Broncos vs Raiders Studs and Duds - Mile High Report
What. A. Game. On Sunday afternoon, the Denver Broncos marched into the black hole and beat the Raiders by a score of 38-24. It was a full team effort and was arguably the best win the Broncos have experienced in the past two years. CAN WE BE DONE WITH THE CONVERSATION NOW? - Mile High Report
I’ve said it from the beginning---it’s too early to proclaim him hero or bust yet. But anytime an offense gouges a stout D like the Raiders to the tune of 300 yards, that is something special to hold on to and he helps create a different dynamic in the running game. Remember, it’s never as good OR bad as it seems.
Some New Questions About Tebow - Mile High Report
I don't know about you, but I have found this week very tiring. I am seeing a lot of exaggeration. I'm seeing a lot of old arguments cropping up. And I'm seeing a fair amount of bad behavior.

GOOD GAME BRONCOS!!

"THE TIME TO WIN IS NOW" - Coach Hue Jackson
Raider Nation, all hand's on deck or get the hell off the ship! That's the way it's gonna be around here from now on! If a 7th & 5th round pick gets you Aaron Curry (a former 4th overall 1st rd. pick) instead of a couple of crap-shoots a year later, then fine and if dealing away a couple of first rounder's gets you a proven franchise quarterback like Carson Palmer and a legitimate shot at the playoffs, then great, you know why? Because your team is standing behind it's motto & legacy, "Just Win Baby!" and "Commitment to Excellence" instead of "Suck for Luck" and "Give Up". Imagine if you were a fan of a team that actually bought into that!?!
Cheers,
- Saint

Win the next three and lead the division. Who would have thunk it.
Week 10, Broncos beat KC and SD beats Oakland.
Week 11, SD looses to Chicago, KC looses to NE, and the raiders beat the Vikings.
Week 12, KC looses to the Steelers and the raiders loose to Chicago.
Week 12 standings
Broncos 6 5
SD 5 6
raiders 5 6
KC 4 7

The “Read” option offense will only carry us so far as good defenses like the Jets and Bears who might exploit it…The spy LBer.
Hey thank you
Its all nice and dandy to say we are 1 game out, but really? A week after we got ahnilated by 50 points to the Lions and 2 weeks after it took a miracle onside kick to win and then we beat the Raiders on a read option offense. Lets get real people. A punt return TD, a blown coverage on Eddie Royals touchdown, and 2 big TD runs by McGahee. Let me say that again 2 big TD runs by a Broncos running back, something we haven’t seen in years. Not to mention 130 yards of penalties by the Raiders and carson palmer trying to sneak a fast one by champ. Truth is Tebow was still under 50% completion rate, can’t read a blitz, and can’t make a split second decision when in the pocket. Teams will start to literally rush 8 or 9 people.
After that it was a great win, but we can cut the playoff and division talk crap. San Diego went toe to toe with the best team in the league yesterday even when Rivers throws 2 pick sixes off the bat.

Love the excuse machine you got running today. No mention of Tebow’s 2 TD passes, 98 QB rating, no turnovers, 1 sack and 118 yards of rushing with an average above 8 ypc.
Yep… none of that had anything to do with the win. You guys live in the same fantasy world to the Tebow fanboys.
San Diego sure did look bad ass losing a 3rd game in a row going to 4-4 overall. Nice of you to point that out. Maybe you should root for them?
Tim Tebow's career record is 3-3. He is the worst 1st round pick EVER!!!! He is embarrassing!!! Did I say that with enough conviction to get a job with ESPN?
Come on McGeorge
off of the Broncos high horse for a second and have an agrument without attacking me.
1 TD pass was a broken coverage, similar to that of Titus Youngs TD against us last week, wideopen. Great of Tebow to be able to find him, but he was wide open is all I am saying.
Yes he ran the ball very well. 3 very big runs.
SanDiego went toe to toe with Green Bay who we lost to by like 38 points or something while giving them 2 pick sixes is pretty impressive to me but maybe not to you. You just look at the W vs the L and thats fine. Doesn’t mean you had to tell me to go root for them? I’m just as die hard fan as you are and have been since birth. You can be a die hard fan and be objective, might offend some people like you but im gonna speak my mind cuz its a blog.

Those three big runs were against broken defenses. You know why the D was broken? Because they were having a hell of a hard time figuring out how to defend Tebow and the zone option read. And it got worse as the game progressed. They didn’t adjust, we just kept giving them different looks and it had them all twisted.
It was glorious. That last drive was amazing. We get the ball back on our own 20 and you and I are just hoping for a first down to run some clock and kill their last two TOs. Nope, Tebow runs for 30, Tebow for 8, McGahee for 5, McGahee for the TD. Game over. That is exactly where Orton had failed us so many times in the past.
I don’t discount Tebow for hitting Royal on the TD. Coverages break down all the time. Multiple times in every single NFL game. I just count points and we had 38 (should have been 41). That is a formula for winning most NFL games. Tebow played a huge role in that success. He had a great game.

Tebow still has a long way to go. He still misses some wide open guys (but is improving). He doesn’t make throws in tight windows and he doesn’t make timing based throws.
But don’t excuse all the good things from the game yesterday. OAK didn’t give the game away—we took it. Tebow didn’t carry the team by any means—but the team played like a team (and Tebow was certainly part of the equation) and collectively took the fight to the Raiders and won.

if they rush 8-9 guys,
Mchahee pops through a few more times for 60. Can’t do that regularly; bad D regardless of the QB.

First play of the second half changed the tone of that game!
After being ridiculously predictable and running on every first down, we started the second half with an out-route which made OAK think twice about 6+ player blitzes.
Very innocuous play, but very important!

the buzz is that teams will start shutting down tebow’s running and we’ll be screwed. i’m not convinced. i think tebow’s passing ability will start progressively stepping up to the point where, like yesterday, he’ll be able to pass just enough to keep the defense off the mark a bit.
also, can i just say, tebow might not be the best QB ever but it’s sure freaking entertainment when he walks on the field.

I agree
It seems like Tebow is starting to make some better decisions.
Avalance 2011-12 season, Mission 45 Wins.
Get well soon Juan.
Also, if defenses start stacking 8 in the box...
I would hope that Fox would account for that and start putting a TE in the flat (or in short curl patterns) for Tebow to use as an out pass.
This.
FInally, we need to cut Knowshawn, or bench him for the rest of the year. An RBC of McGahee and Ball would make me happy.
Avalance 2011-12 season, Mission 45 Wins.
Get well soon Juan.
The trade off for that
is no help for Franklin in pass protection.
However, it is an option to consider when making adjustments and I think having options to adjust to, will determine how successful our team is in the upcoming games. It was a good game plan this week. The differences were, the Lions game- planned to take away the run and make Tebow beat them with the pass. The raiders just wanted to beat up Tebow and that undisciplined play helped the Broncos defeat them.

There's always the problem of taking a TE out of pass protection...
But some TEs are pretty good about doing a chip block and then getting into the flat.
The Raiders
weren’t the only team with penalties helping the other team to win. They didn’t have a botched punt either. The Raiders wanted to do just what the Lions did, unfortunately for them, McCoy was a little more clever this game, which opened things up. It is unfair to knock this win as the Raiders screwing up.

I hate how the tRaiders making excuses to this game, stating that we never shoould have scored that much on them...
From the second half on, we out played them pure and simple. Our adjustment at half time was to much for them handle, the succumbed to the run…Poor tRaiders, I hate them more than I hate the Steelers or Cowboys…
the advantage
is that if what we did is truly effective, and if other teams continue to believe it isn’t, they’ll just keep looking past it.

So...
Does anyone know what round Kellen Moore is expected to go in. Is it possible that the Broncos could snag him in the 3rd round?
I think he will go from the 4th-7th...
The only knock on him is his height (6’0) as he would have trouble throwing over taller DTs/DEs in the NFL. The guy in my book is tops, but I don’t think teams will be willing to take much of a chance on him…
I think he'd be worth a flyer, over a massive risk-reward prospect like Landry Jones.
If Tebow proves that he is capable of keeping the team in games, even with his flaws, I’d rather use the high draft picks on building up the team’s defense.

they are the Faiders! As long as those things stay in place we will have a chance at the division. Or, at the very least be able to stay close. Can you imagine what a good coach could have been doing with the Dolts over the past 5 yrs with their talent? Thank you N. Turner!

I used to say the same thing about Marc Wilson when he was QB'ing the Faiders. I always felt
he was “our” 12th man and hoped against hope the Faiders would never get rid of him. Always felt we had a chance as long as he was playing. Long-Live-Norv!

Also, not much has been said about our Rookie CB Harris but
the dude is showing up and playing well. I love his attitude, he’s fearless and plays like a vet, confidence-wise, I have good feelings re: him for the future. Anyone else feeling the Harrislove?

Yeah, that was stupid but at least he can
play the “rookie” card on that one. As long as he doesn’t repeat it all is forgiven!

I agree, other than the out of bounds thing, he's played really well
I think overall he’s a total keeper, a real find. Looks much better than Wilhite as a FA pickup.
Although his interception celebration needs some coordination. (LOL)

… Yeah, I’m sure that was it. Heh heh. Talk about tempering someone’s excitement/ego.
I hope to see more of the former (the interception part). And I imagine he’ll pay a bit more attention to the latter.

He sure beats the hell out of Moreno...
There for a while I thought KNowshon got hurt early? He was just nonexistent…
at this point, Ball has outproduced him. yds, ypc, 1st downs, etc
KMs only redeeming quality at this point is his receiving ability.
..We're 3-13 till we're not!
They say the cool is all over me..
To be fair KnowMo didn't have many opps at all yesterday
with McGahee running so tremendously. Moreno had just a few carries and a couple of short pass receptions. It’s hard to get time when the guy ahead of you has been running so well and no doubt about it, Willis is much better at going straight ahead getting the tough yards, one cut and run, than KnowMo, who still suttersteps too much. But he’s still quick and capable and a good option as an outlet/dump/screen pass guy as well as change of pace back. Wouldn’t count him out fully but again with mcGahee running like gangbusters, I’m sure Broncos are ok with situation.

Strong 4th quarters
Playing Tebow at qb has the opponent’s fat linemen running twice as long as they are used to during games, which will always lead to strong games finishes by the Broncos, because their offense will be increasingly more used to playing longer, Tebow-extended plays.
Having Tebow at qb will ultimately be a similar advantage as the thin air during home games.
Fun game to watch, and I am really glad to see the coaches williams to tweak the game plan to their advantage.

He’s just feeling butt hurt that Denver won and Tebow played well. Gotta sulk and pout.
Tim Tebow's career record is 3-3. He is the worst 1st round pick EVER!!!! He is embarrassing!!! Did I say that with enough conviction to get a job with ESPN?
Doesn’t sound like pouting to me. I’m a Tebow supporter. Tebow didn’t play well. He played adequate.
Ran the ball very well. Threw a great pass to Decker on a TD and found Royal on a broken coverage. Other than that it wasn’t great.
If he can run it like that we could be hard to stop.

Dude had 38 yards in a half vs San Diego. 59 vs Miami and 63 vs Detroit. When does he not run like that?
Tim played well, we scored a lot of points (the entire point of offense), the Raiders had all kinds of issues trying to figure out the option-read and it opened up huge running lanes for McGahee to exploit. Be happy. It actually was great. Really great.
We’ll win almost every game this season if we score 38 points per game.
Tim Tebow's career record is 3-3. He is the worst 1st round pick EVER!!!! He is embarrassing!!! Did I say that with enough conviction to get a job with ESPN?
Well he usually runs well, but there is a difference besides designed runs and scrambling because he can’t find the open receivers. I just tend to think they will adjust to the zone read and he has to get better in the passing game.

If we RUN that option zone read well, it will open up passing lanes. You’ll see. In fact, you did yesterday several times. Royal didn’t get open because of a great route, he got open because their D was having all kind of issues defending our running game.

I'm a statistician
but as someone who watches lots of games on DVR, I can say statistics only tell half of the story. For instance, in the Buccaneers/Saints game this week, Josh Freeman threw for 281 yards and no interceptions but it is apparent to me, he was ineffective. Tebow may not have had sexy stats but he was irrefutably effective

Not hating
just saying the facts
Truth is it was the right decision to take the chances at the endzone. How is that not the right decision? The only way you second guess it is if you don’t have a QB who is good at passing which is needed to get into the end zone in that situation.
A baseball park is the one place where a man's wife doesn't mind his getting excited over somebody else's curves

Or you have two tackles that are struggling and the ref is calling holding often and your kicker is having a series of bad games and the other team knows your throwing into the endzone and there is only 17 seconds left.
You can come up with better excuses. Just try harder.
Tim Tebow's career record is 3-3. He is the worst 1st round pick EVER!!!! He is embarrassing!!! Did I say that with enough conviction to get a job with ESPN?
So you are gonna pass up the opportunity for more points because your Tackles are struggling and your worried about penalties?
You are gonna change your gameplan based on the worry of penalties?
That is an absolutely horrible excuse for this argument. If you have opportunities at more points you take them and assume your kicker will make a closer field goal attempt.
I can’t believe I am arguing with you on this because in all football textbooks you take the opportunity to score more points.

17 seconds. Take the points. Even Fox said he made the wrong call.
So yes, I guess I’m on the same side of the argument as Fox himself.
I think you’re reading the wrong text books.

Yeah I guess everytime your inside the 20 under 20 seconds to go
you might as well kick on 1st down in case you fumble the first 3 snaps. Why even try to score 7 points?

No.
The kick was already good, making it a much more difficult call. I actually thought it was worth trying, and Tebow had nothing to do with the Broncos ending up on the wrong side of that decision.

I was in favor of taking the points off the board at the time b/c we weren’t moving the ball very well at that point.
Other than that, I’m with McG.

I think it was a good challenge to the team...
Who knows, maybe that’s what motivated them for their second half surge. I think taking the field goal would have been the call to make when trying to reduce margin of defeat on your resume. I think going for the touchdown actually showed that Fox cares about the team’s pride.

Lotta good stuff today! (of course there always is after a win ;)
I really dig the McGahee article from the DP. At the end, about how he’s adopted the Salute, and gave it to the fans in the Black Hole….
After his second touchdown run, McGahee took a knee and saluted toward the fans in the Black Hole, the notorious section of seats behind the south end zone.
Fans responded by tossing plastic beer bottles and half-full paper cups.
“It’s all right. They don’t like me, and that’s OK,” McGahee said, laughing.
That’s OK?! That’s G-rrrrreat! Just like Frosted Flakes…. Actually even better. =D
