Orton power outage allows Tebow to light up the city
Despite his hard work in the off season, his precision throws in training camp, and a solid understanding of the Broncos complex offense Kyle Orton just couldn't get it done. After four and half weeks of dimming results, Broncos head coach John Fox couldn't take it anymore and pulled the plug on starter Kyle Orton. Orton was benched after a dismal first half in which he completed only 6 of 13 passes for 34 yards, a league leading 7th interception, and a pathetic QB rating of 21.
Out of the gate, Tebow had some obvious rust! He missed a wide open Eric Decker for a long gain, short hopped receiver Matthew Willis, and bobbled multiple snaps. But when the fourth quarter arrived something clicked and slowly but surely the former Florida Gator began to gain some momentum and before you know it the entire team was also riding on that Tebow momentum. The fans were going nuts, the stadium was shaking, the defense was going nuts and even the coaches were going nuts.
It was the most exciting 4th quarter i have seen in a solid 5 years if not more. Tebow only completed 4 of 10 passes for 79 yards but also added 38 yards on the ground. He had an impressive TD run and followed it with a TD screen pass to Knowshon Moreno. After the scoring pass to Moreno you could feel a buzz over the entire State of Colorado. It was like being transported to a John Elway game at Mile High Stadium. This is what exciting football is like. This is what Broncos fans miss. Kyle Orton couldn't do anything but sit there awkwardly, trying to figure out why he couldn't drive that kind of electricity with the fans.
I realize the Broncos still have some major gaps to correct and Tebow is as raw as they come. But behind that rust and raw, you have a heart of a champion and he brought more electricity in 5 minutes than Orton produced in all of 2010 and 2011. Tebow's performance will make it extremely hard for John Fox to start Kyle Orton against the Miami Dolphins in two weeks. If he does, the Broncos better notify the Denver PD because we will have a major riot on our hands in the Mile High City.
Nobody can say Orton wasn't given his chance to lead this team but in the end he just didn't get it done.
Time to Unleash the Tebow, this time for good!
