Hello, MHR.  I know it's early in the week, but my internet is liable to disappear by this time tomorrow (more on that later) so I'll get this up early.  Meanwhile, congratulations to the Broncos on their stunning and delicious win at the hands of the Raiders.

McCoy, Tebow, McGahee, and the Zone Read - Mile High Report

Good stuff today Tim!

Thanks for the Horse Tracks!

I can see myself years from now saying something like… ‘one day I was looking through Horse Tracks….’ and someone’ll be like ‘looking through what?’

They’re just so common to me, and I don’t, not even for a second, take them for granted. Greatly appreciated Tim.

That's why you should write a Journal

personal histories are the future’s link to us, write about the Broncos’ successes as from now on, they will exceed the amount of disappointments, I honestly believe this!

Great advice!

And I definitely don’t disagree with the belief either! That makes at least two of Us. Though I know there are plenty more.

As always, thanks Tim.

I’ve read, on several outside article comment sections —-it seems many are not happy with John Elway right now. This is only one of them:

“Broncos had much needed total team effort Sunday against Raiders. Everything seemed to click. Elway’s public response however, demonstrates some unsettling, negative attitudes towards Tebow that bears further watching.

There is enough of a continuous, clear track record on Elway’s public statements to seriously question his objectivity regarding Tebow as a player. Elway’s latest comment following the Raider game clearly downplayed Tebow’s performance, and notified the sport’s world that Tebow was still a game away from being benched!
What kind of a negative message does this send to the fans, team, coaches and Tebow?

It's so unsettling.

Yesterday was the team’s 1st “Victory Monday” of the season and they got the day off. And Tim was right there on his day off (along with other players – he was just the only one mentioned by name in the article) watching film and studying in an attempt to get better. I guess I just can’t understand the angle of his comments sometimes. The point of publicly letting the entire sports world know that plans were in place to pull your 3-game starter if he performed like a 3-game starter (or worse) was what? Keep that kinda noise inside the Broncos’ house. There’s absolutely no reason outside people needed to know that so they can use it against Tim or put even more pressure on a kid who’s fighting for his job as it is.

I would like it so much more if he just came out and explicitly voiced his distaste with Tim in whatever it may be than these subtle negative comments.

by iBleedorangeandblue on Nov 8, 2011 9:49 AM MST up reply actions

Elway was honest.

I agree with him that Tebow’s improved in his throwing, BUT it must get better if this team is going to compete. God, why can’t people be intellectually honest with themselves. Look at reality people! Tebow is improving bit by bit, BUT he has to get better in order to compete consistently. Oh my God, I am such a HATER! Sheessh…..

PS I’m not targeting you personally Boiler, just lamenting in general. lol

I have no issue with Elway's comment either.

Maybe he would have been better off not including the “he’s week to week” comment. That probably didn’t need to be aired (even though that is true too).

Overall, for a QB with 3 starts this year and only 6 in his career, I think Tebow is doing as well as most QB’s with that experience level…meaning the performance needs to get better.

Elway could have said “Tim is improving, but LIKE ALL YOUNG QB’s, he needs to improve”.

by FresnoKevin on Nov 8, 2011 12:30 PM MST up reply actions

Well

I think Tebow did spectacularly, but I agree with Elway in the regard that at my job, I need to give a full effort to be true to my company and myself. Perhaps the 1-game incentive methodology does work for Tebow between the ears which causes him to prepare more and play better. I won’t look at a negative angle here, hopefully that helped.

Greg Bishop's story in the NY Times reminds me of just how unimaginative so many of the

writers today are. Just a total rehash of old material re: Tebow, his faith and football. It appears that commentators still don’t get it about many of the athletes and their faith in Jesus. I don’t know how many times guys have to say that they are not giving thanks to God for giving them victory over the other team but rather, are simply giving thanks to God for their ability to compete…big difference. Rich Gannon reflects the “don’t get it crowd” when he states that there should be a separation between Tebow the football player and Tebow the Christian athlete, the problem is that Tebow see’s no such distinction and would totally disagree with Gannon’s view of that. I agree with Tebow, and other Christian athletes that if your faith in God is real it cannot be segregated as just another department in your life but is what all aspects of your life are driven by. There can be no separation if it’s a real faith. So when Tebow is giving thanks to God for being able to play football he does it when they lose as well as when they win. After all, God is sovereign over all and present in all circumstances. To expect Tebow to not be demonstrative about his faith would be expecting him to place his primary belief at times in line behind popular culture and it’s expectations of what he should say and how he should behave and when he should say things. I think Tebow is more excited about and more dependent upon Jesus Christ than he is in the NFL. I can live with that and admire that kind of conviction.

Another reason why politics isn't worth my time anymore.

SCREW politics

my employer makes me write political articles because an election year is coming up but I hate the process. All politicians are scumbags, Mitt Romney included. Yes, I am throwing one of my own under the bus, they don’t care about the American public, they care about enhancing THEIR profile, THEIR lives, not OURS and US, talk about something that is poison in the locker room or anywhere else… smh

Please Brad, don't fall into that "all politicians are scumbags"

I’m being complimentary when I say that gross exageration is beneath you.

Speaking as one of those Godless European atheists Fox News warns you about I agree with you.

If one belives one’s life is driven by a deity then it does not seem unreasonable for that person to acknowledge that every now and again. As you say so long as it does not cross the line from giving thanks for playing football to giving thanks for victory over Team XYZ….

As an atheist Tebow’s faith doesn’t bother me in the slightest. I don’t demand that my Bronco players exhibit outstanding morals at all times in order for me to cheer them on, but I would feel uncomfortable supporting a team full of players with say multiple DUI/animal cruelty convictions, or sexual assault allegations either (for example) simply because they are wearing the Denver uniform.

So to me Tebow’s example as a human being is refreshing and I like it. It’s nice to get behind a great kid who treats everyone around him with respect and who makes an effort to look after those less fortunate than him. My only source of disagreement would be my belief that the Tebows of this world are just as capable of behaving in a good just and humanitarian manner without the need for faith in the first place. But that is a debate for somewhere else.

Religion vs sports? Who cares?

I have my faith just like Tim Tebow and I think he wears his pants just like I do…There is nothing wrong with being religious and being an athlete, there are far more religious people in the world than not, so why make an issue out of it? If you want to be agnostic or a nonbeliever so be it, that’s your choice in life, but don’t make me think just because Tim Tebow is a faithful follower of his Lord and savior Jesus Christ tha he can’t be competive in sports…That’s ridiculous.

In addition, there are hundreds of athletes at every level who do the same thing.

Pictures all over the internet of large groups of football players on a knee en mass, both before and after games. (the one I recently and accidentally saw was maybe twenty Packers and_______ (couldn’t tell from the other team’s helmets) That is just one example.
Did the NYT do a negative article about them? Geesh.

Earth to Fox: Let Tebow play his own game.

by Boiler etc on Nov 8, 2011 4:58 PM MST up reply actions

Have you even read Bishop's article?

John Elway’s so called honest assessment is biased against Tebow, compared to Bishop. There’s nothing written as an editorial by him, it’s all just gathering what others have said, and
an assessment of the state of Tebow as a football player, and as a Christian, and the polarization of people’s opinion toward him, and why that has happened. And it isn’t political, as mentioned somewhere, above. Not at all. How does a guy writing for the Times about the Tebow debate automatically make this political? It isn’t, political and it isn’t a negative article, unless you choose to view it that way. Actually, Bishop’s completely neutral. Many choose not to properly read what’s going on, and just assume it’s a bad thing, which is unfair, at best. Showing ignorance, at worst. Rich Gannon made some comments that might cause debate, but the truth is, he gave an opinion and there are many others…Kurt Warner, Tim Hasslebeck, Howell Scott and Lincoln Blumell who have a say in this article. Gannon’s been cherry picked to fit the narrative of a post, most of Bishop’s article quotes pro Christians, and Greg Bishop’s article isn’t some NYT negative article.
