Hey guys just wanted to know your thoughts on ILB Nate Irving. I saw some shaky comments on the guys pre season play, i was only able to watch 1 game so i wanted to get your take. From what i have read and watched on tape this is what i thought...
Positives: The guy has a crazy knack for finding the football. His instincts and awareness are impressive and he has good enough athleticism for a MLB to run down plays and play coverage. He also has great intangibles and I really look for that in a MLB. His leadership skills and work ethic are tremendous and he carries a chip on his shoulder, especially after that crash. He blitzed well in college and really is great at locating holes and attacking the ball carrier.
Negatives: After watching a lot of his tape and highlights he really has to become a more sound tackler. He tackles way to high and that just wont work with guys at the NFL level. He lacks ideal ILB size and needs to add some bulk for sure, but im sure he is during this season and off-season. Hopefully the added strength will help him shed blocks because besides tackling that is his other glaring weakness. He gets locked up by big lineman occasionally and needs to improve there.
Final Take: IMHO I think Nate Irving can be the future MLB for the Broncos but i do think he needs time to grow and develop. His car crash really set him back and no off-season with a minor ankle injury was no help either. I think he fits the Fox mold for lbs pretty well and he will continue to learn from coaches and players. He shows incredible determination and work ethic so hopefully those intangibles can lead to success.
