It's late in the week, but I feel I need to get something off of my chest. There is a stat in Sunday's game against the Chiefs that has been latched onto and has been beaten into the ground. Everyone here knows what that stat is and it is a shame that few if any can look past that and see why the Broncos actually left Arrowhead with a victory. Follow me after the jump and I will explain more
It's almost game time again, and I am gearing up for what I feel will be a tough game at home against a tough Jets team. I am distracted though. The hype surrounding 2/8 is getting to me. The smack talk on the boards and blogs is irking me more than usual. Jets fans are spewing the formula for stopping Tebow at the top of their lungs. The same old story, "8 or 9 in the box, lock up the outside with their talented corners and dare Denver to beat them with the pass". We have heard that diatribe for weeks now, but I digress. Thats not really why I am here.
My head is about to explode, because so many people are missing the point. People are being sucked into the 2/8 hype like a black hole. The point is: Tim Tebow's play in the Chiefs game was merely a secondary role. The true catalyst to this win was the defense, plain and simple. I know that is foreign territory for most of us. The majority of us fans are used to fast moving, high offensive output to bring home a win. That was the norm all the way back to the mid 90's. These aren't your Daddy's Broncos, they are quietly becoming a new breed. Our defense is operating behind a veil of hype provided by Tebow and that is probably a good thing. They are getting better every week and every week brings them more confidence. The best thing about it: Nobody is noticing!
In this day and age, you don't go 2/8 passing and win without a great game from your defense. You don't call runs on third and six or more if you are not confident in getting a stop if you have to punt. Last but not least, you don't move away from something that is effective and moves the ball up and down the field. Who cares if it hasn't been seen on this level in years? If something works, you don't fix it.
Now back to the Jets. Please, keep talking about Tebow and his poor stats, by all means. We can tell he is really a concern from all the static you're putting out. You'll want to keep that veil in place, you don't want to know what our defense is about to do to you. It's game time!
