But if Tebow does make all the critics eat crow then im going to have to make one of those dishes and send it to someone. Have too.

Why do you (and most Tebow fans) insist on calling people who don't agree with your opinion of Tebow haters?
I’ve always said I think the best quarterback on the roster should be the starter, but it’s up to the coaches to decide who is the best quarterback, not the fans. They’ve now decided that Tebow is the guy, and I’m excited about the opportunity he brings to the Broncos. (I can wear my orange Tebow jersey now.) I just hope he can live up to the hype or he too will likely be run out of town by the “fans”.

The “fans” have been pretty good about running off those that should be run off.
McJedi isn’t exactly lighting up the scoreboard for St Louis. Some how I don’t think Orton will come back to haunt us either. And it’s not like he was giving the “fans” any reason to cheer. Even I could throw lame duck passes to Weddle.
I’d say the “fans” are two for two.

This
the fans aren’t/weren’t being unreasonable. People act like we can’t see poor QB when it’s right in front of us. If he’d won or even played decent it might have been a different story. If….
With that said it’s Tebow time!
Release the Tebow!
I disagree
the fans were calling for his head even when KO was playing good/okay. KO’s career here in Denver was average… this year (2011), much worse than that… but the anti-KO sentiment hit strongly long before KO started really sucking about 6-8 games ago.
To some extent, KO’s failure, particularly this year, was a self-fulfilling prophesy. Did the booing/TT-mania cause KO’s collapse? I doubt it in entireity… but it probably didn’t help either.
by cjfarls on Oct 12, 2011 1:45 PM MDT up reply actions 1 recs
And I'd disagree cj
People were pretty OK with KO in 2009. Granted there were skeptics, but the first 6 stopped much of that. The talk was that McD saw a skill in KO that he could maximize, and together it was happening. Even after things faltered that season, the talk was more that KO’s play fell off because of injury. We appreciate that he’s tough, hopefully he can soon get back to full strength, but this happens with him, etc. etc.
It was 2010, with the downward trend that folks generally lost any confidence in KO.
The problem there
Is that KO was ranked mid field and our defense was ranked last.
The QB gets the blame. But it is wrong.
Go Broncos!
by Sean in Pa. on Oct 12, 2011 3:03 PM MDT up reply actions 1 recs
KO wasn’t mid field in 2010. He was closer to 22nd ranked. And what was more alarming was that he was playing a lot worse toward the end of the 2010 season than the beginning.
KO was benched in 2010 just as much as he was hurt.
KO lost me vs Oakland in the 59-14 nightmare. His pick 6 and subsequent play set a horrible offensive tone for that game to match our horrible defensive tone.
Tim Tebow > Kyle Orton
I agree that Orton made mistakes
He had problems. My problem is that KO is taking all the blame.
If Tebow comes in and starts winning with our defense still not playing well, I promise to shut up.
I think it more likely that while the offense will do better with Tebow, it won’t be enough. Our defense still needs to improve and they deserve a lot of blame for our problems last year.
Go Broncos!
While Orton takes on more blame than he deserves, such is life for NFL QBs. They make the most money of any position and they have the most impact on a game because they touch the ball on EVERY play.
And to be blunt, Orton was our single worst offensive starter over the first 4.5 games. And unlike Beadles (my #2) or Walton (my #3), Orton wasn’t improving.
Orton really does deserve the lion’s share of the blame for our 1-4 record. He was the biggest reason we lost week 1, week 3 and week 5. His 3 Ints and pick 6 in week 4 did him no favors either.
Tim Tebow > Kyle Orton
The biggest problem with KO
Is that his trend line ran in the wrong direction from game 1 of 2010. All his fault – no. But he didn’t seem like part of the solution, either. I’m disappointed too.
McJedi, Joe Ellis and Bowlen deserves ALL the blame for our problems last year. No one else.

oh and
That 22 ranking came after the two bad games he played at the end before he was benched. For whatever reason he played badly, those two games dropped his ranking out of the teens. He did pretty well as cjfaris has so eloquently noted.
Go Broncos!
depends on how much you care about context
in situationally adjusted stats and adjusted for DEF’s played, FootballOutsiders had KO ranked as 12th, even with the horrible last 2 games included. He was top-10 in context before that.
Not sure what you’re using to get your 22nd ranking.
reality is probably somewhere in between… ~15th-18th… a.k.a. average.
Absolutely... he got eaten
I agree completely and it can very objectively seen that KO cratered in his recent performance… he played himself out of a job. A sub-60 QBR in recent games is all on him.
But that said, the fan expectations were always a bit off… he and Lloyd pretty much single-handedly carried the team the first ~6-8 games in 2010, and the fans were still all over him because he’d throw a last minute pick in the final drive or make one or 2 small errors… but the only reason the team was even in position for that last minute drive at all was because he was playing out of his mind, with no help from the run game or DEF… the TT crowd and the “only thing that matters is W-L” crowd were keen to jump on any failure as an excuse or cherry-picked stat to call him a “choker”, or “loser”, regardless of whether his aggregate performance overall was good ot not.
In 2009 the fast start shut a lot of the early boo-birds up, but remember how many folks were still calling for Chris Simms even then? The critics were back in force by the end of the year, with all kinds of focus on individual minutia like “poor pocket presence”/“lack of mobility”, etc., much of which could be shown as small sample size anecdotes or not representative (at least compared to his aggregate performance which was average)….. e.g. a relatively bad 3rd down %, but ignoring the longest “to-go” context faced by any QB in the league in ’09.
The number of folks here on MHR that wanted to draft a developmental QB in 2010, or even just the love for Brandstater in the ’09-10 offseason is testiment to lack of fan support Orton had even before the TT-phenomenon came full force.
A big portion of the fanbase was always looking for Orton to fail, because he was never going to be that “perfect” uber-prospect like Elway was. It is s standard that is unlikely to be met for a long-time, and until the fanbase gets this “QB as savior” complex out of their system, they will make it more difficult than it should be for the team to perform.
by cjfarls on Oct 12, 2011 2:51 PM MDT up reply actions 2 recs
Well said and rec'd
I would have to agree the fan support for KO was never strong – and not being in the area, I only get what I see on MHR. I characterized that support as “pretty OK”, which in the excitement of the 2009 start allowed us to project the best outcome after a turbulent off-season, and even convince ourselves that KO was much more than a “throw-in” to the Cutler trade.
But you are correct in that any support was fleeting – like for a Brister or Griese. I’d also agree that we’re still looking for the post-Elway savior that can carry a team on his back. We lose interest when the QB isn’t that guy, and the team otherwise loses. Finally, the support evaporates when the guy with the clipboard looks like he can fill that role, whether it’s Cutler for Plummer, or T2 for KO. That both Plummer and KO appeared to fold under that pressure just confirmed the eventual opinion that neither was the chosen one.
P.S. You’re probably right about Simms, but those calls sure died fast!
Throw the awful Hillis trade in..
…and I’d say we are 3 for 3.

And then there is hoping Tebow will fail so you can be right, or because you hate him because of his faith or public agenda. Or your bitter and don’t like good stories like Tim Tebow.

R M T ur correct
The latter of ur statement is what I can’t stand. I agree Tim will have allot of work to do if he wishes to succeed and for some reason I and everyone I talk to seem to agree that some body like Tim is a good story and hope for him to silence the haters. I didn’t agree with his draft I felt we needed other players at the time. But now I want him to make it it and I want him to be a Bronco. If he dosent than I will still be a Bronco Fan.

Woody said (and that's a cute one, too)......
“He can perform circumcisions, lead a college team to a national championship, co-author a best-selling book, win the Heisman Trophy, fund a hospital and an orphanage in the Philippines, sell jerseys, underwear and energy drinks, and polarize everybody who pays attention to football.”
What if he comes up short? Talk isn’t gonna cut it. Will he grasp what’s expected of him?
There are too many of them. Woody (oops, there he is again!) says things he shouldn’t. He just hacks at writing. Maybe he doesn’t grasp the idea……
Okay, Your turn…….
I have not been this nervous since watching my son play....
One of the things I learned as a parent, unlike one’s playing days, your stomach can get tied in knots watching your kid. Contrary to the tale of woe that is being sold as Orton’s treatment in Denver, he actually had tremendous support. Not just the majority opinion but the entire choir of offseason football voices claimed Orton should be the starter. The voices went so far as to say, thinking the broncos could win with Tebow was “stupid”. The coaches all supported Orton and we constantly heard how the “locker room” was behind him.
For Tebow it will be a very different story. You think those “boos” leveled at Tebow that get far more air time due to being football people on football shows, are going to stop now that he is a starter? There is nothing that would make all those people more happy then to be vindicated. Then there is the little matter of preparation. Had Orton been traded and Tebow been named the starter, he would have gotten all the reps with the first team in training camp and preseason. Getting him ready would have been priority #1, not somewhere down the list. What is happening to Tebow is not uncommon for a quarterback replacing a starter, but usually you don’t have a chorus of individuals on football shows ready at any mistake to hammer the promoted starter.
Tebow needs to produce and in a hurry. For someone who is in the process of working on his throwing mechanics this is a tall order. I would not have drafted Tebow any higher than the third round due to knowing it should take a couple years to get him NFL ready. I sure hope he is more ready than the coaches said he was just last week.
If he fails, the conventional wisdom is the Broncos can just draft another quarterback as we should be in a good draft position. I like the kid out of Baylor a lot. I just worry if Tebow fails, will the fans slip into greater apathy? The last two years of Shanny’s reign were tough on the fans, McD’s tenure was tough on the fans, I hope the next 11 games will be different.
Denver is under a microscope
I do believe Tebow has as hard a road ahead of him as Orton did. We can only hope he does play well. I hope he plays well. I hope our defense continues to show improvement and that later in the season we hear all the stupid heads talking about what a surprise Denver is :D
One can dream, right?
Go Broncos!
has anyone argued that tebow won’t be a good qb because he’s not intelligent enough?
"the man who created a legend; the legend who resurrected a franchise."
Sadly some have said this and also said he can't understand an NFL playbook because he has dyslexia
Which shows people speak without having a fundamental understanding of dyslexia in the first place. I don’t know the severity of Tebow’s dyslexia but as I work in education I can attest that dyslexia is something one can overcome with diagnosis, treatment, and hard work. I’m sure Tebow and his family got him the help he needed.
Florida’s offense wasn’t simple. Lot’s of motions and option routes.
