The Detroit Lions
In the 2008 Super Bowl (2007 season), the New York Giants pulled the upset over the undefeated New England Patriots. The Giants had a dominant running game and a stout defense that could stop the run and rush the passer.
I listened to a podcast yesterday at ESPN in which Ross Tucker and Mark Williamson broke down the Detroit Lions’ loss to the Falcons last Sundaay. And what they concluded was that the Lions no longer have a decent running game and cannot stop the run because of injuries and other reasons. Yes, they still can rush the passer.
But because of the sport’s media propaganda machine’s desire to take down Tim Tebow because of his threat to the status quo as an unconventional QB and their discomfort with Tebow’s fervent and outspoken religious beliefs, I predict you will not hear this idea promulgated by the talking heads.
Instead you will be left with the idea that the Lions are as vaunted as the Super Bowl Giants and the fact that the Lions have lost their last two games will receive scant attention or mention and that Tebow has no or very little chance to prevail against the Lions.
In reality Tim Tebow and the Broncos have a far better chance or opportunity to beat the Lions this coming Sunday than the Giants had to beat the Patriots and thus the task is nowhere as daunting as the Giants faced against the Patriots a few years ago.
Don’t believe the hype.
The spread is only 3 points in favor of Detroit.

Not sure where you are getting this propaganda
Since both ESPN and NFL Network are saying Detroit could very well lose this game. Add in Tebow doesn’t threaten any status quo anymore than Donovan McNabb or Steve Young did, I wonder what you are watching or reading.
I am a bear of very little brains and big words bother me.
Well said Maxwell. The idea that Tebow is "hated" because of his Christian beliefs in a country that is 90% Christian is the biggest load of self serving rubbish I have ever heard.
I’d say more on where these this is coming from but I don’t want to start off a political debate.
But I will say this. NFL analysts and commentators have every right, as do fans to point out what they believe are the flaws in Tebow’s game. Unlike the keyboard warriors on the internet the commentators have to put their name to their writings.
I love MHR for the depth and intelligence many of its fans But the amount of media bashing on this site can be quite unappealing. I’ve lost track of the amount of times I’ve seen journalists called very insulting names that I bet the poster would not even begin to contemplate saying to their face. And I’m sure Tebow would be the first to say if you can’t say an insult to someone’s face then don’t say it behind their back ( or post anomously on an internet blog for that matter).
Let the media hacks do their jobs and if you don’t agree with their views on Tebow then you don’t have to resort to name calling or unsubstantiated claims about hidden agendas or whatever.
Tebow has every chance now to prove them wrong. Let him get on with it.

To be fair
I rewatched Lions-Falcons last night and they were a deflected pass and Brandon Pettigrew drop from making things really interesting . The Niners game was literally lost by inches on that 4th and Goal, we need to respect the Lions. Yes, we can beat them, but they are good.

Tim,
I find this disturbing. I just told you yesterday what the offense should do on Sunday. Now Woody Paige says the same thing. They claim that great minds think alike. Either I’m losing it by saying the same things as Paige or he’s getting to my level of thinking.

remain calm.
i’ve had that scare before. slow things down and don’t form opinions until you’ve read woody’s columns. once you have, just disagree no matter what. do that for a week or so til you’re feeling on your game again.

San Diego’s 1st round picks since 2007
2006 – Cromartie (plays for the Jets)
2007 – Buster Davis (Bust – no longer with team)
2008 – Antoine Cason (about to be benched)
2009 – Larry English (IR – could be cut in off-season)
2010 – Ryan Matthews (meh)
2011 – Corey Liuget (decent starter with potential)
All in all, it’s pretty sorry record for the overrated AJ Smith. Not to mention that San Diego hasn’t exactly been lighting up these drafts in the mid to later rounds either.
That team is getting by almost entirely on having star or core players in their 30s (Rivers, Jammer, Hardwick, Dielman, Gates, Garay & S Phillips).
As father time catches up with this team, you’ll see player regression, injuries take longer to heal, more injuries, loss of speed, burst, etc). As a team, they are like America’s economy in 2007. A bubble that is about to burst.
I was there!
They do have a lot of good players entering their post prime career.
IMO – Jammer and Phillips are the two best defenders on that team and have been for a long time.
If there was any QB in the AFC West even close to Rivers, I think SD would already be considered a has been. There 9-7 record last season was indicative of exactly where they are as a franchise and it’s only going to get worse IMO.
I was there!
fine with me
the Dolts had their chance, when we’re good, we win championships, San Diego chokes in the postseason one Super Bowl appearance, it didn’t come with Dan Fouts and Rivers will never get there, it was Stan FREAKING Humphries, that is still so incredible to me

This is a huge game. If KC wins and the Broncos knock off the Lions here are the standings:
CHARGERS 4-3
RAIDERS 4-3
CHIEFS 4-3
BRONCOS 3-4

I like our chances against a Javid Best-less Lions team with a Hobbled Matt Stafford
I hope Dennis Allen blitzes the hell out of them and keep his confidence low… I also hope the gameplan for Tebow allows for a faster start. I think as Tebow starts practicing more and more with his receivers things will start falling in place.
Willis McGahee as day-to-day… HOLY CRAP, dude must eat nails for breakfast.
