Opinion of a Packer Fan

I would probably get banned from Acme Packers for speaking such blasphemy out loud, so I will say it here. John Fox deserves to be coack of the year this year. It does not matter if he finishes 8-8 and missed the playoffs or 11-5 and wins the super bowl. John Fox has some more with his players than anyone else has in the last 25 years.

Let's be brutally honest. If you look at the roster, you can see how they were 1-4, and looking at them at 8-5 just makes you scratch your head. Other teams, such as the Chargers, make you scratch your head also, but more becuase they're always underperforming with their team talent whereas the Broncos are defying gravity, soaring much higher than only one mile up.

Fox however, has given his team hope, tempered with grit and determination. He had to completely revamp his offense to suit the one guy who has the will power, mental toughness, and skill to propel his team. Most importantly, he changed his offense on the fly, like a bird in flight, immediately and innately adjusting to danger and reacting accordingly.

He could be like Lovie Smith / Mike Martz, who insist that if you run into a brick wall enough times, eventually you will break through. No, Fox saw the wall, went to the hardware store, bought some c4, and blew that son'bitch apart. He could be like the Colts, who threw in the towell when they found out their QB was out for a long time. But no, Fox has not done any of this. He has led his team from 1-4 to controlling their own fate. They have beaten the teams that others in their Division have not been able to beat, and are looking into the eyes of the playoffs.

Some will say that Harbaugh deserves the Coach of the year becuase he changed the culture of San Francisco. Others will say that Mike McCarthy deserves it becuase of his teams perfect run of 13-0 so far (hopefully to be 19-0). Yet still others will say that Kubiak in Houston will deserve it with the first playoff appearance for his franchise despite all those injuries.

I say it goes to John Fox. The three other teams all have very good talent. Green Bay has the best talent in the league. San Francisco has just finally played to their potential, and Houston is benefitting from the absence of Peyton Manning. John Fox has done it with players on offense who would not start on the other three rosters. Yet his teams still score just enough to win the game.

So this is my vote for Fox for NFL Coach of the Year. Pity I have no say.
