Tebow: Best QB of 2010 draft

So far, I don't think there is any question about it. QB's selected and brief summary of career to date (Round and #):

Rd 1 Pick 1 Sam Bradford - anyone want to trade? SB's QBR is 74.2, completion % 57.6 TD/INT ratio 24/21 - not a bust, but a winnign QB? Not so much so far

Rd 1 Pick 25 Tim Tebow - QBR 83.4, Completion % 48.9, TD/INT 16/5 - He's the only QB of the draft who runs, so include 744 Rushing yards, 9TDs, and 4 Fumbles

Star-divide

Rd 2 Pick 48 - Jimmy Clausen - HA! QBR 58.4, Completion % 52.5 TD/INT 3/9 - I think we can move on - except to say this guy was considered a steal of the draft by many pundits. He was once projected to be a top 10 pick, remember.

Rd 3 Pick 85 - Colt McCoy - Awesome name! QBR 74.5, Completion % 58.4, TD/INT 20/20

Other than these guys, no other QB has really played. Maybe there's a new Tom Brady stashed on a bench somewhere, but 2 years into it, it's pretty clear the Broncos snagged the best QB of the 2010 draft. Pretty cool, guys.

At this point it's a no brainer.

Especially after watching Bradford last night and factoring in the fact that he seems to be a tad bit fragile for the NFL game. McCoy looks like he’s on track to be a very average QB in the NFL and I seriously doubt that Claussen will ever be a starter.

Does Bradford get any slack

for having to carry McD’s dead weight (and people complain about McCoy’s play calling…)? And now Lloyd, too. I noticed when the game was on the line and Lloyd needed a catch… nope. When it was garbage time, Lloyd was skying like Spiderman! Nice stat line, except for the big L.

Decker and Thomas may be dropping a few early, but when the game is in the balance, they are making plays. That coupled with the upside… another good move by EFX!

While I don't share your enthusiasm over LLoyd being gone

I think it was the right move. More due to his attitude than game, though. As far as skill goes I"d LOVE to have Lloyd still playing for us rather than a 5th rounder.

Go-Go Gadget Tebow!!!!

Lloyd...

That dude could ball though. Also, Lloyd made plenty of non garbage time catches when given the chance. Obviously when we were down we took shots down the field… and what is he supposed to do… not catch it because we are getting our butts kicked?

Only thing that bothered me about Lloyd was that everyone doubted his ability time and time again, until the Broncos gave him a chance and he showed his worth. Then when everyone doubted Tim’s ability, he never gave Tim a chance.

Notice not a word on Josh McDaniels

is it possible that he could actually get another shot at a HC job….in KC?

Lloyd=stat whore. He’d rather be looking good and losing then looking bad and winning.

I hope so.

I wanted Haley to stay there and melt down in an epic way next year! I guess if I have to settle for McD doing it, so be it. Nothing I have seen from the Rams indicates that he has changed one iota. We might get to see him mess with both Cassel and Orton’s heads! Awesome!

My real fear is that someone like Fisher will end up in SD or KC. Then we will have to go back to quiet respect for a quality division rival. Unfortunately, we have been on the carousel of the crazy the last couple years too, but it has been nice to know that none of these teams in the AFC West are real contenders.

by Da Bum on Dec 13, 2011 5:44 PM MST up reply actions

I would rather not see his face ever again

I had to close my eyes every time they mentioned his name Monday Night out of fear. Unfortunately for the Broncos and the rest of the West, K.C. has the most talented offense in the division so they could do damage if properly coached by a guy like Fish (a.k.a. the Piano Man).

Here are some numbers from ‘footballguys’ on Sammy this year.

After throwing 17 touchdown passes and 10 interceptions in his first 12 career starts in the NFL, St. Louis Rams QB Sam Bradford has thrown seven touchdown passes and 11 interceptions since. Bradford completed 60.6 percent of his passes in his first 12 starts, but since then he has completed just 54.9 percent of his pass attempts.

They went on to say.
Bradford doesn’t look as good this year as he did during his rookie season last year. Part of it is the injuries to the offensive line and WR corps. The other part of it is the lack of creativity coming from OC Josh McDaniels.

Victory is sweet, even deep in the cheap seats.

by KoloradoKaos on Dec 14, 2011 7:38 AM MST up reply actions

This made me laugh
The other part of it is the lack of creativity coming from OC Josh McDaniels.

Lack of creativity has never been Josh’s problem that I remember. He was creative to a fault, to the point where the plays were not fundamentally sound anymore. On a veteran team with outstanding veteran leadership (ala Tom Brady), you can get away with a little pop and sizzle. You can expect the vet not to put the team in a bad place with bad decisions. On a team made up primarily of young guys or average talent… you need fundamentally sound.

I mean come on! How many stupid plays are you going to run inside the 2 yard line. Why try to trick them? Why hide your best player? Why use a guy that has an ankle injury to stuff it in from basically a standstill? It was the same kind of stuff that we tried to do in Denver all the time, and it leads to the same results. One day Bradford may be a Tom Brady caliber of player, but he definitely is not there today, so why put in plays that require that level of consistency to execute? Stupid, stupid, stupid.

by Da Bum on Dec 14, 2011 8:57 AM MST up reply actions

Some would say not, Stupid, stupid, stupid

just so darn smart that ‘we’ mortals cannot even comprehend his genius.

Sam Bradford was not only an above average QB in 2010 he was the best rookie QB in the league and was mentioned in the same breath as Manning and Ryan as rookies because of it. Oh and btw he was the 2010 NFL rookie of the year.

Some more interesting tid bits on Sam I Am…… so bummed that Josh McDaniels is my new OC.

Victory is sweet, even deep in the cheap seats.

Not saying much...

Other than Bradford, who had a pretty good rookie campaign before the injuries and McD’s offense came to town, the other 2 were not expected to do very much out of the gate as is. That is why they lasted until the rounds that they did. Every single team in the league (except maybe the Bears and Cowboys) passed on those guys at least once… some of them 2 or 3 times. I would have been more shocked or pissed if one of them out played Tim, rather than the other way around.

Weak QB Draft Class

This Draft was considered a weak one for QB’s. That’s why Bradford returned to OK so he could be the top pick in this Draft. Even when he got injured, he was the top pick. Tells you how bad the talent level at QB was in this draft…

by D1g1tal J1m on Dec 13, 2011 1:36 PM MST reply actions

I feel so bad for Bradford and McCoy.

Both have obvious talent. McCoy is stuck on a bad bears team and will probably not be their starter next year.

Bradford did very well for a rookie last year and then had to start running a McD offense. Poor guy. I hope they bring in someone better to help him develop next year.

But yes, you are right. We definitely got the best QB of the draft. Easily.

I think you meant the Browns...

But I totally agree. McCoy is on a sad Browns team, and their major weapon in Hillis has been troublesome at best all year. I never thought too much of him coming out of Texas, but he has been serviceable.

Bradford showed flashes of talent, but it turns out that McD’s gameplan is a black hole for offensive units. He seriously needs to be demoted to offensive assistant or QB coach; he does not work outside of the Belichick umbrella.

I used to feel bad for QB's drafted to bad teams

Heck, last season Tebow looked like he was stuck on a “bad team”. Look at what only one year turnaround did for the entire team, though.

I guess my point is put the right player in the right situation, and good things will happen.

Jury is still out on Bradford, I think

He has talent, but he was struggling in the latter half of last year too. They started asking more of him and he was not ready. That is how most young QBs are… not ready. Sam’s WRs were also dropping sure passes early in the season (sound familiar) McD being McD certainly is not helping. Did you see how many redzone plays they ran and sucked at. Stupid stuff (like a foolish WC play and foolish QB sneak and bootleg with a gimpy QB – McD at his finest). Bradford missing the off season did as much to stunt his growth as it did TTs. Two more years should give a pretty good body of work to evaluate the Sam Bradford story.

by Da Bum on Dec 13, 2011 5:51 PM MST up reply actions

Interesting comparisons

As a college football fan, I have been watching these four young men for a few years already. While my bias is obvious (I am a Gator), I do believe that Bradford and McCoy are currently just going through a sophomore slump. They both are on mediocre teams where they are asked to shoulder a lot of the responsibility. Given some time (and perhaps some added talent around them), I think they could both be starting QBs for years to come.

Don't forget Dan Lefebvre, Mike Kafka and Tony Pike

Mike Mayock said he had Kafka rated a head of Tebow. Of course Kafka’s stuck as 3rd string in Philadelphia so we may never know about Kafka.

Sam Bradford was clearly a bit of a fluke last year beating up on weak NFC and AFC West teams-sadly us included.

That's not all...

Tebow’s QBR is higher than any qualifying quarterback in their first THREE years of their career. Only two Quarterbacks with 5 or less years of experience have higher QBR’s.

Small sample size – yada yada. :-)

Cinncinati's Andy Dalton should give Tebow a run for his money...

But, we all saw how that organization basically squandered away Carson Palmers chances of greatness. You can have all the tools you need in the tool box, but if you don’t know how to use them they won’t do you any good…

bradford was over rated when TT out threw him in college.

The Gators were considered the underdogs.. just like the Broncos are this week.

The Gators were actually 3-point favorites over the Sooners

The underdog role is probably remembered from the 2006 BCS Championship against Ohio State (Tebow was used for short yardage situations and mop-up duty in the 2nd half).

It sure seemed like they had them pegged as underdogs..from what I recall

but I wasn’t using the numbers, just how they characterized the Oklahoma offense, Sam’s numbers, and worrying if the Gators had enough going on to keep up..

Laughable..I know. I would really like to see them open this offense up, but we need some
receivers.. bad. They are doing quite well as it is..but it could fly with some sticky fingers out there .
