Rolando McClain Arrested

The Broncos' chances of making the playoffs have increased. Apparently Rolando McClain felt the need to fire a gun next to someone's head during a barfight in Alabama and has been arrested. Based the Plaxico Burress incident, I wouldn't be surprised if Goodell suspends McClain for at least a couple games, if not the rest of the season. The implication for the Raiders and the Broncos playoff chances could be huge. I would consider McClain to be one of the leaders of Oakland's defense and this could be a big blow to Oakland's chances of fending off the Broncos for the AFC West division title.

gcamp, the gun rules in Alabama are a lot more lienient then in New York...

But yes this is great news for the Broncos’ playoff hopes…Tell me, what was Rolando doing in a bar in Alabama during a practice week?

+1 and +2

New York don’t play. They’ve got some really strict gun laws. Dude shot himself and was fixing to lose mucho money from suspensions. No doubt he was pretty embarrassed and likely learned his lesson. Still, all that jail time.

And then yes, what the front door was he doing at a bar in Alabama during a practice week?

DROY is almost an insult to the great Von Miller at this point. Methinks he deserves a back-door pass to the next Victoria's Secret Fashion Show for a chance to sack an Angel - Miranda Kerr, maybe.

He was there for the funeral of his grandfather.

Don’t get too excited about this arrest, McClain has already been a disappointment for Oakland and has never looked like the kind of MLB they were expecting when they took him in the top 10.

This is a bullet Denver was fortunate to avoid. I was hoping he’d slide to us in 2010, but I’m glad he didn’t because he is just another over drafted 1st round bust for the Raiders.

Tim Tebow is Denver's 2012 starting QB. I'm not even kind of sorry that offends some of you.

by McGeorge on Dec 2, 2011 7:27 AM MST up reply actions

I agree he isn't a top 10 draft talent to this point

But I am also pretty sure he is a better player than Darryl Blackstock who would replace him. The main factor is whether Goodell takes disciplinary action now or waits till after the trial which would likely affect next season. Goodell suspended Big Ben prior to his trial but he was also a repeat offender where McClain is not. I also wasn’t saying McClain will get a similar sentences to Plaxico as I would be surprised if he gets more than probation based on the misdemeanor charges. I simply think that Goodell will want to send a message to NFL players being careless with firearms after all the publicity Plaxico got.

Same Boat...

I was disappointed when the Raiders took him before we could, but after seeing him in action and considering this incident, I’m glad we ended up not getting him.

Why was he in Alabama?

Remember when we really wanted the Broncos to draft him.

Seems like we dodged a bullet.

I am a fan of a team in the NBA, MLB, NHL, and NFL. I haven't seen the playoffs since April 28th, 2008 (1st round exit by raps). I haven't seen playoffs past the 1st round since January 26th, 2006. Stop and think about how insane it is. And depressing.

by Eddie.Teach on Dec 1, 2011 5:36 PM MST reply actions

Why?

We took KNowshon Moreno. I’d rather have Rolando right now. He was the “heart and soul of the Alabama defense”. It would have saved us the third-round pick (Nate Irving) and also given us a better MLB than Mays.

DROY is almost an insult to the great Von Miller at this point. Methinks he deserves a back-door pass to the next Victoria's Secret Fashion Show for a chance to sack an Angel - Miranda Kerr, maybe.

by Rodney A on Dec 1, 2011 10:31 PM MST up reply actions

Why?

Have you researched McClain? This was not his first brush with the law in Alabama, but, then again, how many high-character guys do the Raiders have?

And if it turns out that McClain fired that gun, and that it actually wasn’t in self-defense, then there is absolutely no legal or moral defense for that, especially from a guy that stands 6’-3" tall and weighs over 250 pounds. No defense, whatsoever.

I’ve been in the military, and I’m all about the 2nd Amendment and protecting my home, but I also know that, as a citizen, you only pull a gun as the last resort, when it’s life or death. That’s it. Period.

There are still a lot of 'ifs' out there

All I know for sure right now is that McClain is a much better MLB than Mays and that Moreno has never really shown up.

All the ‘ifs’ in your comment paint a worst case scenario. Chances are, he won’t be suspended this year. Chances are, whatever his suspension next year, it won’t be more than four games.

Rolando may have gotten in trouble in Alabama before, but it’s fairly irrelevant to saying we would have been better off drafting him than Moreno. McClain hasn’t been an issue in the locker room or on the field. He’s not one of those guys. He’s a leader and a team guy.

DROY is almost an insult to the great Von Miller at this point. Methinks he deserves a back-door pass to the next Victoria's Secret Fashion Show for a chance to sack an Angel - Miranda Kerr, maybe.

by Rodney A on Dec 2, 2011 7:42 AM MST up reply actions

There might be a lot of "ifs" out there, but I only used one "if" in my response.

Now, with your second paragraph here, you put the word “ifs” back on me a second time. Why? What made you take what I had clearly written once, and turn it into something more than it was?

Look, you may still be of the opinion that the Broncos would be better off with McClain than Moreno (even though you now know we’re talking about different drafts), and that he’s a better MLB than Mays, but that’s all in the past. I wanted the Broncos to draft Steven Jackson in 2004. I wanted Orakpo, I wanted Clay Matthews. I wanted two DTs in the second round of the 2011 NFL Draft.

But life goes on. Water under the bridge. No used crying over spilled milk. It is what it is. Worry only about what is under our control. It’s still your opinion, though? Fine. You’ve now got mine.

And as Tebow might say, G-d bless, and I appreciate that.

by 9798 on Dec 2, 2011 2:39 PM MST up reply actions

Sloppy commenting on my part

Moreno and McClain weren’t drafted in the same year. And you only used one “if”.

However, I think my point still stands. That being, we don’t know much of anything for sure. It’s doubtful that he gets suspended this year. This is his first trouble since joining the league. And he’s a leader on the Raiders dfense and is a good linebacker.

I’d still welcome him to the Broncos at this point. We’d be a better team with him. If it turns out he’s guilty, then maybe I’d re-asses.

In this country "a man is innocent until proven guilty," so I give you that.

On the other hand:

“If it looks like a duck, swims like a duck, and quacks like a duck, then it probably is Brandon Marshall.”

Besides, we should always try to find the higher character type to play any of our positions. Players like Todd Sauerbrun, Travis Henry, Maurice Clarett, and Perrish Cox just don’t seem to last long on this team.

Wrong draft

We took Moreno in 2009. Rolando was a 2010 pick (Raiders took Heyward in ’09) We ended up trading picks and ultimately got Tebow and DT in the 1st of ’10.

this is frickin disgusting

what ever happened to “professionals” that TRIED to be a role model. Well, he’s succeeded, he’s just a pathetic one. A pathetic role model, a pathetic citizen and a pathetic human being. This isn’t just disgusting, it’s an insult to everyone who actually does try.

Nothing ticks me off more than to see stuff like this…

Rolando McClain – I salute you; you piece of trash!

You get what you pay for NFL and NFL fans

keep going to the hood to get players and you will keep getting hood rats. The NCAA and NFL really need to start expanding their horizons in order to find good football players that are also decent people.

The NFL needs more guys like Tim Tebow and more Polynesians to avoid becoming the NBA. It’s a shame, it’s really getting hard to be a fan of todays NFL and it’s players. .

+ 100 for Polynesians!

" I'm blessed to be part of a team with very unselfish players who don't care about statistics, they just care about winning" - Tebow owning Michael Irvin when Irvin asked him "what do you say to your receivers after you throw a ball in the dirt and miss them".
