Dear NFL... Enough Mockery Already!

The NFL is all of a sudden into the satire business.  Only the League, however, can bring attention on themselves.  If a player does it, say Eric Decker taking a knee to salute American troops on Veterans' Day weekend, well, that's 'UNSPORTSMANLIKE' conduct.

The NFL?  They can do as they please and for this Broncos fan it has gotten a bit old.

First, there are the NFL.com Power Rankings for this week:

Tebow-e1321456924124_medium

Star-divide

I can only speak for me, but has a League that does all it can to make it's players anonymous ever mocked a team by calling it by a player's name?  Really?

Ok, so we know what the NFL thinks of the Broncos as a team, but what about Broncos fans?  If their commercial for tomorrow's game against the Jets is any indication, you had better get back out and slop the pigs:

Listen, I am all for satire - when it is done well.  There are plenty of places to go get it - KSK and The Onion for example.  NFL.com and NFL Network are NOT those places.  Stay Classy NFL!

A win against the Jets would shut them up

Hopefully Tebow can pull it off, the Jets are pretty good though.

I agree with the sentiment John but how ironic is it

to have the first comment of the article be “hopefully Tebow can pull it off?” I think there may have been and will be 44 other players active for the game who have contributed in some way or another. I’m loving me some Tebow but did anybody notice the defense in the last game? Decker? Royal? 4 RB contributing? And what about the O-line?? Pretty good game by the kids blocking up front. And how about Colquit….I think he did a heckuva in the field postion game. Team folks, team!! I’ve got a good feeling this week about the Jets game….a little more passing and the defense raising havoc again. And Go BRONCOS!!!!

Jet's are overrated

I’d say Oakland is a better team then them. Better QB, Better running game, and a great D.

I’m not too worried about the Commerical and the Tebow thing, yeah it’s stupid, but that’s the media in 2011 sadly.

I agree, it is getting old

From the Tebow bashing, to our wide receivers, to our defensive backfield being “too old to play”…. the list goes on and on.

We are a laughing stock of the league, and what’s sad is even the league itself acts that way towards us.

It’s pathetic.

I hope we kick the crap out of the Jets make them our whore. Hopefully that will shut them all up!

Doesn’t everyone there have a nice trust fund, drive SUV’s or hybrids, sip on latte’s, and ski all day, every day? Obviously that’s a stereotype, but it seems like almost everyone from Colorado that comes up to Montana fits the stereotype to a tee. AND from what I understand, the new Mile High Stadium also has a somewhat disgraceful yuppie latte atmosphere instead of the raucous rowdy craziness that was at old Mile High… sigh.

ANYHOW… all the Broncos gotta do to shut up the critics and media is just keep winning! F$#K the media and the critics!

One thing to keep in mind folks, this is not likely to go away win or lose Thursday night , or winning season or not, Everyone will need to roll with the punches.

Yahoo fantasy footbal threw a huge Tebow jab a few weeks ago

My buddy and I were sitting around changing our fantasy football teams on Yahoo three weeks back. He had Eddie Royal and was debating whether to put him in (for lack of a better option…yes, his team is that bad). Then we read the brief analysis/recommendation written for each player. It said: “Royal will have a tough time with the worst QB in NFL history throwing to him.”

I s%*& you not.

We reread it over and over. Incredible. Some idiot who writes those just had to sneak that in. It’s part of the whole trend nationally of dissing the Broncos and Tebow whenever possible. I really, really hope we stomp the Jets.

I think it's fine.

Frankly I liked the commercial… But then I was spent my early years in a small mountain town… Despite what we’d like to believe, anyone who’s ever driven from Denver to Nebraska can attest that this isn’t too far from the truth (ever been to Ft. Morgan?). It’s not a stretch that the city that hosts the National Western Stock Show gets portrayed in this way. In fact if you look at this site, you’ll find that:

Colorado’s agricultural production is domintated (75%) by livestock and livestock products, driven by the cattle industry. Over 60% of the state’s agricultural revenues are provided by the growth of cattle and calves.

While it may not be representative of Denver, it is of Broncos Country. Embrace it. They’re our people too. Heck, I thought it was cool they had the guy in a throwback ‘D’ hat.

The commercial ain't no thang

Last week the NFL network portrayed all Charger fans as hip surfer dudes and dudettes, and all Raiders fans as skateboarding teenagers. Does that really represent ALL the fans? No, they’re just having fun and seeing as Bronco country extends to a huge part of the midwest I didn’t think the rancher was a big deal.

Besides, the NFL network can’t always portray the fans accurately. Otherwise that Chargers/Raiders commercial would have been forced to include the Brothels and Crack Dens their fans work/live at.

Whatever

It’s just a joke. If you can’t handle it then get a thicker skin. Drink some stronger Kool-Aid.

The fan base brought it on themselves by objectifying one player over the whole team. Tebow this, Tebow that. Tebow Tebow Tebow.

Tim Tebow is God. He can do no wrong. His farts smell like roses and his tears cure cancer. He struggles not because he needs to improve as a player, but because the NFL needs to abolish the forward pass. It’s not his fault, it’s Merrill Hodge’s fault. It’s the one armed man. It was a defective ball. It was the weather. Whatever.

Don’t chug all that Kool-Aid by the gallon and then get mad when people start to serve it right back to you.

I think it’s funny. Don’t see the point in getting upset about it. Really, should this keep any of us from sleeping tonight? I really don’t think so.

The Tebow worship has gotten completely out of hand, and the Kool-Aid drinkers who refuse to look at the situation honestly have caused this to happen. The people who are more concerned about The Tebow than they are about The Team are responsible for this backlash.

Put the glass down. Sober up. Quit taking it so seriously. If we win, it doesn’t matter. if we lose, then maybe they’re right.

Get over it. It’ll just give you wrinkles and mess with your digestion.

The hilarious part of the east coast cities giving crap to Denver is the pure irony

I live in rural New England – about an hour from Boston, 45 minutes from Hartford and 3 hours from NYC. I can tell you with 100% certainty: Once you are outside of these cities, you are 30 years in the past! Everything around here – even inside cities like Boston – is nearly 3 decades behind Denver and rest of the western half of the United States. Architecture, banking, utilities, EVERYTHING.

I should remake that video – by the time the Broncos play the Patriots, someone in Denver needs to shoot some video of a fan in the city going to watch the game. I will record REAL PATRIOT FANS in this area doing the same, it will be considerably worse than the video shown above.

Guess what East Coast? From someone who now lives here – this area of the country SUCKS.

How do you spell television ratings? T-E-B-O-W. At least more Bronco games will likely be on national broadcast.

I really don't see a problem with the commercial

Have we gotten so sensitive as a society that a commercial like that offends us? I mean really. Instead of pissing and moaning about a commercial, why not focus more on the actual game.

by dpurvis on Nov 16, 2011 3:21 PM MST reply actions   1 recs

while not funny

Folks need to get over this persecution complex.

The reason we get no respect is because we were the 2nd to worst team in the league last year, and have been blown out by the only 2 good teams we’ve played this year.

I guaruntee Detroit got much worse in their 0-16 season (can you say matt millen WR jokes), and living in DC, the ’skins get much worse than this even today for having an owner that totally mismanaged the team personnel dept for years.

You don’t get respect unless you earn it. If we keep winning, the respect will come. But beating KC and MIA or OAK while looking somewhat ugly in the process isn’t gonna do it.

by cjfarls on Nov 16, 2011 3:27 PM MST via mobile reply actions

well by your logic

beating the Jets isn’t that great of an accomplishment either because they are on par with the likes of the Chiefs and Raiders

Yes and no

any single win isn’t worth much at all… simply beating the Jets wouldn’t be worth anything, but I’m guessing the 3 game win streak starts to earn us a little cred… not a lot (we’ve dug ourselves a large hole the past 5 years), but some.

Similarly HOW we beat the Jets will be important… if its seen to be a fluky win due to crazy turnovers/penalties, etc. it will earn us less respect than if we dominate them. We don’t get the benefit of the doubt that teams with a good track record get… NE, Pitt, Balt, GB, etc. don’t have that double-standard, but once again you have to earn that benefit of the doubt.

by cjfarls on Nov 17, 2011 7:39 AM MST up reply actions

I agree on the Miami and KC games

I consider the oakland win a good win, only if because it’s the raiders. I do think that oakland is a pretty decent team this season (not good, but decent). The wins against KC and Miami were wins against bad teams, even if the win against KC was IN KC. I was thinking about this this morning, and thinking how much better the win against the Bengals now looks.

Right now everyone thinks that the MSM is always out to get us. I do not doubt that there are those out there in the MSM that have been very critical of the Broncos. However, we have not been a good team for a few years.

by dpurvis on Nov 16, 2011 3:43 PM MST up reply actions

It would be one thing if they said, "Wow, Denver is a mediocre team". Which is true.

We have a mediocre record to prove that. We are beating the worst teams, so we cant BE the worst. Right? Nope, not according to MSM. They continually rag on us more than any team. I have yet to read a single iota of bad press about the Colts and their abortion of a season. They arent even IN games.

by Teboner on Nov 16, 2011 5:21 PM MST up reply actions

I don't agree we get ragged on more than any team

I think Philly and their “Dream Team” have gotten ragged on as much as we have. However, as Bronco fans we naturally go out of our way to look for Bronco news, and opinions that others have of our team. I have several Eagle fans who would rather have our “situation” than theirs.

As for the Colts not getting bad press, I’d have to disagree on that. Much has been made of the fact that the team is nothing without Peyton Manning. I’ve also heard enough of the Colts, Bill Polian, Peyton Manning, and the possibility of drafting Luck.

Coincidentally, the Broncos and the Eagles have polarizing figures at QB. That may have something to do with it.

by dpurvis on Nov 16, 2011 4:51 PM MST up reply actions

This is true. I redact the "more than any other team".

But I think it is fair to say “more than any other team with a halfway decent record and on a winning streak with a fairly good defense”. lol better?

They say the cool is all over me..

by Teboner on Nov 16, 2011 5:16 PM MST up reply actions

Now you're quantifying your arguement more and more

I’m not trying to pick an arguement. I’m simply stating that the perception that the MSM is ragging on the Broncos more than other teams is not true. I see the humor in the Power rankings listed above, and don’t find any issue with the video. As Bronco fans we are going to take any criticism of our team, fair or not, harder than we would another team.

Remember, fan is short for fanatic.

I don't see a problem.

The audio was clearly talking up the Jets @ Broncos game, but the video was about the fans meeting at a bar (one in NY, one in Denver) to watch the game. Denver is known in the east as a cow town, so they showed a rancher heading to town to watch the game after taking care of his cattle. Big deal! People need to be less sensitive.
