I'm not sure If i'd mind this or not. I for sure wouldn't mind him as OC. He did a great job with the run game in Houston.
Maybe he’ll make a good HC who knows. Anybody know what kind of personality Dennison has? What do the players say about him? I love that he has been a Bronco.
Tim Tebow wears 3WM and drinks Tuscan whole milk.
players respect him
and he has a mutual respect for them.
Ricky is very respected within the organization as well! He has a good head on his shoulders, and has knowledge in every aspect of the game.

Well, here is what I know about my cuz…
* The 51-year-old Dennison is entering his 16th season in the NFL as a coach and his 25th year in the league overall. Dennison has spent his entire NFL tenure to date with the Denver Broncos, first as a player from 1982-90 and then as a coach from 1995-09.
* This will be Dennison’s second stint as an offensive coordinator in the NFL. He took over the role in Denver from 2006-08 after his predecessor, Gary Kubiak, left Denver to become the head coach of the Houston Texans. With Dennison at the helm, Denver’s offense averaged 350.5 yards per game from 2006-08 and rushed for 124.4 yards per game, averaging 4.6 yards per carry. Despite starting a rookie at left tackle and a second-year player at right tackle in 2008, the Broncos offense gained 6,333 yards to rank second in the NFL and the offensive line allowed a franchise-record low of 12 sacks on the season.
* In 2007, Denver was fourth in the NFL in yards per play (5.7) and was fifth in the league in yards per rush (4.6). In 2006, Dennison’s first season at the helm of the offense, Denver ranked fifth in the NFL with an average of 360.4 yards per game.
* With Dennison in charge of either the offensive line or the entire offense from 2001-09, the Broncos ranked second in the NFL with an average of 135.1 rushing yards per game, and Denver’s 4.5-yard rushing average in that time period was the third-highest in the league. The Broncos line also excelled in pass blocking, surrendering just 226 sacks in nine years, which was the fourth-fewest in the league over that time span.
* Dennison played linebacker for the Broncos from 1982-90, appearing in 128 games with 52 starts and three Super Bowls (XXI in 1986, XXII in ‘87 and XXIV in ‘89). In 1989, he received the Ed Block Memorial Courage Award. A year earlier, Dennison ranked second on the Broncos in tackles with 133 during the 1988 campaign while posting a team-high three fumble recoveries that year.
* Dennison joined the Broncos as a college free agent in 1982 after playing collegiately at Colorado State, where he was a second-team Academic All-American as a senior and earned three varsity letters. In 1979, Dennison received a bachelor’s degree in civil engineering from CSU followed by a master’s degree in the same field from CSU in 1982.
He retired as a player in 92 as his wife was sick with cancer. They moved back to where her family was from in Florida where she sadly passed away leaving him both a widower and a lonesome father. He then went on to coach some local football before getting a position back with the Broncos organization to continue his career in Football.
One thing I do know about Ricky, is that he loves this organization with as much passion as Mr. Bowlen and Mr. Elway does!

the stats above
are from an outdated AFC blog, however all is pretty much true
He knows how to run an offense in my opinion, and playing on defense all his life he has a nose for that. I’m sure his defensive knowledge is what makes him successful on offense.
He is al all around good coach!

I agree with everything about this
I was a Harbaugh supporter, but I really think Dennison has all the tools to suceed. To me he is similar to Mike Smith in Atlanta. A guy who worked his way up from the trenches and is just a solid coach. Bring on coach Rico!

"Duffman is thrusting in the direction of the problem" - Duffman

"H.I., you're young and you got your health, what you want with a job?" - Evelle from Raising Arizona

Honestly
I’m really starting to like the idea of Rico as our new HC! I would be more then ecstatic to have him, we would be bringing back people from our glory days! (Ala Elway and Dennison)

Agreed Dustin...a well respected former Bronco...great coach with knowledge of all 3 phases of the game....should we really interview anyone else???
FIRE JOE ELLIS!
ANYONE ELSE INTERESTED IN SEEING WHAT WE HAVE IN TEBOW? Watching Kyle orton is like watching re-runs of the Brady Bunch...you always know whats going to happen and makes you feel sick at the end!

Ha!
I knew you’d be the first to break this story, 55! : )
The more I think about Dennison, the more I like him. Primarily because what we need most on offense right now is to get the line together, and we know he’d do that at minimum!
Now if we could just talk Joe Collier out of retirement to be our DC, we’d have something! ; )
In good times and bad times, I'm a Bronco fan. Sucka.

I can get on board with Rico...
If nothing else he is and always will be a Bronco first and foremost. And from some ramblings I’ve heard (Radio shows, etc) is that Dennison had one of the better interviews 2 years ago.

WE NEED A LEADER
Dennison is smart, has NFL playing and coaching experience and would be great for this position. The HC does not have to be some XO’s guru he needs to lead and surround himself with good cordinators, Look at Tomlin in Pitt. I say give Dennison a shot and bring in some coordinators and or keep McCoy to help out.
2/3 of the earth is covered by water the other 1/3 is covered by Champ Bailey!
THIS IS BRONCOS COUNTRY!!!
+1
I think Ricky is smart enough to surround himself with other smart people in their respective positions. He would use their strengths to his advantage, rather than what McD did.
I think McD will make a great coach someday, but he had made a lot of mistakes and needs to learn from them first. His own ego got the best of him imo – I don’t believe Ricky would make the same mistakes!

As an alumn of Rocky Mountain High School in Fort Collins, CO
I support my fellow Lobo as a head coach.
He’s coached and played at almost every position, and he has a competitiveness about him. He’s also a true Bronco.
Hopefully my cousin gets a legitimate shot!
Well I think he will get a fair shot he obviously isn’t being brought in to satisfy the “Rooney Rule”. Also I can’t see Kubiak denying the Broncos a chance to interview him or Dennison the chance to interview for the job.
In my opinion if he is the best man for the job Great! I have some other candidates that I would like to see interviewed as well, some not currently available because there teams are in the playoffs and one in particular should be available because he is in TV. I’m speaking of Mariucci not Gruden. Regardless I want the front office to be thorough and higher the BEST head coach available.
No, I agree
everyone should be given an interview for sure. However, when it boils down to it, money talks. I bet Rick would be a hell of a HC for really dirt cheap compared to all the top end prospects.
I hope we do hire the best candidate for the job, afterall, I bleed orange and blue (mostly due to Rick), so the team comes first, but would love to see him lead us back to greatness.
Either way, I’ll support whomever we hire regardless of who they are or where they come from, although if they hire Cable, while I will support him, I think I might just barf! lol

If they hire cable I think the entire state might barf, I for one would be with you on that sentiment unless it was as an o-line coach but surely there are other equally qualified candidates for o-line coach should the position be available.
Good
I’ve always liked the zone blocking scheme and if he came back he definitely would bring that back with him. I feel we have the personel for it and I feel moreno would be a better fit for the zone blocking scheme. If he was hired, I feel we would have to have some former head coaches as coordinators just so we are not completely inexperienced on the staff.
Here's to Tebow being the starter in 2011!
+1
I was just thinking that very thing—Moreno would be a better fit in the Zone-blocking scheme. And like you said, I believe that our personnel matches that scheme more anyways.

I would be okay with Dennison as the HC
He was the main reason I would have wanted Kubiak to come back. Even though I think Moreno would succeed in any running system if healthy, I think he will be even that much more successful with Dennison improving the O-line.
I wonder if Ryan Harris would be more likely re-signed if Dennison is HC, because he was very good with the zone blocking.

Big Al and Stink
were talking about Rico the other day. They gave him a glowing review, i not because he played with them, but because he knew his stuff! Kind of interesting timing !
Well, in fairness, Dennison was coaching when Al and Stink were on the team
So they wouldn’t of played with him. But I heard the show and I would agree with their comments, the one I loved was when asked why he left to Houston, Stink said he knew some stuff that happened, but wouldn’t elaborate, but did say that McDaniels told Dennison that the ZB scheme was dead in the NFL, Dennison goes to Houston and has a 1,600 yard undrafted RB running the ZB scheme, maybe McD is not the offensive mastermind that people believe.

possibly not
not that his offense was what the problem was, cause it wasn’t as far as the passing game is concerned.
McD is a quarterbacks coach, pure and simple.

And yet
McDaniels did use zone blocking at times throughout the season. I always worried how Shanahan’s smaller linemen would wear down eventually and sometimes get overpowered by larger defensive linemen, but I think you can run an effective ZB scheme with the guys we have now.
The problem wasn't the smaller lineman.
The problem was the AGE of the smaller lineman.
For example in 2008 –
Hamilton – 31
Wiegmann – 35
