BRONCOS @ CHIEFS BY THE NUMBERS, Tebow stats, and other thoughts

Here are the week 10 numbers for both Tim Tebow and our Offense.  I’ll include some breakdowns after the numbers, but I want to say it feels damn good for our TEAM to go on the road two weeks in a row and physically dominate our hated AFC west rivals!!!  Great win guys!!!

*KNEELDOWN

-Even though Tebow threw 4 incompletions in the first half, three of them were deep passes down the sidelines, and one was a dropped shovel pass to Eddie Royal.  In the second half, 2 poorly thrown balls including one that was thrown at Donte Rosario’s feet, and 2 completions, one to Willis and one to Decker for a deep TD.  Still hard to guage improvements in accuracy due to lack of middle range throws and drops.

- The yards, yards per carry, and average decreased steadily all game.  We all witnessed it and wanted more passes called, but up 10-0 for most of the 1st half, and 17-7 most of the fourth quarter against a poor K.C. offense, Fox decided to lean on his defense to get stops.  This will work against lesser offensive opponents, but will falter against other foes---something to keep in mind for future situations.

- The offense put itself in more manageable third downs by limiting the negative plays and penalties (only 2 in the fourth quarter), and by getting consistent yardage on 1st and second down.

- The 2nd quarter continues to be a nemesis for our Broncos, they failed to convert a 3rd down, and only managed 3 points-----in Tebow’s 7 starts, the offense has only scored a TOTAL of 6 points in the 2nd quarter.

- Tim Tebow was not sacked, although he shouldn't be sacked with only 8 attempts.

- Out of 11 offensive drives on Sunday, the Broncos offense had a three and out 4 times(36%).

- Out of 24 offensive drives the past two games, the Broncos have gone three and out 7 times (29%).

- In Tebow’s first two starts this year, the offense has gone three and out 13 times in 30 drives (43%).

- In Tebow’s first three starts this year, the Broncos had 210 total plays with 77 of them (37%) going for no gain or a negative gain.  On Sunday, out of 63 total plays, 13 of them (20%) went for no gain or a negative gain.

- Out of a total of 272 offensive snaps in his first four starts, the offense has totaled 53 plays (19%) of 10 yards or more---big plays have been plentiful.

- As the Broncos have moved to a more run-oriented offense, Tebow went from being sacked 13 times in his first two starts this year, to being sacked once in the past two games.

- Out of 95 attempts, Tebow has thrown 5 TD’s and 1 INT, which means that he is averaging a TD every 19 attempts and an INT every 95 attempts.

- So far this year Tebow has rushed for 282 yards on 41 carries for a 6.9 average, and has passed for 526 yards on 95 attempts for a 5.5 average.  Per completion, Tim is averaging 12.2 yards.

- In the last four games, the offense has rushed for 905 yards on 163 carries for a 5.6 average.

- In the last two games, the offense has rushed for 543 yards on 93 carries for a 5.8 average.

- The run to pass ratio and percentage during Tebow’s first four starts is about 3-2 or 60/40.

- In the last two starts, the run to pass ratio and percentage is about 3-1 or 76/24.

I promised before that I would include previous games in Tebow’s/Offensive output numbers, so here they are, his first 7 starts broken down by game and other goodies:

All in all, I’m not as disappointed as some about the lack of throwing.  We are right in the thick of the AFC West race, and it is Fox’s style to want to control the game on the ground and play field-position.  With our punting unit, this isn’t a bad idea.  On Thursday, look for more of the same against the Jets, it should be a smashmouth, low-scoring, physical game and I for one am looking forward to another victory!  Run the ball Mr. Fox, and make plays when you need to Timmy!

GO BRONCOS!!!
