If I told you that Tim Tebow would go two of eight passing on Sunday while Willis McGahee and Knowshon Moreno left the game early with an injury, you'd assume that a) the Chiefs rolled the Broncos and b) Tebow got benched. Broncos vs Chiefs Studs and Duds - Mile High Report
Another game. Another dominant rushing performance. Another victory. I could get used to this winning thing. For the first time since 2009, the Broncos won back to back games after beating the Kansas City Chiefs at Arrowhead by a score of 17-10. The talk of the day was undoubtedly the fact that Tim Tebow only threw 8 passes and completed just 2 of them. We are going to talk about all that and much more so let's jump into the Studs and Duds.

I’ll leave for others to argue and debate the fashion in which the Denver Broncos got their win on Sunday afternoon. Happy Monday McGeorge
You have been saying for a long time that KC’s 1st round defensive lineman picks were not very good, and I think the Broncos emphatically proved your point yesterday. How bad does it suck for the Chiefs to get beat like that? People are making fun of Denver for turning the NFL back 30 years, but why not if the lame ass Chiefs can’t stop it?
Interesting stats at the bottom of one of DPs articles
show the lowest passing attempts in Denver’s games from the past and in every one of those games that had low passing attempts in them the team recorded a win….hmmm. Perhaps having a strong running game is not such a bad thing after all. (just ask John Elway)

Gaff and Lloyd both worked with TT in the off season. It would be nice if we still had one of them.
That Tyson Jackson and Glenn Dorsey are two of the highest paid D-linemen in the NFL is good fun for me. Both of them are below average starters, esp Jackson. And Dorsey left on a cart yesterday.

I don't get the bashing on the Offense yesterday
I overheard a conversation at work. People were bashing the lack of a passing attack this morning. And when I said, “you don’t need to pass when you are averaging 5 yards per carry” they laughed at me.
Can someone honestly explain this to me? If something is working, why stray? It’s the other teams job to stop it! If McCoy and Fox saw something in KC where they said, “you know what? We can run it 45+ times and have success”. Then why not do it? Plus with another game in a few days, why not tote the rock and save our defense along with not expelling much energy from our skill positions.
I’m serious, please help me understand, because I honestly don’t get it.
I think it was fine Yesterday against the Chiefs and it worked, but sometimes you are gonna have to put more than 17 points on the board.

What could be more discouraging than having the other team continually blow your defense off the line and ram the ball right down your throat. I would not have wanted to watch that game yesterday if I was a Chief’s fan.

The final score
Was not very indicative of how bad we beat them. There was a six point swing there in garbage time. Denver owned the LOS for the majority of the game! When you only have to complete two forward passes to secure a victory, that is dominance. KC only had one good drive and couldn’t even get a touchdown when we were playing prevent.

Out of the 30 starting QB’s who have played so far in week 10, 24 of them have had a lower passer rating than Tebow and of these 24 only 4 of them failed to throw a pick.
For anyone to suggest Tebow is the worst starting QB in the NFL currently is simply wrongheaded and indicative that one has an agenda.
After watching the game yesterday, Matt Cassel might be the worst starting QB. The Redskins QB of the week, Josh Freeman and Colt or nipping at his heels.

COME ON!
Are we really this stupid?
Let’s see how Tebow’s rating is when he attempts 30 passes. God I wish people would GET REAL. I love Tebow, but GET REAL.
by Tim Lynch on Nov 14, 2011 9:34 AM MST up reply actions 1 recs
Tim, I don't think anyone's stupid but there are other things to consider...
Tebow got only 8 passing attempts per game average in 8 quarters of his last 4 games. Against the 23rd veraged passing defense in the league.
Tebow had over 40 pass plays against the Lions 5th best passing defense in the league.
Does Fox plan on passing it 40 times next week, against the 6th best passing defense; while abandoning the run like they did against the Lions in the first half?
Point is giving Tebow only 4 passing attempts a half does not lend itself to Tebow increasing his completion percentage, especially when most pass are a high risk deep pass play rather than the high percentage pass plays Orton threw seemingly 99% of the time.
Yesterday, with the lead they had….would have been a perfect time to ‘practice’ rythm and chemistry with the recievers we have left, This is where blance comes into play. At least that’s what I was yelling for.
Gaff and Lloyd both worked with TT in the off season. It would be nice if we still had one of them.
I was referring to using QB Rating as a point to show how great Tebow is.
That is where the COME ON comes from. If I could have rolled my eyes any harder I would have gone blind.
c'mon, I think Cassell would trade all of his passes for Tebows 2 completions, the win and QB rating! QB rating is
as much about how the team did as it is about the QBs passing ability.

Conversely, are we really learning anything from Tebow?
I still don’t know if he can play QB long term. Eventually, this type of offense will be stopped…just like the Wildcat with the Dolphins.
I think so.
It appears that he is doing a little better with dropping back from behind center, and is showing the ability to change the play before the snap as well as make split second decisions.
I also think that going to the run so often is stalling his development as a passer, that being said, I don’t think we will truly know if he can develop into a decent passer until he has had a full off-season with the 1st team offense.

i agree
he seems to be making great reads as far as keeping the ball vs handing off. Hopefully he can translate that skill to make great reads in passing as well.
We are also learning he protects the ball very well. Which is something we really need. Turnovers are too much for our team to recover from on a regular basis.

Precisely. I keep asking myself is this the coaches problem or TT's?
Are they being too conservative in their play calling? Or are they doing the right thing because TT cannot do more? I guess I want to find out, let him pass more, 20x per game, with 30 runs. Let me see him do more than hand off 20 times and then throw the bomb. I think they have set it up terrifically for the short passing game to become effective now…I was shocked when we did not see him make a few more intermediate-short throws based on KCs obvious prep to stop the option and the run. This should be a “the glass is half-full” situation for the offense, we should have plenty of options on offense between the complex running system we have in place and the options it opens up in the passing game…imho. TT does not need to be Brady now, just average to above average in the passing game. It’s sort of a reverse Elway situation. We have a really good running game and now need to come up with a complimentary passing game.

I think Thursday pits
the league’s two most inefficient passers against each other…..and only one can run effectively.
For all you guys that so want to draft a QB in round 1… sorry, but we’ll likely be drafting behind the several teams that want a QB desperately.
You can guarantee that these teams will have QB as their #1 priority in the 2012 draft: Miami, Washington, Seattle, Arizona, Cleveland (sorry Colt, but you suck), Kansas City, Tampa Bay (perhaps) and Indy (I think they draft Luck and cut Manning). Most, if not all, of those teams will be picking before Denver. Considering Luck, Barkely and Jones will all be gone by the 5th pick… doesn’t look like we’ll get one. The guy at Baylor is too much like Tebow so he won’t be an option either.
You guys may want to start scouting the 2nd tier of QBs for our later picks (check out Foles & Tannehill).

I doubt they cut him
If anything they would let him retire to a coaching position. But one does not cut Peyton and I don’t see a Favre situation either, Peyton is smart enough to know when to say hang up his hat.
Due to his some clauses in his contract, he is un-tradeable.
Indy could trade out of the 1st round pick, but it’s not like they are only player away right now. Their D is getting old and isn’t good. Their best WR and TE are old. Their O-line isn’t good and their RBs are not good.
They’d be smart to take Luck and start from scratch.

Just like DT needs to learn how to run routes and play football, Julius Thomas needs the same things and Royal needs to learn how to catch passes that hit his hands.
Tebow needs A LOT of work and so do our WRs/TEs. Or maybe we just need several new WRs.
The offseason, dedicated coaching, TC and a proper game play that doesn’t include the BS offense McCoy was running for Orton/Tebow early in the year should help Tebow tremendously.

He wasnt bad yesterday.
He had one bad pass, and one medium pass in 8 attempts. He could have easily been 5 of 8. He had few opportunities yesterdays, but he didn’t look as bad as the Tebow caricature who “can’t hit the broadside of a barn.” His wrs are nothing to write home about, and Ball has stone hands. His deep balls yesterday were in line with what I see from veteran nfl qbs.

If the JETS’ players think the Broncos are patsies, then Tebow and company have the Jets where they want them.
How many sports’ pundits will pick the Broncos to beat the Jets?
Answer: How many pundits picked the Broncos to beat the Chiefs yesterday?
About zero. Just like vs Oakland. I like this underdog role A LOT.
Tim Tebow's career record is 4-3. He is the worst 1st round pick EVER! He is an embarrassment to the NFL! Did I say that with enough conviction to get a job with ESPN?
Almost feels like the 80's again!
I became a Broncos fan because they were the underdog back then. First back to back wins in nearly two years feels pretty good!

Not true. 3 out of 6 CBS writers had us taking the game.

OK fair point but 40% of the CBS writers liked us for the game, which is not close to zero or about zero.
Sorry I just don’t buy all this the media hates us crap. As we start winning more games then the wind will change. But we have to win games first.
I don’t understand why so many here love bashing the MSM. Its up to the Broncos to put a winning product on the road consistently first, not the job of the MSM to praise us when we are still sitting below .500.
Respect comes with winning.

selective results? 2/5 CBS writers, 0/8 ESPN writers [plus 2 for accuscore/pick em]. So 2/15.
We were not favored — that is the point, we were the underdog. We were the underdog against the raiders and we will be the underdog again this week.
The Jets are 5-4, with four of their wins coming at home. We are 4-5 with one win coming at home.
There are very few people who [I imagine] could see us going 3-1 coming out of our bye week considering there were three road games and two of those were in conference.
We have won 3 of our last 4 — celebrate!
Even if we win, I bet we will be the underdog at San Diego the following week and we probably should be the underdog there too. I think @Minnesota will be the only non underdog game for us on the schedule still, although I guess KC here we might get favored.
by Todd Jewell on Nov 14, 2011 10:16 AM MST up reply actions
Oh trust me I am celebrating Todd - no question about that.
Yeah OK I’ll concede the point to a certain extent although will you give me Waltfootball as he had us for the win? So that makes 3/16….:)
Still not about zero though, although we are possibly arguing semantics so I’ll concede the point to you gracefully.
Really my point is not about whether we are down as underdogs or not – but there is this idea by some at MHR that the MSM doesn’t give us enough respect. And as a result the MSM writers are all morons etc. Not saying you are saying that Todd by the way just to be clear.
Call me naive but I actually have a high respect for American journalists/writers. They are just doing their jobs. But the vitriol that comes their way sometimes from the internet strikes me as nasty. I have this irrational urge to stick up for them!
Like I said we need to win to get respect. That strikes me as fair.

Throw in Yahoo too—all three of their staff picked Chiefs, and also the users’ popular vote. I think CBS, ESPN, Fox Sports and Yahoo pretty much covers all the major online outlets, and I don’t see any picks on the Fox site, just odds.

I'm siding with McGeorge on this one...
McGeorge said “about zero” (of “sports pundits”), he didn’t say “about zero of CBS picks”.
As was pointed out, picks on ESPN were 10 for 10 picking KC over Denver.

That is just two of six actually (try counting that again) and I don’t read hacks like Piscco and CBS Sportsline. It’s a 4th rate site.

Jets have to overcome a mental and physical beatdown on a short week, they have a long flight, and have to prepare for an offense that’s not ran in the nfl, plus ill never bet against the broncos anyway. I also love being the underdog. The patriots exposed some weakness on the jets o-line that should allow von miller to have a multiple sack game. Go Broncos

If I were Rex Ryan, I'd tell the jets players to tighten up their chinstraps because it's going to be a physical game from start to finish.

Really? Which Jets fans think this? All of them? Got a link to how the entire Jets community thinks the Broncos will be a pushover? Certainly not over on our sister site Bleeding Green Nation.
Our very own J-Man was over there – and the reply from the Jets fans so far is they are apporaching Thursday’s games with trepidation. And rightly so.

The Jets defense has to basically re-scheme to face a new offense in 2 days.
Most of the time NFL defenses just have to adjust to the subtle differences between standard NFL offenses, which is easy to do in a week.
The Jets have a short week and have to adjust to something they haven’t seen nor practiced.
I like our advantage there.
I remember the giants coming in here on a short week a couple years back.
Didn’t work out so well for them either.

Ditto
And I like this line from Peter King, of all people, on the Broncos chances: “the advantage for Denver is simple: The Jets have a short practice week to figure out a new offense and have to travel. Who knows? Ride the wave.”
If I can't have high expectations that succeed, I''d rather have high expectations and be disappointed than have low expectations and be resigned to losing.

I’d have to give the Jets the edge.
However, if McGahee is back I’d wouldn’t be surprised at all with a Bronco win. It can be a competitive game.

Aren't we all guzzling the koolaid this morning.
If we do beat an angry Jets team on Thursday, then I’ll certainly jump on board this bandwagon fully.
He better, cause the Jets won't respect him at all.
Our only chance at winning depends on if we get Good Tebow or Bad Tebow.
Get in Shape, Lynch
By the time you make a decision, you’ll have to run to catch the bandwagon.

Well, I'm not jumping on a bandwagon that hasn't shown me anything that resembles a quarterback.
If Tebow can’t play quarterback then I will be jumping on the “draft a QB in 2012” bandwagon. Hate to say it, but the crap we are running right now is NOT a long term strategy for success. Mark it down. I just hope it works long enough to win a playoff game. :P
Kind of my thoughts…while it felt we dominated Yesterday, we only won by 7 points and are one play away from losing that game. So far when we played a game where we had to score points to keep up with a team, it didn’t go very well. If we command the game by scoring first I think we stand a chance, but if we have to score points I feel we are screwed.

Remember that Chris Harris pick when the Raiders were driving up 7 in the 3rd quarter. Interception, 60 yard TD run and see ya! Momentum never returned to the Raiders.

The Broncos coaching staff and verterans need to make sure they don't come out flat. Because the Jets won't that's for sure.
They shouldn’t do – after a 2 week winning streak on the road the Broncos need to take this momentum into the home stadium.

Gaff and Lloyd both worked with TT in the off season. It would be nice if we still had one of them.
What are some peoples thoughts about putting in Kyle Orton during 2 minute drills?
Like Yesterday at the end of the half we were about 15 yards from FG position but we ran the ball and punted with about a minute left. I would be completely fine just letting Kyle Orton handle those pure passing situations and let him dink and dunk with 5 wide. It would be a huge change of pace for the defense.
A baseball park is the one place where a man's wife doesn't mind his getting excited over somebody else's curves
I have to admit, now that we are in the think of the playoff chase, I say whatever they need to do to win games they should do. But I in no way think they will do it. Kind of like how they didn’t put Tebow in once we got inside the 10 when Orton was starting, I think they like just one guy. Most people do for that matter.
Yeah I know the NFL hates the whole 2 QB thing and what not, but I think the idea holds some merit.

Why take the ball out of TTs hands during the time
when he is so much more effective than Orton ever was? And if you think you had QB controversy when Tebow was sitting on the bench behind Orton, try bringing Orton back now…

Tebow is 2-1 as Denver’s starting quarterback this season. The Broncos continue to audition him. They want to see him become an effective passer. It is not happening. But as long as the Broncos win, they will have patience with Tebow.
3-1. The last sentence really sticks in my craw. What, no magic insider knowledge to divulge? Or even an opinion about the secret recipe to determining a franchise QB, or the ‘patience’ they should have with a first round pick? Was the story that KC’s offense looked discombobulated or that their defense gave up a lot of rushing yards? How about Denver’s rushing attack and effective defense, or Tebow’s contributions to the winning result? No…? Well OK thanks, I am so much more well-informed for reading Captain Obvious and his insights – now don’t risk pissing off the Chiefs fans, Bill, because the easy targets are all here in Denver. Sheesh. </SARCASM END TAG>
Balanced offense
I think a team with a great passing attack needs about half runs to keep the defense honest. A great running team only needs a few long pass attempts to keep the defense honest because a missed run comes with a small price, but a missed pass is a score. It is ironic the Fox may revolutionize the game.
And to everybody who brings up miami’s wildcat as the proof that it can’t work, miami didn’t have Tebow running it.

I may be wrong
But… It seems to me that the Broncos are playing a better game in all areas. No I don’t believe that they have it right yet, but the winning is indicative of better play. Love to get a win against Jets tho. Payback for that loss last season… GO DENVER!!!
