The silence is deafening, and other observations.... - Mile High Report
My favorite part of Bronco wins these days is the collective silence that comes after conventional wisdom is turned on it's head (again and again).  This silence usually lasts from the end of the game until Monday morning.  By Monday morning, one writer musters the courage to come forward and take a position in the battle.

Broncos vs Chargers: The No Bull Review - Mile High Report
Allright allright....I've seen enough already with the come-from-behind types of victories.  Seriously.  It is Monday and I still feel completely spent after yesterday's game.  Just spent.  It is in a good way though.  I had a smile on my face this morning when I realized I could say something that I haven't been able to say in what seems like years:  My Broncos have a winning record.

The Option: How to develop Tim Tebow? - Mile High Report

Big Plays #11: Denver @ San Diego - Mile High Report
A methodical offense that doesn't hurt itself too badly and pulls it out in overtime.  A quarterback that played better when the game wasn't on the line than he did in the clutch moments, but whose defense-reading skills proved to be the difference.  A running back whose unremarkable game came to life in overtime.

Joe Mays says the defense doesn't feel slighted that they aren't on the front page news...
"If feels good to go out there and play the way we do and to have people notice that, and the coaches definitely notice," Mays said. "Each week we are able to put something new into the game plan and we are able to get after the quarterback a little bit more."

And Mays said not to forget defensive coordinator Dennis Allen.

"Yeah, give him all the credit."

Legwold's article on scoring little and winning is interesting.

I find it kind of amusing that Elway’s first hire as head coach is much more Dan Reeves than Mike Shanahan. But it’s working out very well for us so far as it did then. When you have a QB that’s money in at the end of games the primary goal needs to be getting to the fourth quarter with the game in reach. Reeves played that way with Elway and Fox is (enthusiastically, I think) playing that way with Tebow.

by jaffe28 on Nov 29, 2011 9:47 AM MST reply actions

I think Reeves put the majority of the pieces together

I’m hoping Fox is doing the same thing. Von is definitely evidence of that.

Hopefully Fox can seal the deal and we don’t have to find Shanahan. (unless Dennis Allen is our next Shanny, I’d be ok with that)

I found an interesting article over at Black&Silver Pride...Don't worry, I gargled with gasoline after reading it...

One interest note of the post that can be found here is, the tRaiders go to Miami who have won 3 of the last 4 and only gave up 39 points in the process. The Dolphins defense is coming on strong after a 7 game losing streak. Here’s the deal, the Denver Broncos can be in first place if the tRaiders lose and we win in Minnesota. The Broncos own the tie-breakers…So there is much for Broncos Country to happy for and let’s hope the win streak continues on…

I would give us better than 50/50 to take the AFC west

They have the tougher schedule and I think so long as we finish 10-6 we are playoff bound.

What would Blackie Lawless do?

by British Bronco on Nov 29, 2011 10:03 AM MST reply actions

The way the broncos have been playing I would say 60-40 in favor the Broncos...

The tRaiders are going to Miami who are playing way better than they did when we played them, plus they have some key players out. They still have the Lions at home and the Packers on the road. Not counting the Chiefs and Chargers. Our schedule is slightly easier than theirs at this point. We go to Minnesota this week, a team that has struggled all season with a 2-9 and key injuries plaus they have no quarterback and are looking for a long snapper…First place can be a reality this Sunday, then they shouldn’t look back…

2 game suspension for Suh-zee?

This guy had a sit down with the Commish wanting to be a better player? Really? Then he bounces a players head off the turf several times and get’s up in th face of the ref and stomps the down player? 2 games enough for this thug? I guess I’m good with this as long as the next offense brings a 1/2 season suspension…

Good find. Don't show this to the mouth breathing haters

“Here’s how Tebow stacks up against each opposing quarterback this year in traditional passer rating and in Real Quarterback Rating.

Week 7 — Denver 18, Miami 15
Matt Moore: 92.6 passer rating; 69.6 Real QB Rating
Tim Tebow: 91.7 passer rating; 80.5 Real QB Rating
Real QB Rating advantage: Tebow (+10.9)

Week 8 — Detroit 45, Denver 10
Matt Stafford-Shaun Hill: 126.0 passer rating; 118.2 Real QB Rating
Tim Tebow: 56.8 passer rating; 48.2 Real QB Rating
Real QB Rating advantage: Stafford (+70.0)

Week 9 — Denver 38, Oakland 24
Carson Palmer: 79.7 passer rating; 69.4 Real QB Rating
Tim Tebow: 98.1 passer rating; 108.2 Real QB Rating
Real QB Rating advantage: Tebow (+38.8)

Week 10 — Denver 17, Kansas City 10
Matt Cassel-Tyler Palko: 73.2 passer rating; 67.9 Real QB Rating
Tim Tebow: 102.6 passer rating; 122.7 Real QB Rating
Real QB Rating advantage: Tebow (+54.8)

Week 11 — Denver 17, N.Y. Jets 13
Mark Sanchez: 67.9 passer rating; 62.2 Real QB Rating
Tim Tebow: 61.3 passer rating; 87.1 Real QB Rating
Real QB Rating advantage: Tebow (+24.9)

Week 12 — Denver 16, San Diego 13
Philip Rivers: 77.1 passer rating, 68.8 Real QB Rating
Tim Tebow: 95.4 pass rating, 94.4 Real QB Rating
Real QB Rating advantage: Tebow (+25.6)

In other words, Tebow is no statistical circus freak winning in spite of himself. Tebow’s Broncos are winning because he consistently outperforms the opposing quarterback when you take into account all aspects of production: passing, running, sacks, total touchdowns, interceptions and fumbles. In fact, he consistently outperforms them by a wide margin.
Denver is 5-0 when Tebow produces a higher Real QB Rating than the opposing quarterback and 0-1 when the other team has the advantage. And those results are no coincidence.
After all, it turns out that no stat in football outside final score — indeed, maybe no stat in North American sports, period — is more important than Real QB Rating this season when it comes time to separate winners and losers.

At Cold, Hard Football Facts.com Insider, for example, we track the Correlation to Victory of Real Quarterback Rating, all of our “Quality Stats” and many other indicators: we tell you often teams win games when they win each statistical battle. Real QB Rating is easily the most important indicator in football.

Here’s the Correlation to Victory of several notable indicators through Week 12 of the 2011 season.
Real QB Rating — 156-20 (.886)
Passer rating — 135-41 (.767)
Real Passing YPA (which includes sacks) — 124-52 (.705)
Passing YPA — 121-55 (.688)
Rush yards — 119-56 (.680)
Rush YPA — 89-87 (.506)
Passing yards — 80-96 (.455)

The numbers are extraordinarily telling: gaudy passing days do not help you win football games and a more prolific day pounding out yards on the ground is only slightly more important. Instead, more effective all-around play at quarterback wins football games — regardless of how many yards a quarterback produces through the air. And right now, Tebow gives Denver more effective all-around play at quarterback almost every week.
Can Tebow do it over the long haul? Can he consistently pad his stats and performances by running the football like a college quarterback?

Probably not. Sooner or later he’ll have to pass the ball better, like Elway said. But that doesn’t change the fact that, right now, Denver’s 5-1 record is easy to explain: Tebow is consistently better and more productive than the other team’s quarterback."

what kills me

is that every analysis seems to be anchored and grounded on the assumption of zero improvement. (i.e. “can they keep winning this way???”) pretty risky to assume that a hard working, driven athletic leader like tebow will remain at the exact same skill and comfort level the rest of his career. the boy’s going to start finding his passing groove slowly but surely (no, haters, he probably won’t achieve dan marino levels of passing) and then.. wow. just sayin.

I watched the game again last night… The Von Miller sack in the 4th quarter was re-damn-diculous. Fastest spin move I’ve ever seen. The RT was in shock after the play. Then Dawkins socks Rivers in the gut on the very next play. They punt and we end up tying the game on the next drive. That sack reminded me of the preseason sack of Fitspatrick where Von just ran right past the LT like he was a pylon.

Von also hit Rivers had on other pass we were pretty close to intercepting. He made several huge plays in the game. Von is amazing.

Have the Broncos ever held Rivers to that low of a score

Sundays game was awesome. If we go on to win none of the remaining games, I will consider the season a success based on the fact that we finally beat the chargers in a low scoring defensive struggle, instead of an offensive shootout

If we can just force teams into passing situations on a more regular basis, this defense will be very formidable. I just hope for every 3rd down to be a passing situation so we can pass rush. Just need to have good man coverage on the slot and the hot routes.

The national media is hilarious...

They’re acting like, starting this week, they are the first to celebrate Denver’s defense. I know that here at Mile High Report, we’ve been celebrating the defensive potential since Day 1 and the defensive performance since every game that didn’t involve Green Bay or Detroit.

by Tezcatlipoca on Nov 29, 2011 10:50 AM MST reply actions

The defense is definitely the reason why we are 6-5...

That is a no-brainer in this time of low scoring on our offenses part…It also helps to get everybody healthy…

Maybe

the MSM way of looking at our wins is why some here have a knee jerk response to anything with Tebow’s name and a positive about our wins…ie, they think we are all saying that it is all Tebow, and not recognizing the D. Just to be clear, by far most of us are NOT! I still expect the strawman use of that argument, though.

Mcgeorge how is Von not in consideration for DPOY. If he amasses 90 tackles, 15 sacks, 10 TFL, and maybe cause one or two more turnovers he has to be a top 3 candidate. Von needs to be in that consideration if he plays these next 5 like the last few.
