Denver Broncos Sign S Kyle McCarthy To Roster, Release FB Quinn Johnson
The Denver Broncos on Saturday signed safety Kyle McCarthy to the active roster from their practice squad and waived fullback Quinn Johnson, it was announced.
McCarthy (6-foot-1, 205 pounds) is a second-year player who has seen action in 10 career games, including two contests for the Broncos this season. He was signed by Denver as a college free agent from the University of Notre Dame in 2010.
He will wear jersey No. 34 for the Broncos.
This move leaves to question the availability of Brian Dawkins on Sunday. Dawkins left the game against the Bears last week with a neck injury and was limited all week in practice.

This kinda sucks to me
I can’t lie, I was sort of fantasizing about the prospects of a 260 lb. FB. But oh well… McCarthy though? IDK about you guys, but other than pre-season, this dude has looked like a gimp in gameplay. That whiff in the Vike’s game was VERY reminiscent of Marquand Manuel, Marlon McCree, and Herana-Daze Jones era football, circa. 2007.

I think they are low on bodies that know the defense
And Johnson can’t play DB. At 260 lbs he’d be a heck of a hitter though. :)

Spence is perfectly fine as a fullback!
of course I’m biased…

The way Beadles has been pulling out right lately he does a pretty good job of making a lane...
I think we’ll see a lot more of that as the season wears on. Beadles, Larsen and McGahee following…Bam!

The eye test says
Our run game is better when we have the fullback in there. Does any of that stat guys know if this is right?

I trust my eyes and ignorance is bliss. Where’s metalman and Mike Clark? I need me a La-La land passport!

McCarthy is better on STs than on defense, but just in case they need him (last man up, not next man!)...

Dawkins? I think this more likely calls into question the health of Bruton.
Tim Tebow is Denver's 2012 starting QB. I'm not even kind of sorry that offends some of you (including you Elway).
Oops...Sorry McGeorge I didn't see your post.

I think this move has more to David Bruton's availability...Not BDawk...
Kyle has been pretty good on Special Teams and not so much in defensive play.

yea
dunno why no one is reacting to this, Dawk will prob play and this is the real concern
We're gonna need as many DB's as we can keep on the roster this week
McCarthy is a good blitzer and I doubt New England has much film on him. His covering skills are concerning though, I don’t want to see him matched up with Gronk, thats for sure.

At least we're not resorting to wide receivers like the Pats...Man, they are beat up in the secondary.

Am I the only who is extremely nervous about this game? While the game doesn’t make or break the season, I’m worried about it. We’re playing a playoff team, so it will help show whether or not the Broncos can be a threat in the playoffs. If they start off slow, they’re screwed. I just have the same feeling that I had before the Lions game, and we all know how that turned out. I think we’ll either get blown out, or we’ll find a way to win. Hopefully it’s the latter. Here’s to another Mile High Miracle! GO BRONCOS!

Sure, I'm nervous-
But that means I have not given up the game as lost….no nervousness if there is no chance.
I also am just having a blast with a season I initially viewed as best used for rebuilding and assessment of players. This game is not make or break for the playoffs, and even if (heaven forbid) we missed the playoffs, I would be looking at it as the accumulation of injuries and fatigue over a long season for a talented but thin team. I still would have had a heck of a time and be very proud of the team’s effort.
But…I agree…….if we win, I am going to have to seriously assess my expectations about the playoffs and just how deep we can go.
Quinn Johnson
probably would have been just as effective as McCarthy has been…No offense to the guy, but he needs to seriously step up his game.
Considering how much our safeties have struggled this season
McCarthy isn’t really that big of a drop off, and with the injuries to our secondary, this is a smart move, especially considering that Johnson would never have seen the field.
I am a bear of very little brains and big words bother me.
Speaking of injuries, Pats have their own issues
http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2011/12/17/deion-branch-will-miss-game-against-broncos/
Without Branch, Broncos need to key even more guys on Gronk and Welker, and not let Ochocinco wake up. They are also missing key players on defense (a D that’s already not that good). This really could be a high scoring game.
There's no need to fear, Underdog is here! / Broncos/Dodgers/Lakers fan in Niners/Raiders/Giants/Warriors country, and damned proud of it.
in our favor in fact lol
Q: What will happen if Tom Brady can't make the delivery of his first child with Gisele Bundchen? A: Bill Belichick will tape it!
Let's take no prisoners and send the Pats a message!

Aw...we must've hurt that Panther fan's feelings the other day
He’s over on the Patriots blog talking some major crap about Tebow. Pretty sad if you ask me…

I suspect ZacMan will be pleased by this move...)
I hope McCarthy can find a way to stick on this team.
What would Blackie Lawless do?
Whatever
I don’t care if we put the water boys on the field as long as we come away with a win, the defense should be fine and put brady and co. In some what of a balancing act, here’s to hoping mccoy, fox and tebow studied up onto how to expose their weaknesses and run up the score from the kickoff, GO BRONCOS!!
