Knowshon Moreno To Injured Reserve With Torn ACL; Willis McGahee 'Day-to-Day'
Knowshon Moreno's injury-plagued career has taken another turn - this time to the Injured Reserve list. The Broncos running back tore the ACL in his knee during yesterday's 17-10 win over the Kansas City Chiefs and will require surgery.
Broncos head coach John Fox made the announcement during his weekly press conference earlier on Monday.
"I feel for him," said Fox. "He battled and was having a really, really good day. It's unfortunate.I feel for him. He battled .... and was having a really, really good day. It's unfortunate."
The Broncos will likely bring running back Jeremiah Johnson up from the practice squad to take Moreno's spot on the roster, especially considering the Broncos have a short week to prepare for Thursday night's home game against the New York Jets.
Fox also gave an update on the team's other injured running back, calling Willis McGahee 'day-to-day' with a hamstring injury he suffered in the 1st quarter against the Chiefs. The Broncos will return to the practice field on Tuesday.

Awful News
I feel terrible for Knowshon. He was on his way to having another dominant performance against the Chiefs—the one team he seems to destroy. He seemed to be over his hamstring injury only to incur a worse injury. Such is life in the NFL.
I think the Broncos need to do more than promote Jeremiah Johnson. I think signing a veteran back is paramount—especially in light of McGahee’s hamstring injury, and how much Denver runs the ball every game.
Correll Buckhalter
I know he is 32, but he played very well for the Broncos down the stretch in 2010, and developed great rapport with Tebow—especially on screen plays, check downs, and other passes out of the backfield. Those are throws we have to start incorporating and making in this offense with Tebow at the helms.

The way he runs, so spastic with arms and legs everywhere...
… I wonder if he leaves himself more open to injury. For instance on the run he was injured on, his legs were splayed like a frog in a biology class right before he got hit. Just wonder if that has anything to do with his “injury bug”.
Maya: "What are your first impressions of Denver?"
Mozgov: "I must break you..."
Injury Prone, But
He had about five guys fall on his knee at a very odd angle yesterday. I thought Moreno’s four carries yesterday were some of his most fluid, best running-form of the season.
especially that one where he hurdled a defender
that was a thing of beauty!
If the Jets have a fourth and a foot situation, Rex will probably go for it
see replay
I thought he got hit from behind by his own player. I agree that he needs to do a better job of protecting himself but that doesn’t necessarily explain this injury. My impression is that part of the injury-prone reputation is urban legend. We’ve yet to come up with science-based criteria for distinguishing bad luck from a real medical condition that is “injury prone.” I’m open to explanations based on biological science but I’m also wary of “because McDaniels drafted him” opinions, which clearly exist.
******* George Santayana described fanaticism as -- "redoubling your effort after you've forgotten your aim"
what a bummer KM can't catch a break...
the injury bug seems to really have his number, good luck, and heres to hoping that we can bring someone in that can keep the running game rolling

Moreno is going to IR, that frees a spot for Johnson without needing to release Rosario or any player for that matter.

Horrible timing for the young man
Knowshon was quickly having the best game of his young career, and I even imagine a few screen passes going his way (he’s the best on our team at this) for chunk yardage / TD’s late in that game.
I would normally say that this was the end of the Moreno experiment in Denver, but I’ve heard Coach Fox talk about him, and he seems to love him. If Knowshon can 100% recover, and play a full offseason, preseason, and regular season, then I say keep him. I also won’t be mad if we draft Trent “the Beast” Richardson either though, in that case, I still say we keep Knowshon.

I feel for terrible for Moreno. The look he had on his face sitting on the bench after the injury nearly broke my heart and told me he would be gone for awhile. It sucks even worse because while he has been injury prone this injury had nothing to that. It was just a freak accident where someone landed on his leg wrong causing it to bend a way it shouldn’t.
And now for something completely different
Sadness
Man, I feel so bad for Knowshon Moreno. Another year, another injury, just as he starts to look good again. Has to be awful feeling. I really feel for him, I do. It’s frustrating for us because he’s so injury prone but just imagine if it this kept happening to you. I’m with Alberta, I just felt awful when I saw that look on his face.
In the short term, I hope McGahee can go on Thursday. I also really like Jeremiah Johnson as someone to give a shot to.

May also be headed to IR with a significant hand injury. The Chiefs are going to struggle to win another game the rest of the season with or without Cassel. Their schedule is murderous. Hopefully, that means the Chiefs finish last, that way we won’t have to play the Colts next season with Manning back or against Andrew Luck.

It took me a long time to get a more accurate read on McD than I had at first impression. Now I have to watch out for swinging too far the other way. Time is the only thing that will help clarify this. I have to admit, though, even MSM has not said as much about Haley as they did McD.

Your threads over at AP were looking like ours when Orton was under-performing, and my guess is it was not much fun for the fan base to have that going on. After watching some our the calls B.Muir has made as O.C i’d like to say the same thing to him.

So, did Belichick make all of his coaches sign
an agreement that they have to wear hoodies? c’mon guys, be original!

No
He sent them out with orders to make all conference rivals into crappy disfunctional teams within 2 years of being hired.
he is then, truly an evil genius because it's working!

NEXT!
Seriously…this guy can’t catch a break.
I saw some good flashes from Johnson in the pre-season though. He may be a serviceable 2nd or 3rd back.

Honestly, I hope this closes the era of Knowshon Moreno...
The boy can’t stay healthy and it was a wasted McDaniels first round pick…Bring in a bruiser like Trent Richardson and be done with it for a while…
How Do Guarantee Richardson Won't Be Another 1st Round RB Flop?
Moreno was highly durable in college and a can’t miss prospect. There is no guarantees in the NFL.
Moreno has had his moments
whenever we play the Chiefs at Arrowhead, one game out of 16 where he runs like a demon isn’t enough though, I will give him one last chance after he becomes healthy again

He will be decent RB depth for cheap next year, he will be back for at least the duration of his contract, I would guess.
He is a great athlete
You cant predict someones durability in the draft so I wouldnt call it a bad pick. Maybe he will come back next year bulked up. That could help.

but, if we had drafted him from rd. 2 on we would be in love with the guy...

Why do you say that?
He is completely invisible the vast majority of the time.

I agree 100%
Moreno has been a bust. He is completely ineffective in 90% of games and is extraordinarily injury-prone. I have nothing against the guy and feel for him, but I don’t think the NFL is going to work out for him.
by thekingofjoy on Nov 14, 2011 11:22 PM MST up reply actions
Not saying he would be a starter, but he certainly has NFL talent, would be and will be
a good back-up here or for someone else. Not a first round talent, but that is not his problem but our FO. Just saying if he were drafted in, say, the 3rd round we would all be happy with him the way we are with Ball or now, Johnson. The guys on the bench always look like pro-bowlers…

I personally would still be unhappy even if he had been drafted in the 6th round. He rarely plays due to injury and when he does, he’s unproductive. Of course, he will always be judged more harshly due to his draft position, but save for those two runs in the Chiefs game prior to his injury, he’s been atrocious this year.

More Injury News
Matt Schuab may have a serious foot injury. He’s headed to Charlotte to see a foot specialist. I don’t think it’s a Dr. Rex Ryan, however.
J Johnston
So I am watching some Johnson highlights and it looks pretty much like the option we have been running lately. I think he will feel very comfortable and he could very well make some plays. Kid is FAST.
I like that he hits the hole....
Seems like a downhill runner. I’m a little nervous that Houston let him go though. Obviously Foster is a beast, but the way they run, I have to assume there is a reason this guy was available.
we'll have to sign all aspects of his personality. What were they again? Southeast Jerome, Dollah Bill, and uh the 3rd one .... EPA?

Crap
Every time this kid starts to fins a niche he gets hurt. Good luck to him. Get well soon. Hope Willis isn’t too bad.
I also hope we start throwing the ball better. And more often. The Jets will probably be more of a challenge than the Chefs.
"Thank the Lord I don't have to live with the roller coaster that you all make out of my life" - Tim Tebow
ok
we needed to move on from moreno, anyway, and we do need a stud back to pair with willis next season. the downside is for now we lost speed to the outside and the other assets that knowshon does possess. but i’m not devastated. heal quickly mcgahee. is clady ok? we cannot afford OL injuries right now.
tebow/mcgahee/ball/johnson/larsen. in pounds that’s 235/235/220/200/243. we also have fb quinn johnson at 263, new rb xavier omon at 227, or russ hochstein at 300, if necessary. see what i’m saying? we just need to throw on 3rd-6 or more, and we can move the chains, etc. 2 td’s in the air should win most games. where is demarius?
ground and pound? 3 yards and a cloud of dust? smash-mouth, even? this team reminds me of the craig kreinzel-led ohio state buckeyes team that won the title. ugly. the more i think about it, the less i see in terms of great run defense around this pass-happy league, including ours. we may be ok
taste my blintzkrieg!
the 3-man rush is an admission of lunacy, cowardice, and defeat.
Sorry for you knowshon but this is how it goes
I think we can officially declare Kno-play a bust, I know-fo sho I do. Continually hurt, not a back that can move a pile, not fast enough in open space to break the big one, a better threat in the screen game, and a decent blocker on 3rd down does not equate to 1st round talent OR production. I sincerely hope that he is quickly cut after the end of the season and we can be done with McDaniels’ first draft mistake. It is also looking like 2010 was a complete disaster because DT is seriously not any sort of a threat receiving—ya gotta know the playbook dude. So Save for Tebow, Beadles, and Decker for sure, 2010 sucked, besides Robert Ayers (played well at his natural position this year), 2009 sucked. Thank goodness that douche McD didn’t have an opportunity to mess 2011 up!
Small
Small running backs are prone to injury. The Eric dickerson big lean back, or Jerome Bettis big fat bastard, tub of lard back is what I would scout for myself. No shelf life in a little mf ’er
