As a former sports reporter, I really can't stand most sports reporters... - Mile High Report
A caveat here, I wasn't a member of the MSM, but I did use my position to get many a sideline pass to some awesome college football games. Armed with my trusty camera bag concealing a bottle of spiced rum I roamed many a stadium sideline in my younger days taking pictures of cheereaders and writing just the facts reports with the use of a post game cup of hard black coffee and someone elses' box scores.

Tebow/Broncos Offense by the numbers: WK 9 Raiders - Mile High Report
Well about three weeks ago, I stated that I was going to do a weekly series about the Broncos offensive play-calling and production.  The problem was my methods for presenting the stats was a bit too cumbersome and contained way more waste than necessary.  I’ve since refined my categories and presentations so that there are only three brief grids to look at, and this is a model that is more practical moving forward.

Musical Mid-season Broncos review - Mile High Report
Mid-season reviews are typically the sports pundits opportunity to gloat about their pre-season predictions, chastise other analysts obvious idiocy since they didn't agree, and in essence BS away their fictional version of why the NFL season has progressed as it has.  Statistical prognostications for the 2nd half of the season reach unparalleled absurdity and everyone including your girlfriend gives their "lock" for the Super Bowl.

5 Tim Tebow tidbits you might not be aware of - Mile High Report
The QB stats don't lie. Tim Tebow has had an impressive debut as a starter. Sure he didn't finish in the top 3 in every category but he definitely is in the mix. What is really impressive is that Tebow so far has a tendency not to throw picks. A 2.75 TD/INT ratio for a newcomer is out of this world. In contrast most of the pundits treat Tebow like he is chopped liver.

Maybe I'm just being snippy,

But I’d like to know who those NFL players thought was “overrating” Tim Tebow. Fans? That’s the only possible group that I can see as being an answer. He sure isn’t overrated by the media. Over-discussed, perhaps – but definitely not overrated.

We are a crappy team, with some crappy players at every position.

Well Tony Romo is overrated by the Media.

I would guess its just the perception of the individual there.

The KC Chiefs have had a roller coaster season much like our but different...

Listen to Sound FX where NFL films believed they were the real deal after trouncing the tRaiders the week before. In one part Todd Haley was tealling his ass’t to tell the players to quit ‘hob knobbing’ with the other players and get their heads in the game…The result was a painful lose to the lowly Miami Dolphins who hadn’t won a game all season. Haley’s attitude towards his players and the way he coaches leaves me to believe he is losing his locker room. Sure he isn’t afraid to go against the grain or the text book way, as we saw he do in preseason not playing his starters in the first game and then over playing them in the end. It’s go to be inovative, but there comesa time when common sense prevails…

What Chiefs team will show up this week? Go Broncos for improving every week and beating the tRaiders…

So out of nearly 1800 NFL players, 111 even answered that poll.

Very scientific. About 5-6% of players who would even allow themselves to be bothered with this poll don’t know what the word overrated means.

Read "John" and "Tim" comments at the end of the "Tebow the most overrated..." article,

perhaps the most bizarre exchange I’ve ever read.

What today's players use to grade someones worth is the money

they are making or generating. Tebow apparel and other merchandise fly off the shelves. I believe this is what they mean when they say he’s overrated. Money talks to these guys. If any of them were paying attention, it’s quite clear TT is negatively scrutinized at a level that I’ve never seen before in my 50 yrs of being a Bronco’s fan.

This Penn State nightmare is disturbing and most unfortunate, but it’s so very nice not having Tim Tebow be the focal point of everything football.

The peace and quiet around Tim & Denver this week has been much appreciated. MSM, please continue to leave us alone so we can rebuild like most teams (in relative obscurity).

I have sworn off ESPN because of its coverage.

ESPN has crossed the line from sports reporting to editorializing with an agenda. Regardless of that agenda, it’s wrong.

Denver at Kansas City

Here is an example of circuitous and false logic. A scribe tried to make the point that because the Broncos had beaten the Dolphins and the Dolphins had beaten the Chiefs last week, that the Chiefs should therefore should beat the Broncos on Sunday.

Anyone with an elementary standing of math can see how illogical this premise is. Instead the premise should be that the Broncos should beat the Chiefs. But in the NFL that kind of logic simply does NOT work.

We all know that the Broncos have won 2 of their last 3 games under Tebow and the Chiefs despite the Dolphins loss last Sunday have won 4 of their last 5 games played.

But if you ask most NFL coaches and sports’ pundits they will most often throw cold water on the idea of momentum in the NFL determining any particular game.

So if momentum is NOT the determining factor in the outcome of the game what will be? Here are 5 factors that imho will determine the outcome of the game;

a) Turnovers-who wins the net turnover battle; in case you haven’t kept track, Tebow has only been intercepted once this year while throwing 6 TD passes while Cassel has been intercepted 9 times while throwing 9 TD passes.

As a team over the entire season the Chiefs are -1 in turnovers while the Broncos are -5 but with Tebow at the helm starting the Broncos are 0 in the past 3 games.

b) The health of the respective teams. There is word now that the Broncos will be healthier this week than they have been for a long time.

c) How do the defenses of the Broncos and the Chiefs stack up against the run?

Broncos: 115.5 yards/game

Chiefs: 120.2 yards/game

d) Home field advantage

e) Red zone conversion

For the last 3 games:

Denver Broncos (under Tebow):3 out 6 (50%)

KC Chiefs: 3 out of 8 (37.5%)

Conclusion:

If not for the home field advantage to the Chiefs, I would give the Broncos the slight edge. But since the Chiefs are playing at home the fact that the oddsmakers have made the Chiefs a 3 point favorite is NOT out of line.

But the unknown factor is how duplicatable is the “read offense” and can the KC defense which has only had a week to prepare for it really stop Tebow? If they can prevent Tebow from getting more than 50 yards in rushing and cause him to throw a pick or two, KC will win, but if KC allows Tebow to rush for over 100 yards with no picks I really believe Denver has an excellent chance to prevail.

by technopeasant on Nov 10, 2011 10:39 AM MST reply actions

Good points techno but I do agree with the point spread that we get 3.

I certainly hope Tebow does not need 100 yrs rushing for the team to win,

This game is going

to give us a much better idea of how much Tebow’s passing skills have improved. This could be Decker’s breakout game with DThomas right behind him. Is it Sunday yet?

Don't forget to add in one little stat.

Chiefs are dead last in sacks in the NFL…9 all season.
I don’t think Tebow will be under the intense pressure we have seen without the Chief paying a price.

even though the broncos were super effective in running the ball against oakland, their playcalling was just too predictable and rather boring. they need to open it up in the passing game. i am still waiting for tebow to throw over 250 yards, which i firmly believe he is capable of. it wasn’t just his running skills that made him remarkable at florida. it was his ability as a passer, first and foremost.

A rule in sports

If something is working, stay with it until the opposition can stop it.

The “read option” is more than a temporary solution or gimmick. It is a legitimate offensive strategy that should NOT be dismissed.

Dare the Chiefs to stop it. The Broncos should stay unconventional imho.
