently the defensive coordinator of the New Orlean Saints. Williams played a major factor in the Saints first appearance and victory in Superbowl XLIV. Williams is a former head coach in Buffalo where he went 17-31 and was fired in 2003 after going 6-10. Later he signed as the defensive coordinator with the Washington Redskins and both years gave them top ten defenses.
John Elway said the list of potential candidates will continue to grow in the next couple days.

Rick Dennison should be given an interview
he was the internal man when McDaniels got hired – he should be given another interview.
He shares the same values as Elway and Mr. Bowlen, and should at least be brought in to talk :)

All the candidates besides harbaugh fit…creepy.

Do you want to get rid of Tebow? He's a McD guy.
Look, I know it’s PC to criticize McD now, but let’s be rational. Not all of his decisions were bad. I think that we might even have a decent offensive nucleus in Moreno, Tebow, Beadles, Walton, Thomas, and Decker. Plus, I really did like the idea of going bigger on the offensive line. However, I also think that it’s entirely possible to get bigger players, who are also game-fast or game-quick (so we can still use the blocking scheme or schemes that used to work so well for the Broncos…it worked so well that other teams copied it).
I find it really interesting that one of Elway's first orders of business was an announcement indicating that...
…the Broncos organization is actually considering defensive-minded coaches, which I think is great, considering that this has been a major weakness, which hasn’t received nowhere near enough attention these last two years.
Frankly, I wouldn’t mind it if the Broncos did bring Dennison back as offensive line coach, though. I’m just not sure how much experience or success he’s had as an offensive coordinator. Personally, I think that there might be better candidates for offensive coordinator. If we are going with a defensive-minded head coach, then it would probably be ideal to bring in a top-notch offensive coordinator (and one who thinks that he can actually work with [and help make] Tebow a better NFL quarterback).
Like it or not, and ready or not, Tebow does seem to be fast becoming the next face of the franchise, so it would behoove the Broncos to build a team around Tebow. We’ve already got some solid offensive pieces in place, so we could look to free agency to add missing pieces there. However, it’s time to get young and build a dominate defense, beginning with the 2011 Draft, which can compare favorably to the Bear’s, the Steeler’s, or the Raven’s defenses, and which can actually keep opponents from scoring more than 10-20 points on us each game.
Good to hear.
And bring in an OC to work with Tebow would be perfect.

Greg Williams is a defensive Mastermind.
I actually never thought of him but he is a Great Defensive Coordinator and could be a great HC
Defensive mastermind, no doubt. But would HC be stretching it a bit thin?
Bronco Champions are being forged as we speak.
True
many defensive masterminds and offensive masterminds don’t make great head coaches. Great Head coaches have an overall knowledge of all aspects of the game, they know where to put their focus on within their team, and can conduct themselves well to inspire the players and fellow coaches.
Great Head Coaches are very very far and few between.
Yes, there are good coaches, and good coaches can win superbowls with the right team in place…. but I can only think of a handful of Great coaches throughout time.

I am curious as to why
you are totally on board with Fewell, but seemingly adamant (based on “NOT”) Greg Williams. Just curious.

I really like Greg Williams
That Saints defense doesn’t have a ton of talent but he plays smash mouth football and lives and dies by the blitz. I think he’s an interesting candidate. Of the guys being interviewed my list would be 1) Harbaugh, 2) Williams, 3) Mularkey, 4) Fewell.
I’m not sold on Perry. That Giants D has so much talent in the front 7 to not be considered as scary as Baltimore or Pit who have done more with less this season.
They were already in place when he got there and they are awesome. The Giants front 7 was considered one of the best as of last year and the year before.

I like it, again, I would hope that Harbaugh would be the main target, but I like Williams
Williams at least has some HC experience.

Good luck, John. I know you're about the closest thing to Chuck Norris the Broncos have ever seen, but the NFL you left a dozen years ago isn't the NFL you're about to re-enter.

I don't see it
All the talk about Harbaugh wanting Andrew Luck, the 49ers have probably the worst QB situation in the NFL going forward, also their ownership is a bunch of cheap bastards that could really care less about winning. I respect Schefter, but I don’t think it is a done deal of him going to SF, I think he would go to Michigan before SF.

Schefter keeps flip-flopping though
Couple weeks ago he said he was a lock at Michigan if Rodriguez was fired. Rodriguez was fired, and UM looks really unlikely now. He then reported Denver has a good shot, and he seems to be backtracking on that now.
Point is – nobody has a freaking clue what Harbaugh wants, so I wouldn’t take twitter theories too seriously right now.

Out of pure, morbid curiosity...
What is with the deluge of former Buffalo coaches being interviewed for this position?
Perhaps they were so enamored with Studsville being a former Bills coach they felt the need.

It is curious, perhaps it is just a coincidence.
Perhaps they like the fact that they got their first HC failure out of the way. Though Fewell doesn’t really have HC experience other than 1/2 a season. I hope Rivera gets added to the list, though he has never coached in any position at all in Buffalo. So probably no chance for him here.

I like Mularkey.
FIRE JOE ELLIS!

Good list, so far.
I think Mularkey is still my #1. I’ll be curious to see if Mike Nolan gets added to the list. My thoughts are he’d provide a good level of consistency in terms of the defensive scheme. He did a solid job when he was here with a group of 4-3 guys trying to run a 3-4. If he got an upgrade in personnel, I think he’d have that defensive unit in the top 15 right away.
I'm still all about Mularkey
But Williams intrigues me – though his stint in Buffalo was awful.
Not a fan of Fewell, I think the new Head Coach needs actualy head coaching experience – not interim.
Keep in mind, Mularkey was the Bills’ coach immediately after Williams and continued to use that defensive scheme during his time in Buffalo.
Still think you need to go offense with the H.C. There needs to be a qualified offensive mind to make Tebow/Moreno/Thomas/Decker/Beadles/Walton work.
Yep...and thats why I am with you Vortex on Mularkey. look what he did for Kordell Stewart, as you pointed out before.

Would like to have someone like Fewell
A tough defensive mind
Bring in Williams!!
And then bring in a hot shot offensive coordinator, like maybe a Josh McDaniels?

i'd welcome a good Defensive coach
or an good offensive coach with a great DC (advise to let the DC do his job)
bring in Perry Fewell and have Brandon Jacobs tag along.
It would be nice watching Jacobs run through the AFC West.

Cower
Is Bill Cower on the radar or is that over?
Not to rain on the Gregg Williams parade...
But the guy was 17-31 as Bills HC. That’s a fairly significant sample size. He’s a great DC (before and after the Bills HC job) and I’d support overpaying to put him in that role here, but I wouldn’t be excited to have him as HC. Maybe he’ll be great during his second chance (ala Belichek), but I’d bet against that.
This is my thought
I just remember him coaching not to lose and looking out of his depth as the HC in Buffalo. Personally, I like Mularky as the best of the bunch. After him with the interviewees confirmed so far It is more that I DON’T like Williams and would prefer someone else.
User name pronounced Air-Ah-Miss Originally from my days in the SCA, became a gamer and forum tag because it is odd and it is a name I like
Yep, bring in as Asst HC/ DC...then its an upward move from Saints and we can interview him.

Of the list of interviewees so far I would take Mularkey.
He was with a horrible Bills team but arguably did the best and wasn’t fired but resigned because he didn’t like the direction or help from the Ownership and FO. Sounds like someone who really wants the FO to have a direction/vision and be involved. Plus he might steal some of their talent like Norwood or Snelling. I would not mind if he kept McCoy on as OC but we would need to get him a stellar DC. I’m not sure who would fit that bill but I sure as heck don’t want Singletary. Maybe Mangini as DC. he was a good DC for the Pats and maybe like Crennel he can resurrect his career as DC again.
Williams is a great DC but I am not sold on him as a coach. Fewell did well as interim for the Bills and is a decent defensive mind so I wouldn’t be opposed to giving him a shot but it wouldn’t be my first choice.
Studesville intrigues me for continuity sake but I’m not sure continuity is the best thing when your defense is ranked last in the league again. It would require the least amount of changes though that’s for sure.
Tim Tebow wears 3WM and drinks Tuscan whole milk.
I'm just glad we're interviewing defensive minded guys.
Know when to fold em'.

I got people nicknaming their kids after me.
I'll reserve the optimism for the 17-win seasons; now is the time for scrutiny.
Josh McRoberts you STIFF!!!
Meh and NOOOOO!!!! on these two
I don’t dislike Fewell. He has done well with the talent in place which was pretty good up front. My concern is that he has made some bad decisions game wise (see Philly game where he got Blitz happy) that have not helped the team win.
I hate Williams. I think he proved he is out of his depth as a Head Coach in Buffalo. He is a VERY talented Defensive Coordinator, but like Wade Phillips he has no business as a Head Coach. If we add him we end up with a coach who is great at playing not to lose. I don’t want that.

Out of country. Kind of wondering if Bill Cower is on the Broncos radar. Anybody know?
Romanowski
Didn’t like Romanowski till he played for the Broncos. Don’t like Cower but if he was our coach I think I’d warm up to him
