Broncos @ Chargers: Observations, Playcalling breakdown, Stats

That makes it 4 in a row and 5/6 folks!!!  BTW how great is it that our victory not only puts us in prime position for the playoffs, but also pretty much puts the nail in the coffin for the S.D. Chokers?  For once WE can deliver the death blow!!!  Before we get to the offensive stats and breakdown, here are a few thoughts and a rant.

Play of the Game

People can argue which play they thought was the game-changer, but for me, it came in overtime on 3rd down.  Driving for the go ahead FG, Von Miller absolutely stuffed Ryan Matthews for a 4 yard loss.  This meant the difference between a 49 yd fg attempt and a 53 yd fg attempt.  Huge play, and it forced Novak into a career long attempt which he pushed right NO GOOD!!!  McGahee gets an honorable mention for his 20 yd run to set up our game winner, but without Von Miller’s play, we don’t get that chance.

VONDOOM IS DEADLY!!!  These two harassed Phyllis all day and combined for 3.0 sacks on the day.  Von Miller now has 10.5 sacks through 11 games and will easily surpass the rookie record, he might even have a shot at Doom’s team record of 17 if he stays consistent.

Tebow Time!  Well, officially in 9 starts, Tebow has led 4 4th quarter/OT comebacks.  Keep em close and he’ll find a way to help his team win.  His 22 rushes in the game are also the most of any QB since 1950.

Not counting the Detroit game (ugly all around), the Denver defense has allowed 15, 24, 10, 13, and 13 points in our 5 wins for a 15 ppg allowed over that span.  Our defense is making key stops, and is giving our offense enough opportunities to score more points which gets me to my rant.

QUIT RUNNING THE FREAKIN’ BALL ON THIRD DOWN!!!  The Broncos did it 7 times today, not all were short yardage, and we converted only 2 times.  The run-pass ratio is ridiculously out of whack here, at the end of the game, the Broncos had run 69 offensive plays, with 50 of them being runs.  Now some of those are scrambles and originally a pass call, but there has to be more of a balance.  I am absolutely sick and tired of the lame QB draws being called.  Also, there are other directions to run than smack dab in the middle of a defense.  Granted that our biggest running plays have come up the middle, but so have plays that gain 0-1 yards.  McCoy, you are no longer a genius, get your butt back to work and lets mix it up some----BTW how come there were no screen calls other than that quick out to the sidelines?

What can we say about the development of Tebow?

He made some really nice throws today, a few ugly ones, and another handful of drops by his WR’s.  All in all Tim played a good game and protected the ball.  Overall, we can expect Fox to rely on our defense to keep it close, and our offense to run the ball---any serious development and refinement of Tim Tebow will come in the offseason.  For now Fox and McCoy are content with him playing mistake free ball (11 total TD’s and 2 turnovers including only 1 INT in his 6 starts this year) and are not going to let Tebow sling it all over the field---for now it’s winning, I just hope our D doesn’t wear down!

Alright folks here are the stats….I’ve now included a running breakdown by quarter, you’ll find it after the grids.
