Now that we've got something to be excited about I wanted to do a Broncos 3 round mini-mock 2012 draft. I'm going to make a few assumptions. First, I think Tim Tebow is going to do well as the starter but it probably won't result in a huge number of wins so I have us drafting in the 8th spot. Second, the reason I think we won't get a lot of wins is because our defense is still a work in progress. Third, EFX isn't against drafting a DT. Here we go:
Round 1 Pick 8 - Broncos select Dre Kirkpatrick, CB, Alabama
Champ Bailey isn't getting any younger and the hamstring injuries are getting a little old. Dre Kirkpatrick is the best CB in this year's draft and would be a perfect eventual replacement, he's got the size and speed to shut down elite WR's. With the NFL becoming more and more of a passing league we can't depend on below average players like Cassius Vaughn. (2nd choice = Vontaze Burfict, ILB, Arizona St.) (3rd choice = Alshon Jeffrey, WR, S. Carolina)
Round 2 Pick 40 - Broncos select Brandon Thompson, DT, Clemson
Its no secret that we can't get any pressure up the middle on the defensive line, time to fix that. Brandon Thompson is the kind of run stopping QB killing DT we need. We could go with a LB or another CB but with Vickerson's season ending injury and the lackluster play we're getting out of the other scrubs its time for a major upgrade. (2nd choice = Lavonte David, OLB, Nebraska) (3rd choice = Mike Adams, G/T, Ohio St.)
Round 3 Pick 72 - Broncos select Devon Still, DT, Penn St.
I think we're going to need another quality DT up front if we want to contend anytime soon and Devon Still is a force to be reckoned with. (2nd choice = Donnie Fletcher, CB, Boston College) (3rd choice = Tydreke Powell, DT, North Carolina)
Tell me what you think fellas. GO BRONCOS!!!
