Ok, so stewing about how pathetic our team has played (other than 5 min) in the last 2 games, I have had some thought into next year's team. Tebow Lore - Mile High Report
We have all undoubtedly heard one piece of the subjective Tebow media craze that has overtaken not just the Denver Broncos, but the NFL as well. His ability or inability to play the quarterback position has been spun so many ways that his only option is to second guess his "throwability"....or"passability"; I second guess my own work on a single suggestion or correction, what is not to suggest that Tebow (a normal human being) does the same.

I am with Simms that hype may kill Luck's career
But I do think he’s the best QB prospect in some time, though Elway and Manning might be exaggerations. I do think Luck should be drafted #1 overall, I think he’s going to be a great NFL QB, I also think he’s going to struggle as a rookie and because of the overkill of hype, it’s going to make things tough, just ask Tebow what hype can do.
I am a bear of very little brains and big words bother me.

Cam Netwon had hype and he is doing fine. Tons of INTs and no one notices.
Luck is the best college QB I’ve ever watched. Barkley and Landry Jones look good to me as well.
X > Tim Tebow
Walterfootball has Luck going #1 (Indy), Barkley going #2 (Miami) and Landry Jones going #5 (Seattle). He has Robert Griffin going #6 to Washington. He has the Cards and Rams taking OT/WR at 3 and 4. He has Denver taking Richardson at #9 overall.
We are going to have to be really bad (3-13 bad) if we want a top QB in 2012 draft. Miami, Seattle and Washington WILL take QBs in round 1. If they are worse than us, we won’t have a QB to draft in round one or we’ll be really reaching like Minnesota did last draft.

I disagree
I personally thought Cam was a wasted pick. I understood why Carolina made the pick, but they def tried to shop that thing and ended up with hands tied.
On the flipside I think Cam is going to be great. I happily ate a crow sandwich on the way to a 7-1 ff record on Newtons back.
Cam is an exception, not the rule, I could just as easily say wait til the 6th and draft a Brady.

- overall pick QBs.
Payton Manning – good
Carson Palmer – good
Eli Manning – good
Mich Vick – good
Bradford – good
Stafford – good
Newton – good
David Carr – bad
Tim Couch – bad
JBust Russell – bad
Alex Smith – bad
I disagree. the #1 overall QBs that suck are the exception (fairly frequent I will admit). There are clearly different levels of good, but the busts are fewer than the hits.
Andrew Luck will land in the good column. Take that to the bank.
X > Tim Tebow
no doubt.
What about Barkley? Jones?
Won’t be in position for Luck right? Keep in mind that Harrington, Leinart, Leaf, Clausen, Quinn all went high and now where are they.
I’m saying selecting an “elite” QB is rare. Team success was more to do with defense.

Clausen was round 2.
I was just saying 1st round 1st pick QBs, the #1 overall player, happens to have a pretty good success ratio.
I’m sure between Landry Jones, Barkley, Robert Griffith and Luck, one or two will bust.
X > Tim Tebow
going on record now
That Landry Jones will bust and Robert Griffth will slide out of the top half of the first round based on knee issues and lack of arm strength/ ability to make all of the throws at the combine.
Management needs to earn my faith, the past has taught me too much.
i didn't say that they were 1st rounders.

because you have to play blackjack
getting a top-level QB increases your chances of contending so much that it is worth the massive risk.
i keep dancing on my own.
blackjack isn't about risk!
Its hardly even gambling, its about numbers, and if we can get more good picks for 1 great pick that MIGHT pan out in 3 years.
Thanks but no thanks, ill keep betting the minimum at the Sahara $1 tables and guzzle down the free beer.
Risks don’t pan in the NFL, smart football decisions do. Trading Griffin, Barkley, Jones for a whole slew of picks makes me giddy

I don’t think you take one of those guys if you don’t think they can do it. But even at a 1/3 chance…
It is possible to find starting QBs in the later rounds, like Schaub, Brees and Romo. But the vast majority are first rounders, and most of those are top 15 picks. So at some point a team probably has to spend a high pick on a starting QB.
i keep dancing on my own.
ya, eventually we will
But right now we have so many holes, a new QB won’t fix the problems.
there is a Barkley in every draft class. Luck not so much bit I doubt Miami and Indy will mess this up, they are halfway through and going strong (weak?). they will try their damndest to lose them all

by Trapped in O.C. on Nov 3, 2011 2:44 PM MDT via mobile up reply actions
That is true, and because of that I wonder how much the ransom would be for trading down out of a chance to draft Barkley/Jones.
i keep dancing on my own.
Enough to make it worthwhile
Hopefully…. If not then we take him and go with it, but if the market is there, we should strongly consider trading out of that spot.
I have a feeling that with the current QB craze quality defensive personnel will fall through the cracks. and be ripe for the picking with a couple of high second rounders.

Am i the only person here
That thinks the Broncos should forgo offense this year and build a defense even Tebow can win with?
After all, isn’t Fox a d guy, and Allen can coach a defense at a ’ship level. I think we are closer on d than o, and defense is the key to home field advantage (literally half the battle.)
Then we could pick up a Colt McCoy or some on the cheap and win…

Chances of a championship are slim if you dont have that elite QB
Here is a list of all the SB winning QB’s in my lifetime.
Elway, Montana, P Manning, Brady, Aikman, Bradshaw, Young, Favre, Brees, Rogers, Warner, Roethlisberger, Staubach, Plunkett, E Manning, Simms, Williams, Theisman, Griese, Stabler, Rypien, Hostetler, McMahon, Dilfer, Brad Johnson.
Of that list only a handful were not elite pocket passers and of those few the last time it happened was with Brad Johnson with the Bucks (2003) and Dilfer with the Ravens(2000) before that. It could be argued that Eli Manning isnt elite, but if he isnt then he is borderline.
Point being, It is much harder to win a championship with a great defense and second tier QB than it is if you have that elite QB. Elway wants that elite QB and he will be looking to get him in this draft.
by AttwaterForHOF on Nov 3, 2011 10:14 AM MDT up reply actions
the price is to high.
In this business its far to risky to gamble by trading up. We won’t be in position with our own pick, and I think its been proven that even the most highly touted picks but out more often than not.
Besides, its such an offense driven league that any QB can throw for 3000 yards. Its more about ball security and a good running game.
Sure, Manning/Brady/Rodgers are the focal point of that offense, but even if you do hit a homerun with a QB pick he still has to stay healthy (Manning/Brady), not go insane (Leaf), work incredibly hard (Russell), and have the right system supporting cast (Montana/Young)
In any sport defense is the key. Defense and execution (see SA Spurs). I refuse to believe that this franchises hopes rest on a single kid. We have valuable experience on the field right now on defense, and we need to utilize that before it retires. We need to draft defense, and improve our running game and we are out of the cellar next year guaranteed.
One fish, two fish, red fish, DOOM fish.

We dont have to trade up.
There are several QB’s besides Luck that can fit the bill. We wont need to trade up to get a top QB. Unless Elway has his hart set on Luck and if it is there wont be any stopping him.
by AttwaterForHOF on Nov 3, 2011 1:03 PM MDT up reply actions
Another note is how long to develop?
Does it take a longer time for a QB to get elite than it does for defense to play well? I’d say many D players, in fact most position players have a less steep learning curve than QB. Thus, it’d take 2-5 years for the QB to learn all he needs to learn and for him to slow the game down. On the other hand, even though Von Miller has lots to learn and is far from perfect, he can still impact the game, whether as an every down starter or as a specialist that learns on the go.
Remember that you need a full team to gel to win a championship. So you don’t want stars at 22 and others at 32. Ideally you have most of your best players hitting their best years at the same time. Growth charts, and all that.
Jets, Chiefs, Steelers
All have/had mediocre QBs.
Roethlisberger is elite now, but his first few years was D and run game. The Jets win despite Sanchez and the Chiefs might have run away with the West if not for Charles/Berry injuries.
Even if we got luck it would take years to surround him with a quality cast, and if we spend as much as it looks like we will have to to get him we can kiss the next few seasons goodbye. The secondary is pushing 40 we have some major questions at DT, RB, WR, and ILB…
The cost is too great.
Everyday I see a new name in the “elite QB” list. Manning, Brady, Rivers, Brees, Roethlisberger…
Truth is none of those guys win without outstanding defense. Make Brady exhibit a.

Cost would be nothing if it isn't Luck
But some other franchise QB we draft in the 1st or even 6th round. And Roeth was big, strong, could make throws, didn’t have to ‘win’ for the Steelers, but could/did make some plays for them. He was a game manager.
Now, note he was a game manager for an AWESOME defense with an amazing oline and great RB’s. Also note he was decent and got better; he wasn’t close to his ceiling. Now, if we had all that… absolutely. But is it easier to build a Championship D with multiple Hall of Famers, or to get an elite QB? Given all our holes, are we really able to give up 3-5 drafts to build that D instead of selecting a QB in the first 2 rounds sometime in the next 2-3 years? To me, I want the D, but I also know we require a real QB, whomever that may be.
Is this not the same argument Orton fans made?
If Tebow is never going to be an elite QB then I don’t care how good of a person he is. You can’t win multiple Super Bowls without an elite QB. Not in today’s NFL…

I feel like spending a 1st on a RB is a risk considering how much abuse they take and how their careers are typically shorter anyway. Spend it on a guy who is going to play at least 8-10 years.

Yes. Barkley is looking really good right now. He has shown a lot of improvement since his freshman season to now. Jones is good too.
I’m not sure we’ll be bad enough to get any of them.
Indy @ #2… Good question. I think they take QB if Manning isn’t looking healthy. If Payton comes back this season, they draft a RT or LT.

It doesn’t matter how good your team is, turnovers kill.
I can’t speak for most, but personally I think the switch was the right decision. We needed/need to know where Tebow is. Regardless of how this season goes, we should’t take a QB. We should trade down for a kings ransom, and destroy the second found of the draft. We could sign good players to long deals on the cheap, and if needed go grab a hasselbeck or McCoy. Someone who won’t turn it over, and make the right audible when needed.

The damnable nature of that comment is that you were ever in Orton's boat to beging with

no liar you live in your own reality. You claimed Orton would sign for 2 million to be a backup in jacksonville nevermind Simms got 3 million after having played in years
and I said it doesnt matter what he does because even if he did sign for big money it wouldnt change what you thought of him . You would just say the team that signed him was wrong which makes your claims and comments worthless as always
I think I said $2.5MM on a one year deal. Maybe he gets $2.5MM per year on a two year deal. Doesn’t matter the team. Just a team where Orton is clearly the backup.
McJedi was stupid to give Orton $6MM more than his actual worth. That was wrong. McJedi was stupid to pay Simms $3MM. Perhaps Orton finds someone as stupid as McDaniels a second time. You never know. Maybe kyle lucks into 2 needles in the haystack.

I just finished tracking
1st and 2nd down situational ‘adequacy’ (merely a yay-nay grade about getting it done from a situational context) through the first seven games, and it is startling how good our offense was overall on 1st and 2nd down. They had some ups and downs but averaged 68% (77% under Orton)…in my experience anything above 64% is very good. But the turnovers were unbelievably devastating.
And in case anyone was interested, our defense on 1st and 2nd down had a 26% situational adequacy grade. That is unbelievably bad, and while I don’t track the rest of the league, I have no doubt it would be dead last.
Perseverance, secret of all triumph.

hasselbeck or McCoy
Yuck. That will just continue our non stop QB problems. Hasselbeck is old and McCoy looks like he could very well be a bust.
by AttwaterForHOF on Nov 3, 2011 1:11 PM MDT up reply actions
hasselbeck is playing better right now than any QB we have on our roster
He was stolen by Tennessee for pennies and is playing well right now. I only saying we can find a decent QB to fill a hole while we rebuild orange crush.

No Hasselback is not hes just not playing for a team in which a large portion of the fanbase has behaved like pricks
Although I do agree with you that turnovers are killers but outside of those Orton wasnt playing any worse than the majority of the other Qbs in the league but Foxs systems simply cant handle the turnovers + the delusional fanbase
he is not playing the same as Orton was!
Hasselbeck is one of the only things scoring points in Tennessee. It sure as hell isn’t CJ200. And Britt went down long ago… how else are they scoring? Do you even watch football?

Hasselbeck worked Orton over in the Tennessee game. Hasselbeck made all the plays necessary in his 4th quarter TD drive. Orton threw a boneheaded INT in his chance (or maybe it’s not his fault he threw a low pass where there was no passing lane).
But Hoop doesn’t think turnovers matter all that much. An INT isn’t all that much different than an incomplete pass is it? Tomato Tomaato.

This is what I mean by delusional WTF are you talking about now ?
Hasselback has 11 td passes
Orton has 8 and he has not played in nearly 3 weeks
The Titans averaged 19.9 ppg
We average 19 ppg
Hassellback played well against us but he has not played that well overall at least not well enough that his play is something to shoot for .
Of course you would follow douchebags like Mcgeorge who tried to twist my words even though I agreed with you that the turnovers were not good .
ya, nevermind that our running game is better than it has been in years
And theirs is crumbling as we speak. Ill take washed up Hasselbeck over Orton any day of the week and twice on Sundays.

his record says he is playing well enough to win some ball games.
Which was my whole point. Build a strong Defense through the draft and fill it with a vet QB. while we wait to find our big gun.
Do you read the comments at all or do you only come here to push your simpleminded ideas and spread hate?

You mean his teams record ?
I read the comments and I responded exactly to what you said. Around here people are having a harder and harder time standing behind what they say instead of choosing to fl;ip flop and deflect .
If our defense gave up 20 ppg overall or better yet 12 ppg in victories we would be 4-3 or better as well
look
I could give a rank who they keep, cut, sign, trade for.
We need a defensive foundation in order to compete for a super bowl.
We won’t be in position to draft Luck. God willing, we won’t do something stupid to try and trade for Luck. Luck is out of the picture.
We should draft for the defense, and if possible trade down to acquire more picks to draft Defense.
Once we have built a good defensive foundation, we can be competitive with any QB that is accurate, and doesn’t turn the ball over (hasselbeck/McCoy).
If you read any of the posts here you will see I have been preaching it all day. Don’t accuse me of flip-floping. Because I have clearly been just as stubborn as you on this issue.

Dude, Orton is garbage.
Now feel good in knowing that Tebow might be garbage too.
I’ll wait to see him play for 9 more games. Orton got like 30 games as a Bronco to determine is sucks ass, Tebow should get at least half that.
By 2012, this franchise will absolutely move on from Orton and likely move on from Tebow as well.
Orton hasnt proven to be very durable either

Those turnovers were terrible and they got your boy benched. They killed his chance at a long term deal or starter money.
“not good” doesn’t quite capture Orton’s meltdown in 2011. But he’ll look good holding a clip board next season on a much better team. Backup QB is a great job if you can get it. No pressure, decent money, no limelight.
X > Tim Tebow
Gee Sims, does that mean you think Luck isn't as good as you were coming out of college?
I don’t get the hype either frankly, but Andrew Luck has prven to his detractors that he has the stuff and is as NFL ready as any of them coming out next year…I think whoever gets him will be pleased withy the catch…
If we stay tebow
Id love to trade back once or twice in the first. Pick up Gilmore from SC or a top DT like the kid from Washington or Clemson.
This team needs help everywhere, trading down and stock piling picks is the way to go

I agree. Trade down and stockpile.
Better chance on hitting one of those mid round picks and drafting a J Finley (TE) or Brandon Flowers.
X > Tim Tebow
I say stay put and trade players for picks.
I love the talent available near the front end of the draft. Think of all the talent we bypassed trading back every year. Let’s not go all McD on this next draft too!!
I'd love for our 1st round pick next year to be Kahil from USC
Give Tebow a proper RT to cover his ass and move Franklin to LG and send Beadles to the bench…
But Elway is going to bet the farm for Andrew Luck, so I’ve just accepted that

I won't hate getting Luck. lol
It will just mean the franchise will remain 2-3 years away from competing.

You used to assert confidently that McDaniels drafted superbly – much to my chagrin. Could it be you’ve come around to my point of view on the matter at last Tim?

POINTLESS! (no offense)
Elway will get all Herschel Walker to get his BFF (Andrew Luck). Think of it this way, it’ll make for a very brief NFL draft thread when EFX give up all the picks this year, 1st and 2nd round pick next year AND Eric Decker…
MOZGOD Member #35
And Von Miller. Don’t try to avoid it Chuck. just accept it. If Luck is a Bronco in 2012, Von Miller won’t be.
Not our choice. Will be Indys.

Give up Champ, Dumervile, even Clady, not the best 1st round draft pick in 20 years for the Broncos!
MOZGOD Member #35
Gotta pay to play Chuk. Those other guys have long term deals or about to have them. Indy will say… No thanks.
Von Miller is bye-bye if Luck is a Bronco (assuming we don’t have the #1 overall pick with a 2-14 record).
Von getting dealt as part of the Luck package is a guarantee! As certain as death and taxes.
X > Tim Tebow
I would hate Elway for this. That would set this team back for a decade, like Lions and Raiders level of futility. If we end up #1 take him by all means, but if Barkely or Jones or whoever is sitting there for us at #3/4, then lets take him and plug up some of the other leaking holes on this Broncos ship at DT, CB, MLB, WR, RB,…geex we have a lot of needs

Von is not getting delt even if we trade up we would have to give up two 1st and 2nd’s maybe Doom and/or Dawkins or a combination of those two with D.J. Williams I will guranteee if we have Luck we have Von Miller I’ll bet my right arm

Why not just throw in Goodman and Marcus Thomas.
Dude, it’s not our choice and adding Dawkins and DJ makes that trade no better for Indy. Those two have no trade value. I’m thinking you don’t understand trade value. Doom doesn’t have much either with his huge contract and 0.0 sacks to show for it. We’d be lucky to trade him for a 3rd rounder right now. We’d be lucky to get a 6th for either Dawkins or DJ.
Any team would require Von Miller be included if Denver traded up for Luck.
If Denver wants Luck, they won’t have Von moving forward. Simple as that. Your right arm will be missed.
X > Tim Tebow
Jussss Sayinnnnn
Von isnt getting traded for Luck plain and simple. and DJ has been performing and a consistant level just aging, just saying if we trade up I doubt we give up any players at all we will give up a crap load of picks I am garunteeing my right arm if Luck is a bronco so is miller, and if the broncos do trade up its for barkley or jones the FO doesnt like Tebow at all

Fox and Elway clearly do not like Tebow, Elway even said he didnt, I think if one of them is there take him but I dont wanna move up and idk about trent richardson I cant see why we would take him with a top 5 or 10 pick

it’s not our call. you guys have a hard time with this. If we trade up for Luck there will be a team on the other end of that deal and that other team will have all the leverage. They’ll want some sure things so they’ll require Von Miller and probably Decker. And of course a boat load of draft picks.
Sounds tasty.

Luck
If we keep playing like we are we might get a chance at luck, if the winless start winning

they won’t trade von in any luck deal, just a lot of picks and maybe a tebow throw in.
Am I the only one thinking the elway’s first few years in the FO wol be like his first few years playing in the nfl? Don’t worry, in 4 years, he will be really good at it.
by TheMascotArmy on Nov 3, 2011 5:42 PM MDT via mobile reply actions
why would another team do that deal? Just draft picks? draft picks are risky. Von Miller is not. He is a sure thing. It’s not Denver’s choice. We are begging for Luck. The other team won’t just want a few picks. They’ll require Von Miller.
Get over it. Von is outta here if we trade up for Luck. You gotta pay to play in that game. Sorry.
X > Tim Tebow
Von isnt going any no matter what
and when new orleans traded up to the number one spot for ricky williams is a great example or how atlanta traded up for julio jones last year they all gave up tons and tons of picks

So you’d rather trade our next 3 1st round picks and our next 3 second round picks and our next three 3rd round picks?
That’s the kid of trade it would look like.
Denver would be out of the NFL draft until 2015
