Absolute Debacle

That was tough to watch.  Tebows critics are going to say this is proof that the kid can't be an NFL Quarterback.  However, to be fair Tebow is playing with a lack of talent around him.

1.  Our offensive line is average

2.  Moreno and Ball  are average at best.

3.  Decker is a good #2 reciever, but he is not a number 1 and he is not a deep threat.  This allows defenses to crowd the line of scrimmage on us.

4.  Eddie Royal is like the invisible man, havent seen much of him since his rookie season.

5.  Our defense is improving but we still have holes.  Our defensive line needs serious uprgrades, our cornerback depth is thin, our ability to stop the run comes and goes.  Vastly improved over last year, but still a long way to go.

Tebow gets criticized for holding the ball to long, but our recievers can't get seperation from DBs.  No one on our offense scares any defense.  Our best threat was brandon lloyd and we gave him away for a 5th round pick.  Tebow has a lot of work to do, but right now he's got to feel like its one against 11 out there.  He needs help and a big talent infusion on offense for him to succeed.

What's up with the play calling?  Dive play, Dive play, incomplete pass on third and long.  Are you kidding me?  where were the adjustments?  What about opening up the playbook?  What about letting Tebow be Tebow and take the training wheels off the bike.

Today was ugly and disheartening.  We will never know what we have with Tebow unless you open the playbook and he gets more help from his teammates, especially his recievers.  Tebow has a lot work to do, but so do the bronco coaches and all members of the offense.

The critics are going to write Tebow off after this, but I think the kid can be a good QB, but like john lynch said on the broadcast, they have to open the playbook to give him a fighting chance.  Unleash Tebow and hit the throttle the rest of the season, lets see what Tebow and the offense are really capable of.

Lions fan here

I don’t mean this the wrong way, but the Broncos pretty much look like the Lions in the earlier part of the decade: a few young, rising talents here and there, but no “glue” to join them together into an actual team. The Lions right now have the premium talent in guys like Stafford, Calvin and Suh, but there are plenty of those glue players like Avril, Corey Williams, the linebacking crew, Burleson and Pettigrew on the offense to make them a team.

For me, I think the biggest thing the Broncos need to figure out is an identity on the offense. Are they going to be a pass happy team? A run heavy team? A team that actually runs some sort of college scheme to cater to Tebow? Until and if they decide, this team will be stuck in limbo/mediocricy much like the Lions were for so long (not to say that they have completely turned the corner yet).

Aside from that, I think your front seven really needs some physical presence against the run. I was surprised that the Lions were actually able to do anything on the ground with those stupid half-draw plays they like to run from the shotgun. In other weeks, those plays generated either negative yardage or 1 yard at best. This week, they were actually able to get something going with them.

some pretty decent analysis there sir

We were hoping, and had some hope this year so far, that the front 7 would be better at holding up at the point of attack. I thought our DT’s played okay but the rest was awful. This resembled the first game the Broncos played this year, against the Raiders on Monday Night, and countless other games the past 3+ years. There was so little gap-discipline yesterday it was gross. I think those stupid half-draw plays from the shotgun helped enable that. My hat is off to you guys and your team and its staff, as it played right to our team’s weaknesses most of the game. Hell they even managed to get Megatron lined up against a 3rd string cornerback several times yesterday. Classy group of fans as well, good luck the rest of the way sir.

The last two weeks are the Orlando Franklin I knew at Univ of Miami. He was awful as a LT for Miami and he looks just as bad as Tebow’s blindside protector.

He may prove out at RG or LG, but he can’t pass block for squat.

And DT looks completely clueless out there. He was clueless last week for most of the game. That pick 6 was DTs ball for a TD, but he wasn’t even looking for the ball. He wasn’t even really running a route. DT is a football moron out there.

by McGeorge on Oct 30, 2011 6:39 PM MDT reply actions

This.

I never thought that pick 6 was a pass towards Decker – if DT can get his head out of his ass and look back for the ball, that play has a chance. Same on the play earlier as he watched the DB jump for a pick right in front of him and stood flat-footed on the ground.

Tim Tebow has started 4 games. Why must everyone judge him as though he's a 10-year vet?

by TheMorseFile on Oct 30, 2011 6:58 PM MDT up reply actions

hmmm

Have to agree with 1 2 4 5. But Decker is our best offensive player he’s young and hes better than everyone else. Tebows decision making should be done quicker the wrs are getting free. His accuracy blows but the o line could not block at all. The run game would help but since mgahee was hurt couldn’t do anything. Defensly dt and mlb have not been there and our secondary is not doing well. The lockout has hurt a lot of the players that still need practice and learning. Today was an awful day. And Tebow sure hell didn’t do shit today.

A few misconceptions

1. You are correct, but our line is playing at it’s best since possibly 2009, so I’m surprised you are upset with this line when we’ve had a worse one for over a year now.

2. Moreno and Ball are average as well, but they both played extremely well today, especially since they crowded the line a lot and they still broke some great plays. The run game was possibly the only good part of today’s game.

3. Decker proved today he is the best receiver we have, better than Willis, DT or Royal, and that TD run was a thing of beauty, that took fight.

4. Royal actually had a career year last year in every important category, the only area he was really down was yards, which is a meaningless stat since he missed games.

5. I do agree about our defense.

This team is young, is bad in a lot of areas, but don’t take it out on positions that don’t deserve it.

Do you honestly think Moreno starts for a single NFL team as their RB?
Do you honestly think Royal is a top 5 or even top 10 slot WR?

You are watching a different team that me, but you’ve been right on DT. That guy is killing me with his lack of ability to run routes, makes plays on the ball or know how to run away from DBs to get open. DT was just brutally awful today. He needs another TC more than Tebow and Franklin

Yes I do, and there's proof he's a starting RB, and Royal is a top 5 slot WR

Both those are proven, and repeated, facts. Moreno isn’t great, not saying that, and I do think McGahee should continue to get the most carries. But Moreno the last two seasons has played like a starting running back, that’s a fact, pure and simple. Will he in the future, not sure, but as for up to this point, he’s played like a starter. As for Royal, I’ve proven, with facts, not just ranting or emotion, that Royal is among the best slot guys in the NFL, and have yet to receive, hear or read anything logical saying otherwise.

except those are in years past

None of that has happened this year. None. Royal, Moreno, and even DT all performed better last year than this year. Chances are this will be what they will be for the rest of the season. DT gets a small pass because he has not been on the field much, but not the other guys, especially Royal. I don’t think they have used Royal correctly at all this year, but he has been far from inspired in his play this year

Former regime

Thats what happens when the former coach had 4 1st round picks the last 2 years and not 1 of them is an impact player. Robert Ayers is a good role player, Moreno is a total disappointment and no way should we have traded 3 picks to select Tebow in the 1st round. As far as D. Thomas is concerned, wasn’t there a guy named D. Bryant we could have drafted in that spot? Not good….

Seeing Scheff today made me hate McJedi all the more. Why utilize a guy that does a few things well when you can just draft or sign bunch of versatile players that don’t do any one thing well. Just do a bunch of things at a below average level.

Nice strategy McJedi. Forget specialization when you can have less than mediocre versatility.

Correcting Maxwell's misconceptions

not sure which team maxwell is watching. Eddie Royal is not a top 5 slot reciever in the NFL. He caught 59 passes last year for 627 yards and 3 TD’ts. Average numbers, but not top 5. This year he has 12 catches for 106 yards. Two years ago he had 37 catches for 345 yards. Only in his rookie season was he a top 5 slot wide reciever. Those are the facts.
As for Moreno, he is not a NFL caliber starter, he ran 14 times for 69 yards today and most of that was in garbage time when the lions backed up into a prevent. We did not convert one third down in the first half. We didnt have 100 yards by half. The running game was not working. Lance Ball ran 6 times for 63 yards and 34 yards of that came on his first run . Dont hallucinate that the running game was solid or that the o line was doing well.
Your thought that the o line this year is ahead of the o line from the 2009 squad….is simply your opinion without fact. Our o line is better than last year but still hovers between average and below average depending on the series.
Just because Decker is the best receiver on our team doesn’t make him a #1 worthy receiver, I like the kid, he reminds me of Eddie McCaffery, but he is a solid #2 receiver in talent. My point is that Tebow is hindered now that Brandon Lloyd is gone.

on a two win team there is plenty of blame to go around, don’t shield players that you like and ignore the facts.
