Some thoughts about next year already!

Ok, so stewing about how pathetic our team has played (other than 5 min) in the last 2 games, I have had some thought into next year's team.  Looking through the standings in the NFL does not help me think "wow we are only 2 games out of this year" but rather speculating on what could happen in the off season.

One of the first things I have thought about is not who will be the QB but who will be calling the plays in the future.  Now bare with he here.  If Houston fails to make the playoffs, Kubiak is gone so the speculation goes.  I have thought that his relationship with Elway would bode well for him returning as our OC.  Then he would be in line for the Head job down the road when we turn this ship around.  I think this would be a GREAT move and I know it is total speculation.  Kubiak's offense would fit Tebow or Quinn if they decide to sign him as a backup after the year.  Also the 2-3 QB drafted would definitely benefit from a Kubiak playbook.

My speculation on the draft is that we need to look at history.  EFX took serious looks at the QB's in the draft and will do so again.  I expect them to draft on in the first 3 rounds with the caveat that we dont have a potential great player in either Tebow or Adam Weber (yes I said Weber). I have watched some film on him at Min. and wow the kid could play and was not on a great team.  If they pick in the top 5-7 again, they will pick the best player regardless of position.  If so I look for it  to be a CB/QB/OL/MLB in that order.  But I really feel they will take the best player regardless of need as it is very apparent we are more than one more year away from being a good team. (wow would I would do right now to be an average 8-8 team)

I also do not expect the Broncos to be very active in the FA market.  They will take the 2nd tier guys and hope for success like we have had with Bunkley (was he a FA or did we trade?) and our favorite McGehee. I think we will take a flyer on a veteran QB to be the backup if Tebow stands out for the last part of the year or starter if we draft a new QB but it very well could be Quinn would be resigned as the backup

Lastly we need to take care of our younger players who are going to be FA after next year.  We need to sign Clady, Ayers, Coilquitt, Prater, and Larsen but we can not break the bank with other than Clady.

We are still so thin on true talent with this team that it is going to take a while to be competitive in each game as we are finding out now.
